🎯 The core idea
Yagluth is Valheim's fifth boss and the gate out of the Plains. In Valheim 1.0 he has 10,000 health and only three attacks, and every one of them is fire. Offer 5 Fuling totems at his altar, drink Fire resistance barley wine first, fight him up close with blunt, frost or spirit damage, and use the stone pillars as cover from his meteors and fire breath.
- free costs nothing
- cheap small cost
- setup needs preparation
- grind pays off slowly
- skip the thing to stop doing
Yagluth location: his altar in the Plains
setup Yagluth's Forsaken altar is in the Plains, the biome you reach after Moder. If you came here straight from the Swamp, our Valheim Bonemass boss guide covers the boss two steps back, and the Valheim Eikthyr boss guide explains how Forsaken powers work.
Finding the altar is the awkward part. The Valheim wiki says a Vegvisir at a Stonehenge structure in the Plains can mark the nearest Yagluth location on your map, but Yagluth's Vegvisir has a very small chance to spawn. The wiki's own advice is that it's often easier to find the altar directly than to hunt for the Vegvisir. So for the Yagluth location, explore the Plains by boat along the coast or with a cart, and look for a raised stone platform with a ring of huge standing stones around it, like the one in the video.
Those stones matter later. The wiki's strategy page says the pillars around the arena are your cover from his meteors and his fire breath, and you'll use them all fight.
How to summon Yagluth: 5 Fuling totems
grind To summon Yagluth, place five Fuling totems on the altar. The wiki confirms the count, and the video shows all five standing on it before the fight. Totems weigh 1, stack to 30 and can go through a portal, so you can farm them anywhere and carry them over.
Each Valheim Fuling totem comes from one of these places, with the wiki's odds:
| Source | Chance |
|---|---|
| Next to each bonfire in a Fuling village | 50% |
| Inside some Fuling outpost variants | Guaranteed |
| Fuling berserker kill | 10% |
| Chest in a Stonehenge | 2.8% |
Villages are the main source, but they're heavily guarded. The wiki also warns that if the pedestal holding a totem gets destroyed before you take the totem, you lose it. Kill the defenders, then grab the totems before you start breaking things.
Before you offer them, check the area. The wiki's strategy page says a Fuling village or tar pits can spawn right next to the altar, and fighting those alongside the boss makes the fight much harder than it needs to be.
Yagluth weakness: what damage to bring
free Unlike Bonemass, Yagluth has no big weakness. The wiki's damage table is mostly neutral, with two types you should avoid:
| Damage type | Multiplier | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Blunt, Slash, Frost, Lightning, Spirit | 1x (neutral) | Full damage |
| Fire | 0.5x (resistant) | Half damage |
| Pierce | 0.25x (very resistant) | Arrows and spears barely hurt him |
| Poison, Stagger, Chop, Pickaxe | 0x (immune) | He never staggers |
So the real Yagluth weakness is any weapon that stacks several neutral types. The creator used Frostner, the silver mace from the Mountains. Per the wiki it hits for 35 blunt, 40 frost and 20 spirit at quality 1, and all three count fully against him. The wiki names Frostner and the Silver sword as decent choices because of their spirit damage, and says the raw damage of a Black metal sword also works.
The video says arrows don't do much damage, and the wiki agrees: pierce does a quarter. The creator carried the Draugr Fang, which deals pierce and poison, and he's immune to the poison part. If you want a ranged option, the wiki says Frost arrows are the best arrow type against him.
Yagluth solo gear: armour and shield
setup For the Yagluth solo fight in the video, the creator wore full Padded armour with the Shield of Roots, Frostner in one hand, and a Megingjord for carry weight. That's a normal Plains-level kit, not an endgame one.
| Item | Wiki stats at quality 1 | Why it helps here |
|---|---|---|
| Padded helmet, cuirass, greaves | 26 armour each, crafted from Iron and Linen thread at the Forge | The wiki says armour also reduces fire damage |
| Shield of Roots | 48 block armour, Finewood and Writhan roots at a level 2 Workbench | New in 1.0, no movement penalty, 10% less attack stamina |
| Frostner | 35 blunt, 40 frost, 20 spirit | Three neutral damage types in one hit |
You don't need to block much in this fight, so the shield mostly matters for the nova slam and for the Plains mobs that wander in. The Shield of Roots' lack of a speed penalty is the real reason to pick it, because you'll be running between pillars a lot.
Food and Fire resistance barley wine
cheap The creator's food was Lox meat pie, Fish wraps and Blood pudding (the video says "black pudding", but the in-game name is Blood pudding). Per the wiki:
| Food | Health | Stamina | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lox meat pie | 75 | 24 | 30 min |
| Fish wraps | 70 | 23 | 25 min |
| Blood pudding | 25 | 75 | 30 min |
The creator calls the fire resistance drink the most important thing in the fight, and the wiki goes further: the fight is balanced around it, and skipping it can be very dangerous. Players searching for "fire resistance mead" in Valheim mean this item, Fire resistance barley wine:
| Fire resistance barley wine | Value |
|---|---|
| Wine base ingredients | 10 Barley, 10 Cloudberries |
| Made at | Mead ketill, then fermented |
| Fermenting time | 2 in-game days |
| Yield | 6 wines per base |
| Effect | Resistant vs fire: fire damage taken is halved |
| Duration | 10 minutes |
The video's fight ran well past the 10-minute mark, and the creator kept an eye on the timer the whole time ("if you don't have it up, you will die"). Bring at least two, and drink the second the moment the first runs out. One thing that worked against Bonemass won't help here: the wiki says Yagluth's aura forces darkness and stops rain, so you can't use the Wet status as extra fire protection. The creator also carried Medium healing meads and a stamina mead, and drank a healing mead every time it came off cooldown.
Free damage while Yagluth rises
free When you place the last totem, the message "Yagluth's twisted soul has been summoned" appears and he slowly breaks out of the ground. The video says you can hit him early, and the wiki confirms it: you can attack him freely, and even backstab him, while he's rising, before he starts moving or attacking.
Drink your Fire resistance barley wine before you place the fifth totem. The creator forgot at first, and the opening meteors caught him while he was still looking for the boss. Then run straight to Yagluth and use the rising animation for as many heavy hits as you can.
Yagluth attacks and how to avoid each one
free The video says Yagluth has only three attacks and cycles between them, and the wiki lists the same three. All the numbers below come from the Valheim wiki.
| Attack | Tell | Damage | Cooldown | Range | How to handle it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meteors | Raises his left fist, which glows red | 10 meteors, each 40 blunt + 120 fire in a 5 m blast | 25 s | Within 30 m | Hide behind a pillar, outrun them, or stand in front of his face |
| Fire breath (Beam) | Breathes a straight line of fire that slowly turns towards you | 20 projectiles, each 40 fire + 20 lightning | 15 s | 10 to 40 m | Move sideways, or put a pillar between you |
| Nova | Raises his right fist, which glows blue, then slams the ground | 65 fire + 65 lightning in a 10 m radius, then lingering blue fire for 100 fire over time | 20 s | Within 10 m | Roll through the slam, then hit him |
All three set you on fire, and the breath and nova add the Lightning status too. The video at one point calls the slam his left hand. The wiki has it the other way round: left fist is meteors, right fist is the nova.
Meteors: use the pillars and his head
free The meteors are the attack that hurts most in the video. The creator's rule is simple: when the left fist goes up, get behind a pillar. That's also the wiki's first suggestion, along with outrunning them.
The wiki explains why it works. The meteors drop from about 50 metres up, in a 15-metre sphere centred 30 metres behind Yagluth, so they come down on the far side of him, and a pillar between you and that area catches most of them. If you're fighting him in melee, the wiki notes a second option: stay right in front of his face, because his head blocks most of the meteors.
Each meteor is 40 blunt and 120 fire. Even with the fire part halved by the wine, a few direct hits will take most of your health bar, which is why the creator ran every time.
Fire breath: move sideways, don't block
skip The breath (the video also calls it his spray or spit) is a straight line of 20 fire projectiles that slowly turns to follow you. The creator's answer is to run to the side and roll, and the wiki agrees: move left or right and it misses.
The wiki adds two important details:
- He only breathes at range. The breath is used when you're 10 to 40 metres away. If you stay in melee range, he switches to the nova instead.
- Don't try to block it. A shield can block it, but the wiki says this drains your stamina fast and isn't an effective strategy. Pillars work as cover too, but they take damage and eventually break.
The creator mostly avoided it by running sideways and then closing in once it ended.
Nova slam: the best moment to attack
free The nova is the right-hand slam. In the video, the creator says the slam gives a good chance to do damage, and lets him finish the attack before stepping in.
The wiki confirms you can dodge-roll the slam itself, because rolling makes you briefly invincible, and you can also block it. The lingering blue fire it leaves can't be blocked. The creator stood in it anyway and kept swinging, which works only because the barley wine halves its fire damage. Without the wine, that same choice would cost far more health.
Since the nova only triggers within 10 metres, staying close gives you a predictable rhythm: wait for the blue fist, roll the slam, then land your hits while he recovers.
How to beat Yagluth: hit, take cover, heal
free The video's plan for how to beat Yagluth is a loop, not a race:
- Stay close enough for the nova and roll it, then hit him with Frostner.
- When the red fist goes up for meteors, get behind the nearest pillar.
- If he breathes fire at you, run sideways, then walk back in.
- When your health gets low, step back behind a pillar, drink a healing mead and wait until you're topped up.
The creator says this is the only real damage window you get: right after a meteor or breath attack, and around the slam. The wiki puts it more bluntly: trying to avoid every hit makes the fight very long, because Yagluth gives few openings. With good food and armour you can take some hits and keep attacking.
He has 10,000 health, so expect a long fight. In the video it took about eight minutes from the summon to the kill.
Deathsquitos and other uninvited guests
setup Halfway through, a Deathsquito showed up and the creator had to stop and kill it before going back to the boss. That's normal in the Plains, and the wiki's strategy page has three ways to make it less of a problem:
- Clear the area first: kill any nearby Fulings and check for tar pits before placing the totems.
- Block spawns: campfires and workbenches stop enemies spawning near them. Yagluth's attacks or wandering mobs can still destroy them.
- Use Bonemass's power: the creator had it equipped. The wiki says it's mostly for the extra mobs, because Yagluth himself deals little physical damage.
The wiki also suggests digging a tunnel under the altar with a campfire for Rested, a place to repair and heal, or a portal out. Dig it deep enough that his nova doesn't reach it, and keep him away from the altar so he doesn't break it by accident.
Yagluth drops: Torn spirit and the trophy
free When his health bar empties, the message "Yagluth's soul has been defeated" appears and his head collapses. Per the wiki, the Yagluth drops are:
| Drop | Amount | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Valheim Torn spirit | 3 | Building the Wisp fountain for the Mistlands |
| Yagluth trophy | 1 | Unlocks the Yagluth power at the Sacrificial Stones |
The video shows "Added Torn spirit x3" in the pickup log, which matches the wiki's count. The Torn spirit used to be a placeholder item called the "Yagluth thing", until the Mistlands update gave it a use. Don't leave them behind, because the Wisp fountain is what gets you through the mist in the next biome.
Killing him also changes your world. Per the wiki, the "The horde is attacking" raid stops, the "What's up Gjall?!" and "They sought you out" raids are enabled, and 0-star Fulings can spawn at night in the Meadows, Black Forest and Mountains. Haldor starts selling Eggs for 1,500 coins, and the Bog Witch sells the Grasslands Herbalist Harvest for 160 coins.
Yagluth power: more damage for everyone nearby
free Take the trophy to the Sacrificial Stones where you first spawned and hang it on Yagluth's stone to unlock the Yagluth power. Activate it with the Forsaken power key (F by default).
Per the wiki, for 300 seconds it gives you, and every player within 10 metres:
- +10% damage of every type: blunt, slash, pierce, chop, pickaxe, fire, frost, lightning, poison and spirit
- Resistant (50% less damage) against lightning
- +25 to the Farming skill
Like every Forsaken power, it shares one 20-minute cooldown that doesn't reset if you sleep, log out or switch powers. The flat damage boost makes it a strong pick for the next boss fight and for clearing hard areas. The farming bonus is a nice extra when you replant a big field.
How this guide was fact-checked
The source is MrCoreRPG's Valheim 1.0 Yagluth boss combat video, uploaded on 26 September 2026, after 1.0 and Deep North launched on 9 September. The live patch is 1.0.20 at the time of writing. The wiki's version history shows no change to Yagluth, his altar, his drops, his power or Fire resistance barley wine between 1.0.00 and 1.0.20, so this is still a valid Valheim 1.0 Yagluth guide. The 1.0.20 change that ties trophy drop chance to a creature's star level doesn't affect a guaranteed boss trophy.
From the community Valheim wiki (Fandom), which wins wherever it and the video disagree:
- Health (10,000), the damage multiplier table and stagger immunity
- The attack table: tells, damage, ranges and cooldowns
- The summon cost (5 Fuling totems), totem sources and odds, and the Vegvisir note
- Fire resistance barley wine recipe and effect, and the forced darkness with no rain
- Food stats for Lox meat pie, Fish wraps and Blood pudding
- Frostner, Shield of Roots and Padded armour stats

- The pillar, head-cover, spawn-blocking and tunnel tips from the Boss strategies page (last edited 3 October 2026)
The Yagluth page was last edited on 13 September 2026, after 1.0's release. The wiki.gg mirror refused automated access, so every wiki fact here comes from Fandom.
From the video's own footage:
- Frostner, Shield of Roots, Padded armour, the food set and the healing meads as the solo loadout
- Hiding behind pillars for meteors and running sideways from the breath
- Attacking after the slam and standing in the lingering fire with the wine active
- The Deathsquito interruption and Bonemass's power equipped
- The 3 Torn spirits in the pickup log after the kill
Corrections and clarifications to the video:
- Which hand: the video calls the slam his left hand at one point. The wiki says the left fist is meteors and the right fist is the nova.
- "Black pudding": the in-game food is Blood pudding.
- "Fire resistance potion": the item is Fire resistance barley wine, a fermented wine, not a mead or potion.
- Arrows: the video says arrows don't do much. True for normal arrows (pierce is 0.25x), but the wiki names Frost arrows as the best arrow type against him.
- Damage windows: the video treats the post-attack moments as the only windows. The wiki adds that he only breathes fire at range, so staying in melee mostly trades the breath for the nova, which you can roll.
What this guide doesn't answer
- Moder and the Mountains: you need silver gear before this fight, and that boss has its own preparation.
- Farming Barley, Flax and Black metal: Plains farming and gear crafting are a separate gear topic.
- Where the altar is in your seed: world generation decides it, and Yagluth's Vegvisir is rare.
- Group fights: this guide follows a solo run. A group can chain Forsaken powers, but that wasn't tested here.
- The Queen and the Mistlands: the Torn spirits start that biome, but it needs its own guide.
- Mods and world modifiers: everything here assumes default 1.0 combat difficulty.
Frequently asked
How do you summon Yagluth in Valheim?
Place 5 Fuling totems on Yagluth's Forsaken altar in the Plains. Totems have a 50% chance to sit next to each bonfire in a Fuling village, are guaranteed in some Fuling outposts, drop from 10% of Fuling berserkers and from 2.8% of Stonehenge chests. Clear any nearby Fulings or tar pits before placing the last one.
Where is Yagluth's altar in Valheim?
His Forsaken altar is in the Plains, on a raised stone platform ringed by huge standing stones. A Vegvisir at a Stonehenge can mark it on your map, but the wiki says Yagluth's Vegvisir is very rare, so exploring the Plains coast by boat or cart is often faster.
What is Yagluth weak to?
Yagluth has no real weakness. Blunt, slash, frost, lightning and spirit all do normal damage, fire does half and pierce only a quarter, and he is immune to poison and stagger. Weapons that mix several neutral types work best, such as Frostner (blunt, frost and spirit). Frost arrows are the best arrow type.
Do you need fire resistance for Yagluth?
Yes. The wiki says the fight is balanced around Fire resistance barley wine, which halves fire damage for 10 minutes. Make it in a Mead ketill from 10 Barley and 10 Cloudberries and ferment it for 6 wines. Bring at least two, because the fight can run past 10 minutes and his rain-free aura means Wet won't protect you.
What does Yagluth drop?
Yagluth drops 3 Torn spirits and the Yagluth trophy. Torn spirits build the Wisp fountain for the Mistlands. Hang the trophy at the Sacrificial Stones for the Yagluth power: 300 seconds of +10% damage, 50% lightning resistance and +25 Farming for you and players within 10 metres, on the shared 20-minute cooldown.
