🎯 The core idea

Ranked Mode in Deadlock unlocks after 60 wins in Standard plus three heroes with 15 Standard wins each. Then you play 8 solo placement matches, land at Oracle VI at best, and climb 11 ranks from Initiate to Eternus at roughly 300 rank points per game. Beta Season 1 now ends on November 5, 2026, and Season 2 starts right after, so the unlock grind you do now carries straight into the next season.

How to unlock Ranked: the 60 wins requirement

grind Ranked came back to Deadlock on July 30, 2026, as part of a matchmaking overhaul that split the queue into Standard Mode (unranked) and the new Ranked Mode. On the play-mode screen the Ranked card stays greyed out until you meet the requirements, and the main one is simple: 60 wins in Standard. Losses don't count against you and there is no time limit; the counter only goes up when your team wins.

The full list of ranked requirements on deadlock.wiki is short:

RequirementWhat the game checks
Total wins60 wins in Standard Mode
Ranked heroesAt least 3 heroes unlocked for Ranked
Per-hero unlock15 Standard wins on a hero unlocks that hero for Ranked
Account standingNo active matchmaking restrictions or bans
Party sizeSolo or a party of 2 at most

The video lists the same 60 wins and 15-per-hero numbers, so on the core requirement it matches the wiki.

Three heroes with 15 wins each

setup The second line on the Ranked screen reads "heroes with 15 or more wins", and it is the one that catches people out. You can only pick heroes in Ranked that you have won 15 Standard games with, and you need three of them before the queue opens. In the video's screen the creator already has 60/60 wins but only 1/3 heroes, so Ranked is still locked.

The wins overlap. Every win on one of your three main heroes counts toward both that hero's 15 and the overall 60, so 45 of your 60 wins can be the hero requirement itself. The fastest path is to pick three heroes early and play almost only them, rather than spreading 60 wins over a dozen heroes and finishing with none at 15.

There is one exception on the wiki: recently released heroes are exempt from the 15-win rule for a limited time, but they do not count toward your three. Deadlock added Rat King (October 2), Baba (October 6), Solomon (October 9) and Deadman Danny (October 13), so check the Heroes tab in the Ranked menu to see which of them you can pick right now. The wiki doesn't say how long the exemption lasts.

What counts toward the unlock (Standard only)

skip Only Standard Mode wins count, for both the 60 total and the per-hero 15. Street Brawl, bot matches, the sandbox and custom lobbies add nothing. That matters because much of the gameplay footage in this video is Street Brawl (the item-draft screen and round counters give it away), and those rounds would not move the counter at all.

Standard also lets you queue as a full party, so playing with friends you trust is a fair way to win more often while you grind. Ranked itself is stricter, as the next section explains.

Placement matches, duo queue and party rules

free Once you are eligible, your first 8 Ranked games are placement matches. Placements can only be played solo. When they're done, the highest rank you can start at is Oracle VI, so even a perfect placement run leaves Phantom, Ascendant and Eternus to earn by climbing.

After placements you can duo queue in Ranked, but not more than that: parties of 3 or more are not allowed. Your duo partner has to be within 1 rank of you, and in Eternus the gap shrinks to 3 subranks. The chalkboard in your Hideout tracks it all: it shows your current rank or placement progress and your last ranked result, and the machine next to it prints a ticker tape of recent games (green for wins, red for losses).

Deadlock ranks explained: Obscurus to Eternus

The in-game Ranked overview states it plainly: 11 ranks, each split into six subranks from I to VI, with VI the highest. Players who haven't placed yet are Obscurus, which is the unranked state, not a rank you play in. From lowest to highest:

#RankBadge material
0ObscurusUnranked
1InitiateBrick
2SeekerStone
3AcolyteIron
4SentinelBronze
5MysticSilver
6RitualistGold
7EmissaryPlatinum
8OracleDiamond
9Phantomnone listed
10Ascendantnone listed
11Eternusnone listed

Eternus is the top rank, and it works differently from the rest. Instead of point thresholds, Eternus subranks are set by percentile within Eternus: I from 0%, II from 25%, III from 50%, IV from 70%, V from 85% and VI from 95%.

Rank points (RP), win streaks and loss protection

grind You win or lose about 300 rank points (RP) per match. The exact number shifts slightly with matchmaking quality, and it goes up on a win streak. A subrank costs 1,000 RP and moving up to the next full rank costs 2,000 RP, so a subrank takes roughly four net wins. The base was 250 RP at launch; the August 2, 2026 update raised it by 20% to 300.

Win streaks add bonus points from your third win in a row:

Consecutive winStreak bonus
3rd+70 RP
4th+90 RP
5th+110 RP
6th and later+130 RP (cap)

The wiki's overview gives this ladder. Its update-history line for August 2 says the max streak bonus went "from +75 to +90 at 5 wins", which doesn't match. Treat the ladder as the current description and the bonus sizes as approximate.

Loss protection is built in. When you hit the bottom of a subrank, you get 2 matches of rank protection before dropping a subrank, and 5 matches before dropping a whole rank. Shield icons under your rank progress bar show how many you have left, and the Hideout chalkboard gets its own doodle while you're protected.

Pre-match phase: ranked bans and hero swaps

setup Ranked matches have 3 hero bans, one more than Standard. That's another reason to have more than the minimum three heroes ready: if your best pick is banned, your next one needs 15 wins too.

During the pre-match phase you have 30 seconds to swap lanes or change to another hero you've unlocked for Ranked. Each player can only change hero once, you can't see whether the enemy team changed, and you can't take a hero someone in either team already has.

Abandons follow fixed rules. If someone leaves before the 5-minute mark, the match becomes unscored and safe to leave for everyone except the leaver and their duo. After 5 minutes it becomes unscored only for the leaver's team, unless that team still wins. If a whole team leaves, the other team wins.

Leaderboards and the rank distribution

The Ranked menu's View Leaderboards button opens the Global leaderboard: the top 1,000 players per region (North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania), each shown with up to 3 of their highest-rated heroes. Hero leaderboards list the top 1,000 players on each hero.

To appear, you need 75 matches in the past 30 days for the global board. For a hero board you need 30 matches on that hero in the past 30 days and 100 total wins with it.

On rank distribution: neither the game nor deadlock.wiki publishes a percentage breakdown of players per rank for this ranked system. The only official percentiles are the Eternus subrank cut-offs above. Any rank distribution chart you see is a third-party estimate.

Season 1 end date and Ranked Season 2

free The first season is officially called Beta Season 1. It started on July 30, 2026, and the in-game screen in this video showed an end date of October 9, 2026. On October 6, Valve pushed it back: Beta Season 1 now ends on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM PDT (21:00 UTC), and the next season starts immediately after.

As of October 19, 2026, deadlock.wiki has nothing on Ranked Season 2 beyond "starts immediately after". It doesn't say whether ranks reset, whether placements repeat or what season rewards look like. The wiki does say badges for your profile depend on the highest rank you reach, so push for your peak before November 5. This guide will be updated when Valve announces the Season 2 details.

Best heroes to grind the 60 wins

The video's answer to the grind is to win fast by pushing objectives, and it picks three heroes for that. These are the creator's opinions, not a tier list, and the ability claims needed some fixing against the wiki:

HeroVideo's role for the grindWhat the wiki says about the key abilities
McGinnisSiege: escort waves into Guardians and WalkersMini Turrets deal reduced damage to troopers and objectives, so they're for zoning enemy heroes, not for burning structures. Medicinal Specter heals nearby allies; its listed fire rate bonus is 0%, so it isn't an attack-speed buff as the video says. Spectral Wall slows enemies passing through and can erupt to split the terrain.
SevenTempo: instant wave clearThe ability is Lightning Ball (the video calls it "lightning bolt"), a damaging ball that also slows. Power Surge adds bouncing shock damage to his bullets. Storm Cloud is a long-cooldown ultimate that only hurts enemies in line of sight.
WraithBurst: pick off defendersFull Auto boosts her own fire rate and adds spirit damage per bullet. It doesn't buff troopers, which the video claims. Project Mind is a teleport. Telekinesis lifts an enemy hero and slams them down, stunning during the lift.

The underlying advice holds up: heroes who clear waves and take objectives quickly shorten your games, and shorter wins mean a faster unlock. Pick three heroes you already win with rather than copying these three if they don't suit you. The 15-win-per-hero rule rewards depth.

How to rank up fast once you're in

cheap Most ways to climb faster come straight from the RP rules:

  • Protect your streaks. Streak bonuses start on the third straight win and reach +130 RP, so a run of wins is worth far more than the same wins spread out. Stop after a loss that tilted you rather than queueing angry.
  • Duo with someone you win with. Ranked allows parties of 2 within 1 rank of each other, and a reliable duo partner is the only coordination you can bring in.
  • Bank more than three heroes. With 3 bans per match, a fourth or fifth hero at 15 Standard wins keeps you from being forced off your best picks.
  • skip Don't leave games. Leaving gets you matchmaking restrictions, and any restriction locks you out of the Ranked queue entirely.
  • Use your protection matches calmly. Two games of subrank protection and five of rank protection mean one bad game rarely costs you a rank. Play them normally rather than forcing risky plays.

How this guide was fact-checked

  • From deadlock.wiki (Ranked Mode page and its update history, checked October 19, 2026): the unlock requirements (60 Standard wins, 3 heroes, 15 wins per hero, the new-hero exemption, no bans, parties of 2 max), 8 solo placement matches and the Oracle VI cap, duo rank gaps, ~300 RP per match and the 250 to 300 increase on August 2, 2026, 1,000 RP per subrank and 2,000 per rank, the win-streak ladder, 2 and 5 match rank protection, Eternus percentiles, 3 ranked bans, the 30-second pre-match rules, abandon rules, leaderboard requirements, the full rank list, and the November 5, 2026 season end date (announced October 6).
  • From the wiki's Updates page: release dates for Rat King, Baba, Solomon and Deadman Danny.
  • From the wiki hero pages for McGinnis, Seven and Wraith: the ability descriptions in the hero table.
  • From the video's own screen: the Ranked overview showing "60 / 60 wins in Standard" and "1 / 3 heroes with 15 or more wins", the eleven rank badges, and the original season dates (July 30 to October 9, 2026).
  • Corrections to the video: Mini Turrets deal reduced damage to objectives (the video says they burn down structures); Medicinal Specter has no base attack-speed buff; Full Auto only buffs Wraith, not troopers; Seven's ability is Lightning Ball, not "lightning bolt"; the season end date on screen (October 9) is outdated and is now November 5, 2026. The video also doesn't mention placement matches, rank points, rank protection, bans or the party limits; all of those come from the wiki.
  • Wiki inconsistency: the streak-bonus ladder and the August 2 changelog line disagree about the bonus at 5 wins; both are reported above.

What this guide doesn't answer

  • Ranked Season 2 details such as resets, placements or rewards: nothing official yet beyond "starts immediately after".
  • The exact RP formula behind "slightly adjusted based on matchmaking quality": the wiki doesn't publish it.
  • How long the new-hero exemption lasts: the wiki only says "a limited time".
  • A hero tier list for Ranked: the three picks above are the video's grind suggestions, not a meta ranking.
  • Full builds for McGinnis, Seven or Wraith: that belongs in their hero guides, not a ranked explainer.
  • Behavior score and how long matchmaking restrictions last: outside the Ranked Mode page and not covered here.

Frequently asked

How do you unlock Ranked in Deadlock?

You need 60 wins in Standard Mode and at least three heroes unlocked for Ranked. A hero unlocks for Ranked after 15 Standard wins with it, and those wins also count toward the 60. Your account must have no active matchmaking restrictions or bans. Street Brawl, bot matches and custom lobbies don't count.

How many placement matches are there in Deadlock Ranked?

There are 8 placement matches, and they can only be played solo. After placements the highest rank you can start at is Oracle VI, so Phantom, Ascendant and Eternus have to be earned by climbing.

What are all the ranks in Deadlock?

From lowest to highest: Initiate, Seeker, Acolyte, Sentinel, Mystic, Ritualist, Emissary, Oracle, Phantom, Ascendant and Eternus, each with subranks I to VI. Obscurus is the unranked state before placements. Eternus subranks are set by percentile instead of points.

How many rank points do you get per win in Deadlock?

About 300 rank points per match, won or lost, adjusted slightly for matchmaking quality. A subrank needs 1,000 points and a full rank 2,000. Win streaks add bonus points from the third straight win, rising to a cap of +130, and rank protection gives you 2 matches before dropping a subrank and 5 before dropping a rank.

When does Deadlock Ranked Season 1 end?

Beta Season 1 was extended on October 6, 2026 and now ends on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM PDT (21:00 UTC). The next season starts immediately after. Valve hasn't announced Season 2 details such as rank resets or rewards yet.
