Valheim Kall Fimbulbringer: How to Summon and Beat Him

How to find, summon and beat Kall Fimbulbringer, the Deep North final boss of Valheim 1.0: the Mörkhalla runestone, 3 Malicious Blood in the Strange Bowl, a tested loadout, and every attack in his three phases.

Adapted from Valheim FINAL BOSS Guide! Everything To Know to Defeat Deep North Boss!

🎯 The core idea

Kall Fimbulbringer is the Valheim final boss and last boss, added with the Deep North in 1.0. You summon him with 3 Malicious Blood in the Strange Bowl at the Aesir Passage. The fight has three phases: Kall alone, then spectral versions of the seven Forsaken, then Kall again with deadlier attacks. Bring lightning damage, a real shield, fire and frost meads and full food, then treat it as a marathon, not a sprint.

  • free costs nothing
  • cheap small cost
  • setup needs preparation
  • grind pays off slowly
  • skip the thing to stop doing

A note on sources before you start. The Valheim wiki on Fandom has no page for Kall Fimbulbringer yet, and none for Malicious Blood, the Strange Bowl or the Aesir Passage. Its Deep North page is still marked unfinished. So the attack names, phases and tactics below come from 04AM's 1.0 video (premiered 18 September 2026) and what its footage shows on screen. Anything the wiki does cover (Forsaken powers, meads, Fader's health, the 1.0 patch notes) is checked against it. If you're not at the Deep North yet, the Valheim progression guide covers the steps that get you here.

Kall Fimbulbringer location: the bottom of Mörkhalla

setup Like every boss in Valheim, Kall is found through a runestone. His sits on the bottom floor of a Mörkhalla dungeon, the tall dark castles of the Deep North. You need an Intricate key to open a Mörkhalla gate, and the progression guide explains how to cast one in the Frost Foundry.

Work your way down to the lowest floor and interact with the red runestone. It marks the Aesir Passage on your map, which is where you fight him. The video's map shows the Aesir Passage pinned as its own marker in the far north, separate from the castles.

So the Kall Fimbulbringer location isn't random: clear a Mörkhalla, read the stone, sail or walk to the marker.

The Aesir Passage: drop a portal before anything else

cheap The Aesir Passage is a dark stone gateway with glowing red runes, standing in the snow. The first thing the video does here is place a portal right next to it. If you die, you come back through that portal to your body instead of making the whole Deep North trip again. That's the single cheapest thing you can do to make Kall less painful, and it costs a handful of Fine wood, Greydwarf eyes and Surtling cores.

Also set your bed or a second portal at a base where you can get Rested quickly. The wiki says Rested gives +50% health regeneration and +100% stamina regeneration, and the HUD in the video shows over 25 minutes of it at the start of the fight. With a fight this long, that matters.

How to summon Kall Fimbulbringer: Malicious Blood in the Strange Bowl

grind To summon Kall Fimbulbringer you offer 3 Valheim Malicious Blood in the Strange Bowl at the Aesir Passage. The footage shows the bowl's prompt clearly: "Strange Bowl, [1-8] Offer item". The wiki's 1.0 patch notes list Malicious Blood as a new item but say nothing about how it drops, so the source for this part is the video.

Per the video, you get exactly one Malicious Blood per Mörkhalla:

  1. Reach the bottom floor and destroy the crystal there.
  2. Survive the Jotun invasion that starts afterwards. The wiki's patch notes confirm a 1.0 event called "The Jotun have found you".
  3. Break the seal (another crystal) that appears. It drops one Malicious Blood.

Three dungeons, three bloods. The video also mentions a console command to spawn Malicious Blood if you've run out of castles. That's a dev command, and items it touches can be marked as cheated, so we don't recommend it.

Outside first, inside after. The creator explains that the first summon has to happen at the bowl outside the passage, because that's what lets you go in. Once Kall has died once, later summons use a bowl inside. The footage shows both bowls. He lost three bloods learning this, so don't repeat it.

Weapons: Thunderblood dagger, not Frostfire

setup The creator fights with a Thunderblood dagger, and the tooltip on screen reads (quality 2): 85 slash, 85 pierce and 50 lightning, plus "Damage increased per health missing: 0.2%". He calls lightning the best Deep North damage type for this fight, and the health-missing bonus means you hit harder every time Kall chips you.

Swords and other Thunderblood weapons also work. What he warns against is Frostfire: he says Kall is immune to most of its damage. Since the wiki has no Kall page and no resistance table, take that as the creator's finding rather than a confirmed number. It does fit the fight's frost theme, though, so don't bring your frost weapon as your only option.

No Kall Fimbulbringer weakness is documented yet, so lightning is simply the best damage type the video found, not a confirmed weak point.

A dagger isn't required. He picked it because he likes staying nimble and dodging, and he admits it's an unusual choice for a final boss.

Shield and armor: Nord shield and the Vanguard set

setup Bring a regular shield, not a buckler and not only a tower shield. The video uses a Nord shield (quality 3): 144 block armour, block force 60 and a 1.5x parry bonus. The point is to be able to just block the big hits instead of relying on perfect parries. In this frame he blocks a chain hit for 115.6 and takes only 2.7 damage.

For armor he wears the Vanguard set, which his HUD shows as an active set effect, along with Megingjord. He suggests the Protector set if you want more armor, and says the third Deep North set is for spellcasters.

skip He tells you to leave the Feather cape at home. The wiki confirms why: it makes you very weak (2x) to fire, and Kall's arena throws a lot of fire at you. Oddly, the Feather fall buff is still on his HUD in parts of phase 1 and 2, so if you do keep it, keep the Fire resistance barley wine up at all times.

Food and meads for the Valheim final boss

cheap The only consumables the creator uses are two meads, and he insists potions aren't needed solo or in a group:

  • Fire resistance barley wine: resistant vs fire, 10 minutes (wiki and tooltip agree).
  • Frost resistance mead: resistant vs frost, 10 minutes. The Deep North cold freezes you without frost protection.

His food is three Deep North dishes, one of each. The tooltips on screen read:

FoodHealthStaminaDurationHealing
Oat Milk3711025 min5 hp/tick
Seal Meat Soup1103730 min7 hp/tick
Meat in Bread11037(per video)7 hp/tick

That gets him to 281 health, which you can read on his health bar outside the passage. The wiki lists all three foods in the 1.0 patch notes but has no recipe pages yet. Per the video, Oat Milk uses oats and ice, Seal Meat Soup uses seal blubber, kale and ice, and Meat in Bread uses moose meat, kale, oat flour and lingonberries. (He says "meat and bread"; the game calls it Meat in Bread.)

Easier swap-ins he suggests: Seal Meat Soup, Kale Chips (just kale) and Smoked Moose Meat (moose meat and kale). His whole fight took about 8 minutes, so 25 to 30 minute foods last.

Best Forsaken power for Kall

free He didn't use a power for his kill, so you don't need one. If you want one, here's what each does in 1.0 according to the wiki, with his take:

PowerEffect (wiki)Use against Kall
Bonemass-25% physical damage, -100% block stamina, +5 stamina per blockHis top pick for survival. Pairs with the shield plan in phase 3
Eikthyr60% less stamina for running, jumping and swimmingHis personal favourite for a dodge-heavy build
Fader+100% adrenaline, 50% less stagger buildup, resistant vs fireStrong, the fire resistance stacks well with the arena
Yagluth+10% damage, resistant vs lightning, +25 FarmingBest pure damage pick
The Queen+100% eitr regen, -100% sneak stamina, resistant vs poisonMostly for spellcasters and the Bonemass aspect in phase 2

He says Yagluth gives "+10% on most things"; the wiki is more specific: +10% damage, lightning resistance and a Farming bonus. The power cooldown is shared, so pick one before you summon.

Kall Fimbulbringer phase 1: four chain attacks

free Phase 1 is where you learn him. Kall uses only four attacks, all built around his chains, and you get plenty of openings to hit back. The video puts his total health across all phases at over 52,000. We can't confirm that number on the wiki, but the wiki gives Fader 25,000, so if the video is right, Kall has more than twice the health of any earlier boss.

AttackWhat it does (per the video)How to avoid it
Chain SlamOverhead smash with one or both chains in a roughly 40° line, heavy damageStand very close to him; the slam struggles to hit you up close
Double SweepWide horizontal swing that covers much more groundRoll or strafe sideways
Chain RollHe freezes for a beat, then spins, damaging and knocking you backRoll away as soon as he stops moving
Chain RushA dash to close the gap on youStrafe sideways

Don't get greedy just because phase 1 feels easy. The point of this phase is to learn the tells you'll need again later.

Phase 2: the spectral Forsaken

free In phase 2 Kall leaves and you fight spectral "Aspects" of the earlier bosses. The health bars on screen name them, for example "Aspect of the Lightning Stag" (Eikthyr), "Aspect of the Living Forest" (the Elder) and "Aspect of the Writhing Dead" (Bonemass). The creator treats this as a breather: there's time to regenerate health and stamina between kills.

How it plays out in the video:

  1. Eikthyr comes first, alone, and is easy.
  2. The Elder and Bonemass spawn together. Whichever you kill first brings in the next boss, so from here on you always face two at once.
  3. His order: kill Bonemass first, because the poison is annoying to fight around. Moder is easy. Kill Yagluth fast, because his meteors can one-shot you. The Queen has low health and is easy to ignore. Fader is just as manageable.

The Queen's poison resistance helps with the Bonemass aspect, which is why she shows up in the powers table above.

Kall Fimbulbringer phase 3: what changes when he returns

setup Once every Forsaken aspect is down, Kall returns with a bigger health pool and more attacks. The creator calls this the hardest part of the fight. Chain Slam and Chain Roll stay, and new moves join them:

AttackWhat it does (per the video)How to handle it
Ground PunchSlams the floor several times; huge damage inside the radiusRun out of the radius immediately
Chain FlurryA dash into a flurry of hits; the deadliest move, can one-shot youHold your shield up and don't roll; rolling leaves you open
Spike RainSpikes fall across the arenaBack against the wall, shield up (next section)
Roots / TendrilsSummons roots that throw lightning orbsOne-shot them or ignore them; they despawn quickly

The Chain Flurry advice is the opposite of most bosses. Against this one move, a decent shield at a good upgrade level absorbs the hits, while a badly timed roll gets you killed.

Spike Rain: become a shield wall

free Some players keep running during Spike Rain. The creator recommends something else: run to the edge of the room, put your back against the wall and hold your shield up. The wall covers your back, the shield covers the front, and you take very little. The footage shows him doing exactly this against the arena's ice wall.

Kall sometimes uses Spike Rain while his tendrils are up, which is the moment the fight gets most dangerous. If both happen at once, wall first, tendrils after.

Tendrils and the lightning orbs

free The roots Kall summons in phase 3 show up with a "Tendril" health bar in the footage. They throw lightning orbs that hit hard, especially when you're already dodging another attack. The video says they die to about one hit, and they also despawn quickly on their own, so pick based on where you are: hit one if it's on your path, otherwise ignore them and focus on Kall.

Fight plan, the 1.0.16 arena fix and the reward

setup The creator's summary of how to beat Kall Fimbulbringer, solo or with friends: dodge his attacks, let your health regenerate, get a few hits in, repeat. With a Thunderblood weapon you'll lose some health on purpose, but don't let it drop low before phase 3.

Patch note: the video predates 1.0.16. It premiered on 18 September 2026. Patch 1.0.16 (25 September 2026) fixed "certain spawns during the Deep North boss fight" that could spawn outside the boss area, and fixed some of those spawns rendering incorrectly. If you read older reports of adds or Forsaken aspects appearing outside the arena, that was the bug, and it's gone on the current patch (1.0.20). 1.0.16 also fixed way too many enemies spawning during raids.

Kall Fimbulbringer drops: the video won't spoil what this endgame boss leaves behind. The creator only says it's a very powerful item for your endgame, worth having for building or messing around after the story. The wiki has no drop table for him yet, so we can't name it either, and we won't guess.

How this guide was fact-checked

The source is 04AM's Valheim FINAL BOSS Guide! Everything To Know to Defeat Deep North Boss!, premiered 18 September 2026, nine days after Valheim 1.0 and the Deep North launched (9 September 2026). The live patch at the time of writing is 1.0.20.

From the community Valheim wiki (Fandom), which wins wherever it and the video disagree. The wiki has no page for Kall Fimbulbringer, Malicious Blood, the Strange Bowl, the Aesir Passage, Mörkhalla or any Deep North food. Its Deep North page (last edited 8 October 2026) is marked unfinished. What we checked there:

  • Version history from 1.0.00 to 1.0.20 (last edited 15 October 2026): Kall and Malicious Blood listed as 1.0 additions, the Jotun event, and the 1.0.16 fix for boss-fight spawns outside the boss area
  • Every Forsaken power's 1.0 effect
  • Fader's health (25,000), used to sanity-check the video's health claim
  • Fire resistance barley wine and Frost resistance mead: 10 minutes each
  • Feather cape: very weak (2x) vs fire
  • Rested: +50% health regen and +100% stamina regen

From the video's own footage:

  • The Mörkhalla runestone, the Aesir Passage marker and the gateway
  • The Strange Bowl prompt and the outside and inside bowls
  • Nord shield, Thunderblood dagger, Oat Milk and Seal Meat Soup tooltips
  • Health at 281 with three foods
  • The "Aspect of" health bars in phase 2 and the "Tendril" bar in phase 3
  • The wall-and-shield Spike Rain tactic

Attributed to the video only: total health over 52,000, Kall's immunity to most Frostfire damage, the attack names, the Malicious Blood source and the Meat in Bread stats.

Corrections to the video:

  • "Meat and bread": the 1.0 patch notes call it Meat in Bread.
  • Yagluth's power: the video says "+10% on most things". The wiki says +10% damage, resistant vs lightning and +25 Farming.
  • Feather cape: the advice to skip it is right (the wiki confirms 2x fire weakness), but the creator's own HUD shows Feather fall active in early phases.
  • Spawns outside the arena: fixed in 1.0.16, after the video.

What this guide doesn't answer

  • Kall's exact attack damage and resistances: there's no wiki page or data-mined table yet, so we only describe what the video shows.
  • The reward item: the video keeps it secret and the wiki has no drop table. We'll add it once it's confirmed.
  • Mörkhalla in detail: the Intricate key, Grappling hook and dungeon layout are covered in the Valheim progression guide, not here.
  • Spellcaster and bow builds: the video is a dagger-and-shield run, so we don't rank staffs or bows for this fight.
  • Group scaling: the creator says the loadout works with friends too, but doesn't show how much Kall's health grows with more players.
  • Earlier bosses in full: for the originals behind the phase 2 aspects, see the Eikthyr guide and the Bonemass guide.

Frequently asked

How do you summon Kall Fimbulbringer in Valheim?

Offer 3 Malicious Blood in the Strange Bowl at the Aesir Passage in the Deep North. You find the Aesir Passage by reading the red runestone on the bottom floor of a Mörkhalla dungeon. Your first summon has to use the bowl outside the passage; after Kall has died once, later summons use the bowl inside.

Where do you get Malicious Blood in Valheim?

Per the 04AM video, each Mörkhalla dungeon gives one. Destroy the crystal on the bottom floor, survive the Jotun invasion that follows, then break the seal that appears to get one Malicious Blood. You need three, so clear three Mörkhalla dungeons. Each one needs an Intricate key to enter.

How many phases does Kall Fimbulbringer have?

Three. In phase 1 Kall uses four chain attacks: Chain Slam, Double Sweep, Chain Roll and Chain Rush. Phase 2 sends spectral aspects of the seven earlier Forsaken at you, two at a time after Eikthyr. In phase 3 Kall returns with more health and adds Ground Punch, Chain Flurry, Spike Rain and lightning-throwing tendrils.

What is the best gear to beat Kall Fimbulbringer?

The video wins with a Thunderblood dagger for lightning damage, a regular Nord shield to block big hits, the Vanguard set, Fire resistance barley wine and Frost resistance mead, plus Oat Milk, Seal Meat Soup and Meat in Bread. Skip Frostfire weapons, which the creator says Kall mostly ignores, and skip the Feather cape, which the wiki says makes you very weak to fire.

What does Kall Fimbulbringer drop?

It isn't confirmed yet. The Valheim wiki has no page or drop table for Kall Fimbulbringer, and the 04AM video only says the reward is a very powerful endgame item without showing it. We won't guess; the guide will be updated once the drop is documented.
