What the five Gunsmith stats actually measure
Open any weapon in the Gunsmith, scroll to the stat summary, and click "Details" at the bottom β the top-level bars hide a second screen with five full tabs. On the stock MP7 in this build the tabs read Damage 34, Control 46, Handling 60, Stability 51, and an Accuracy value that only matters from the hip. The Damage tab is the one that behaves exactly like you'd expect: a falloff graph against range, plus a body diagram of flat per-hit numbers. On this MP7, an unarmored hit does 68 to the head, 34 to the chest and stomach, and 17 everywhere else (arms, hands, legs, feet), and the falloff multiplier drops from 1.0 to roughly 0.8 by the 40 m mark and holds there.
Control is your recoil stat, not Stability
This is the single most useful thing in the whole video: recoil control does not live under the Stability tab, it lives under Control. The Control tab breaks down into four sub-attributes β full-auto vertical/horizontal recoil multiplier, and single/burst vertical/horizontal recoil multiplier β plus a side-by-side trajectory graph comparing your base spray pattern to your current, modified one. Any attachment description that says it "increases Control" is the one reducing how far your reticle climbs and drifts when you hold the trigger. Handling and Stability: speed versus steadiness
Handling is a catch-all for every timing stat on the weapon: ADS speed, sprint-to-fire delay, ADS movement speed, walk speed, sprint speed, reload time, empty reload time, holster time and weapon-switch time all sit under this one number. On the base MP7 that means a 289 ms ADS speed, a 109 ms sprint-fire delay, 1.8 s reload (2 s from empty), and a 0.3 s holster and weapon-switch time. If a gun feels sluggish to pull up or slow to reload, Handling is the stat to chase β not Stability, which covers something adjacent but different.
Stability is about how much the gun moves on its own: breath sway range (0.42Β° on this build), breath-holding duration (20 s), the recoil reduction you get while holding your breath (0.95x β i.e. barely any bonus at this stability level), your hit-flinch multiplier (0.8x, so getting shot at kicks the reticle 20% less than base), and movement/lens stability while firing. High stability matters most for guns you'll be holding your breath with or getting shot at while aiming β snipers and marksman rifles more than SMGs.
Accuracy is the fifth stat and easy to misread: it only affects hip-fire spread tightness, not aim-down-sights accuracy or bullet spread while ADS. An attachment that costs you Accuracy is only costing you hip-fire performance.
Choosing a barrel: the attachment that shapes everything else
Barrel is the first attachment slot worth thinking hard about, because on most guns it also unlocks extra attachment slots (this MP7's barrels open up a bipod mount and two rail patches). More slots isn't automatically better β every added part is more weight and worse handling β so judge each barrel by its actual stat trade, not by how many extra mounting points it opens. Across four barrel options priced between 23,000 and 49,000 in-game currency, the Lunar Chrome Barrel at 27,782 was the pick: Range +6, Control +4, Handling +4, Stability +4, with zero hip-fire (Accuracy) cost. The two pricier options each traded away 12 points of hip-fire accuracy for gains this build didn't need.
Suppressor, grips, magazine and stock: fast picks and why
For an SMG built around close-range hip-fire, the video's picks were consistent with one goal: keep hip-fire accuracy high while pushing Control and Stability up. The Multi Suppressor was chosen over three cheaper/pricier alternatives because it kept Stability and Accuracy untouched while still adding range and Control β the other suppressors on the list dropped handling or the hip-fire stat this build depends on. The Stable Rear Grip added Control and Stability at a small Handling cost. The 60-round magazine was the obvious pick for an SMG that empties mags fast, even though bigger mags always cost a little Handling. For the stock, the video weighed the High Performance Stock (more Accuracy) against the Shadow Buffer Stock (more Handling, some Stability lost) and went with the Shadow Buffer for the extra control an SMG needs while moving. The foregrip pick was the Universal Front Hand Stop, chosen specifically to recover the hip-fire accuracy this weapon needed even though it cost a little Control.
Optics and rails: the genuinely subjective part
Once the functional stats are locked in, optics and rails are mostly a matter of taste β the underlying scope stats are identical across most options at a given tier, so the decision comes down to price and screen real estate. This build added a Multi-Purpose Tactical Rail (to free up the top rail for a laser), a Riser Optic (so the red-dot sits above the laser instead of being blocked by it), and a Mini Red Dot Sight, which cost 2 points of Handling in exchange for a clean sight picture. No extra rail attachments were added on top, since the riser and optic already covered what those would have offered.
Calibration: tuning the parts you already installed
Calibration is a second, free layer of tuning on top of whatever attachments you've already bought β you're moving sliders on parts you own, not paying for new gear. From Gunsmith, go to Modify β Calibrate to see which installed parts can be tuned (in this build: barrel, foregrip, rear grip, stock and riser optic). The finished MP7 in the Loadouts tab reads: Damage 32, Range 30 m, Control 70, Handling 60, Stability 50, Accuracy 88, Armor Penetration 28, Fire Rate 950 rpm, Capacity 60, Muzzle Velocity 726 m/s, Gunshot Sound range 150 m, at a total value of 594,920 in-game currency. Compared to the bare weapon, Control climbed from 46 to 70 and Handling from roughly the base line to 60, while Accuracy actually improved to 88 rather than suffering β proof that the "protect hip-fire" attachment choices paid off rather than just avoiding losses.
Tested live on the range at roughly 30β35 m, the calibrated MP7 holds a tight, controllable pattern with only small aim corrections needed β the video's own read is that this is close to the effective limit for an SMG engagement distance; beyond it, switch to an AR or a sniper rather than trying to stretch an SMG's range further.
The video's on-screen numbers shift slightly between the initial base-weapon teardown (Damage 34) and the final loadout screen (Damage 32) β likely a different weapon skin/roll shown at each point, since no attachment in this build lists a Damage stat.
