🎯 The core idea

Midtown (Empire of the Eternal Night) is a Convoy map that runs through a NYC-styled Grand Central district, and it's dense with healing orbs (the in-game term for what most players call health packs), flank routes, chokepoints, and destructible buildings that change the map mid-fight. This guide is a full route strategy from both the attacker's and defender's perspective, checkpoint by checkpoint, with every healing orb location called out -- including one of the map's best-kept secrets: the buildings that reshape themselves under fire.

This is a route and health-pack layout guide, not a hero tier list -- the map's physical layout hasn't changed since launch, so this holds up regardless of the current balance patch. See "How this guide was fact-checked" for what's been verified.

First stretch: attacking out of spawn

Out of spawn, the side door leads straight to the enemy's flank -- a strong opening route since it sets up a pick before the fight even starts around the convoy itself. The first healing orb sits right outside that door; pushing further reaches a balcony with a second orb next to it, and going deeper still finds a third.

Checkpoint 2: a simple straight line

The second point is comparatively simple -- just two healing orbs on a straight line. The first is tucked inside a wall structure, and the second sits behind a bus stop (pictured above). A third, more out-of-the-way orb sits deep in a side alley, and a last-resort orb is available above a nearby staircase if you need it.

For the next stretch you get a choice of side. Picking right gets you one orb immediately and a second one upstairs -- a position that lets you hit enemies from above or flank around them. Picking left gets you a first orb quickly, a second behind a nearby wall, and a third that's somewhat hidden nearby.

Checkpoint 3: destructible buildings and a defender-favored stretch

The next two healing orbs on this stretch mostly favor defenders, though attackers can still make use of them on the final push into the point -- one inside a door on the right side, the other inside a locker room on the opposite side.

One structure on this stretch is highlighted red and will physically transform once it takes enough damage -- when it does, a new healing orb spawns directly beneath it. This is one of Midtown's more distinctive map mechanics: certain buildings aren't static geometry, they change mid-round based on how much damage they've absorbed.

Final stretch: buildings that reshape the map

On the last stretch, attackers spawn from a new set of doors with one healing orb just outside them. Deeper into the push, there's an orb inside some ruins, one inside a building, another out in the open, and a final one tucked inside a small building.

The buildings on this final stretch are all flagged the same way as the one on checkpoint 3 -- highlighted red, and destructible. Once they take enough damage they transform into new pick points with solid walls, which is genuinely useful cover for either side. The tradeoff: transforming a building also removes any healing orb that was located inside it, so a fight that drags on and destroys the terrain can permanently change your healing options mid-round.

Playing defense: the mirrored route

From defender spawn, you can take a riskier road-level pick using a nearby healing orb, or fall back to the same two balcony orbs attackers use on the first stretch, plus one more road-level pick point with its own orb behind it. The second checkpoint mirrors the same two straight-line orbs described above from the attacker's side.

On the next point, the first orb is on a balcony right next to defender spawn -- a high-risk, high-reward pick spot -- or, for a safer road-level position, there's a second pick point with its own orb just behind it, useful for picking from range. Two more orbs on this stretch exist specifically to help defenders get back on their feet and return to the fight after a bad trade.

Defenders' second spawn point sits in a specific spot worth knowing, since it opens a road that's usable for flanking if the situation calls for it. On the final defensive stand, there are four more healing orbs: one out in the open, one usable if picking from that side, one for picking from above, and a last one for picking from that specific area -- giving defenders solid healing coverage no matter which angle they choose to hold from.

How this guide was fact-checked

The Marvel Rivals Wiki (marvelrivals.wiki.gg) confirms Midtown is still a current map under the Convoy game mode via its Maps listing page, matching this guide's Notion brief that the map's layout has been unchanged since launch -- the source video is from January 2025, over a year old at the time of writing, so this confirmation matters. The wiki has no dedicated page breaking down Midtown's specific routes or healing-orb placements, so all route-level detail in this guide comes directly from the source video, cross-checked against the images captured above. Because Midtown's terrain (unlike a hero's kit or a proficiency system) isn't something balance patches typically touch, this guide treats the route and orb-placement information as reliable without the kind of numeric fact-check that a hero-specific guide would need.

What this guide doesn't answer

This guide doesn't rank heroes for Midtown or recommend a specific comp, since hero viability shifts with balance patches far more often than a map's physical layout does -- the flank-heavy first stretch and the destructible-building mechanic both reward mobile, aggressive picks in general, but naming a "best hero" here would age faster than the map itself. It also doesn't give exact damage thresholds for when a red-highlighted building actually transforms, since the source video only shows that it happens, not the specific number behind it. And it doesn't cover this map's appearance in any other game mode, since Midtown is confirmed as a Convoy-mode map only.

Frequently asked

How many checkpoints does Midtown have?

Midtown is a three-checkpoint Convoy map. Attackers push the payload through checkpoint 1 (the flank-heavy opening stretch), checkpoint 2 (a straight-line push through the Grand Central area), and a final stretch featuring destructible buildings, before reaching the last defensive corner where the round ends.

What happens when the red-highlighted buildings on Midtown take damage?

Certain buildings on checkpoint 3 and the final stretch are highlighted red and physically transform once they take enough damage, turning into new solid-wall pick points. The tradeoff is that this also destroys any healing orb located inside that building, permanently changing the map's healing options for the rest of the round.

Is Midtown still a current map in Marvel Rivals?

Yes. The Marvel Rivals Wiki's Maps listing page confirms Midtown is still an active Convoy-mode map, and its physical layout has been unchanged since launch, so route and health-orb information from older footage still holds up.

Where is the best route out of attacker spawn on Midtown?

The side door leading to a flank route is generally the strongest opening, since it can set up a pick before the fight starts around the convoy. Alternatively, a set of stairs just outside spawn lets you take the high ground directly, or you can cross a bridge to reach the same balcony position the flank route leads to.

Does this guide recommend a best hero or comp for Midtown?

No. This is a route and health-pack layout guide, not a hero tier list -- hero viability shifts with balance patches far more often than a map's physical layout does, so naming a 'best hero' here would go stale quickly. The guide focuses on positioning, chokepoints and healing-orb locations instead.
