🎯 The core idea
City Never Sleeps (2026-09-29) replaced the old Deadlock map with a rebuilt Cursed Apple. Three color-coded lanes (York, Broadway, Greenwich) each run through three named locations, and four jungle districts sit between them: Theater, Chinatown, Haunted Lot and Plaza. Learn the nine lane callouts, which district sits next to which lane, and where the two soul jackpots are (the Bell Tower and the Sunken Plaza), and you will stop getting lost.
- free costs nothing
- cheap small cost
- setup needs preparation
- grind pays off slowly
- skip the thing to stop doing
How the new Deadlock map is laid out
The map is still New York, nicknamed the Cursed Apple, but the City Never Sleeps map rework rebuilt it from the ground up. Valve's own patch page for the update calls it "an updated visitor's guide to New York City", and the video scrolls through it in its first two minutes. The new map layout is easy to describe:
- Three lanes, each with its own color and zipline: York (yellow), Broadway (blue, the middle lane) and Greenwich (green). Each lane is split into three named locations, so there are nine lane callouts in total.
- Four districts fill the gaps between lanes: Theater, Chinatown, Haunted Lot and Plaza. The wiki also calls these districts, plus the alleys and tunnels that link them, the jungle. They have no Guardians and no Troopers, only Haunts, breakables and Sinner's Sacrifices.
- Two bases: The Hidden King (Orange team, a run-down factory) and The Archmother (Blue team, a neoclassical museum).
The map is asymmetrical but offers similar paths and farm on both sides. One detail trips up new players: the minimap always flips so your own base is at the bottom. From left to right, a Hidden King player sees Yellow, Blue, Green, while an Archmother player sees Green, Blue, Yellow. Call lanes by name (York, Broadway, Greenwich) or color, never by "left" or "right", because your teammates on the other side of the flip don't share your left.
Broadway lane: Uptown, Times Square and Downtown
free Broadway is the blue middle lane: open, brightly lit streets covered in billboards and neon. The wiki calls it the most important lane because it is the shortest route to the enemy base and because the Midboss lives in the sewer right below Times Square, in the very middle of the map. It is also the only lane that touches all four districts, so it is the natural place to rotate from.
The Broadway lane has three locations, in the order the patch page lists them:
| Callout | What to know |
|---|---|
| Uptown | First stop on Valve's tour; the patch page pitches it as the quickest route to where the action is |
| Times Square | The center of the map; the Midboss pit is underneath it |
| Downtown | The third stretch of the lane |
After the Midboss dies it leaves a Rejuvenator Crystal either team can claim, and the wiki puts its respawn at 7 minutes after the first kill, 6 after the second and 5 after every kill after that. If your team wins a fight anywhere near Times Square, look down before you look forward.
Greenwich lane: Umbria University, Central Park and The Brownstones
Greenwich is a side lane, also called Green or Park. It is overgrown with trees and vines growing out of the buildings. Its three locations are Umbria University, Central Park and The Brownstones. The video calls the first one "Umbra University"; both the wiki and Valve's own patch page (on screen at 0:39) spell it Umbria University.
setup The districts closest to the Greenwich lane are Theater and Chinatown. If your Greenwich laner says the enemy is missing, those two districts are where they are most likely farming or setting up a gank. The wiki notes the Midboss pit is still labeled "Park", a leftover from when Green Lane was called Park, which is why some players still say "Park" for Greenwich.
York lane: Stock Exchange, Shipyard Docks and Fairfax Factories
York is the other side lane, also called Yellow. It is heavily industrial, with heavy equipment, trucks and loading docks. The wiki lists its three locations as the Stock Exchange, the Shipyard Docks and the Fairfax Factories. Valve's patch page, shown in the video at 1:08, labels the last two "Seaport Dock" and "Old Fairfax Factories", so expect players to use either name.
setup The districts next to the York lane are the Haunted Lot and the Plaza. York and Greenwich also share two rotating objectives:
- Soul Urn: always spawns on York first, then alternates Greenwich, York, and so on. It has to be carried to the opposite side lane. The wiki's map icon table puts the first spawn at 10:00, with a new one every 5 minutes if nobody is carrying the current one.
- Unstable Rift: a king-of-the-hill objective that spawns on either Greenwich or York. It usually alternates sides but can repeat. If one enemy stays inside the circle, your capture cannot go past 99%.
Theater District: Stage Hands under a glass dome
The Theater District is on The Archmother's side of the map, next to Greenwich. Almost all of it sits inside one large theater full of Haunts and breakables. You can get in through several doors and through a broken glass roof dome that drops into the main auditorium. That dome is the entrance enemies watch least, which makes it the best way to drop in on someone farming below.
The video's gameplay shows the auditorium at 1:27, with the minimap labeled THEATER and a Stage Hand haunt floating over the stage. On the wiki, Stage Hands only come in medium and large camps, and their special attack is a laser that leaves fire on the ground. Don't fight them standing in that fire.
Chinatown District and the Bell Tower
The Chinatown District is on The Hidden King's right-hand side, next to Greenwich, and is decorated with hanging lanterns and East-Asian buildings. The video shows it at 1:12 with the minimap labeled CHINATOWN. It matters because of the Bell Tower, which the wiki calls one of the two biggest concentrations of souls on the map.
cheap How the Bell Tower works, per the wiki:
- You can only get in or out by a central rope.
- The top holds several breakables and three Sinner's Sacrifices (players call them "triples").
- Damaging anything up there rings the bell, which tells the whole map someone is inside. The bell can ring at most once every 30 seconds.
- Clearing everything with heavy melees takes about 28 seconds. If you take too long, the bell rings a second time while you are leaving.
- A barrier above the railing stops you jumping out, but it does not block projectiles, and the only cover is four corner pillars.
You can also ring the bell from a distance by shooting the golden statues. That makes it a decent distraction when you want the enemy to look at Chinatown while you take something else.
Haunted Lot District: the basketball court
The Haunted Lot District is on The Hidden King's left-hand side, next to York. It has sickly green light and glowing fungus on the walls, and most of it is one wide open space ringed by buildings and warehouses. The video shows it at 1:32 with the minimap labeled HAUNTED LOT. The basketball court and its haunt camp are clearly visible.
Per the wiki, the court in the center holds a camp of Underhands around a basketball. The ball is a physics object that you can knock around. Toward Broadway there is a small garage with two Sinner's Sacrifices ("doubles"). skip Don't fight across the open court against a team with long-range damage, because the court has almost no cover.
Sunken Plaza and Bell Tower: the two soul jackpots
The fourth district is the Plaza District, on The Archmother's side next to York. It is built around a huge Fairfax Industries statue whose base gives off a purple fog. The fog sinks into an underground plaza, the Sunken Plaza, which holds a large group of Haunts and breakables. The video shows no Plaza footage (the frame above is Valve's Chinatown shot from the same reveal), so everything here comes from the wiki.
setup The fog does three things to heroes inside it:
- You cannot hear what is going on around you through the fog layer.
- You cannot see into or out of the plaza through it.
- Stamina drains slowly and does not regenerate.
When your stamina hits 0 you can no longer wall jump. You have to climb out near the Sinner's Sacrifice boxes or leave through the underground corridors. Enter with full stamina, don't spend it on wall jumps while you farm, and know which corridor you will leave by before you start. The wiki notes that each Sinner's Sacrifice in the Sunken Plaza counts as its own camp, separate from the nearby Haunts.
| Jackpot | District | Main risk | Main counterplay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bell Tower | Chinatown | The bell announces you to the map | Clear fast with heavy melees, leave before the bell can ring again |
| Sunken Plaza | Plaza | No vision or sound in the fog, and stamina drains | Enter with full stamina and plan your exit corridor |
Haunts change from district to district
The neutral camps were reworked in the same update and renamed Haunts, and the video makes the point that different parts of the map now have different creatures. Valve's patch page pairs each location with a haunt family, for example Past Dues around Umbria University (shown at 0:54), Stage Hands in the Theater, and Gutter Ghouls by the York docks.
The wiki groups Haunts into small, medium and large camps that share base values: 129, 322 and 1133 health, worth 41, 68 and 181 souls. Each family has its own special attack, though. Two you will meet early:
- Gutter Ghouls throw toxic waste that leaves a damaging puddle.
- Barrel Mimics (medium and large only) use an exploding area attack.
This guide only covers where Haunts live on the map. Camp routes and soul timings belong in a farming guide.
Getting around: ziplines, teleporters and steam vents
Knowing the districts only helps if you can move between them quickly. The wiki lists these map features:
- Ziplines: one per lane, in the lane's color. How far yours reaches depends on how far your Troopers have pushed, so a glance at the ziplines tells you which lane is losing.
- Teleporters: four in total, linked in pairs, for crossing to the other side of the map. There is a short wind-up, so don't use one with an enemy right behind you.
- Steam Vents (new in City Never Sleeps): stand on one to turn invisible, become untargetable by targeted abilities and items, and regenerate a little health.
- Juke Rooms: dead-end rooms marked by a shadowy figure in the doorway. They are good for hiding or ambushes, and a trap when you are the one running away.
- Ropes, jump pads and tunnel vents: ropes take you up to rooftops, jump pads (air vents) push you sideways, and only certain heroes such as Rat King and Rem can travel through the tunnel vents.
- Healing Snacks (also new): winged green glass apples hidden in high or hard-to-reach spots, worth a small heal.
Deadlock map callouts cheat sheet
free These are the callouts worth memorizing in your first week on the new map. Use the names your team uses. Where the wiki and Valve's patch page disagree, both names are listed.
| Area | Type | Next to | Callouts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Broadway | Middle lane (blue) | All four districts | Uptown, Times Square, Downtown; Midboss under Times Square |
| Greenwich | Side lane (green, "Park") | Theater, Chinatown | Umbria University, Central Park, The Brownstones |
| York | Side lane (yellow) | Haunted Lot, Plaza | Stock Exchange, Shipyard Docks ("Seaport Dock"), Fairfax Factories ("Old Fairfax Factories") |
| Theater District | District, Archmother side | Greenwich | Glass dome, auditorium |
| Chinatown District | District, Hidden King side | Greenwich | Bell Tower |
| Haunted Lot District | District, Hidden King side | York | Basketball court, garage doubles |
| Plaza District | District, Archmother side | York | Fairfax Industries statue, Sunken Plaza |
Two habits help the most. Say the location as well as the lane ("two in Central Park", not "two Greenwich"), and say which team's side a district is on, because each district only exists on one side of the map.
How this guide was fact-checked
- Source video: Cyruzz, "Deadlock Just Changed FOREVER - Everything You Need to Know", uploaded 2026-09-30, one day after City Never Sleeps. It is a full update overview, and only its map section (about 0:20 to 2:00) was used. The video's map section is short and names locations without explaining them, so most of the detail here comes from the wiki.
- From the video's on-screen footage: Valve's patch page with the Broadway, Greenwich, Theater and York cards (0:25 to 1:10), and gameplay with the minimap confirming Chinatown (1:12), Greenwich/Central Park (1:17), Theater with a Stage Hand (1:27) and the Haunted Lot basketball court (1:32).
- From deadlock.wiki (Cursed Apple, Haunt and Update pages, checked 2026-10-19): lane and district names, which district sits next to which lane, the Bell Tower and Sunken Plaza mechanics, the Midboss respawn times, the Soul Urn and Unstable Rift rules, the Haunt tier values, and the map features. The wiki flags its own match-timings table as needing a recheck, so the Soul Urn first spawn time is taken from its map icon table instead.
- Corrections and clarifications to the video: the university is Umbria University, not "Umbra University". The video lists Times Square, Chinatown, Theater District, the Stock Exchange and Central Park together as "areas". On the wiki, only Chinatown and Theater are districts; Times Square (Broadway), Central Park (Greenwich) and the Stock Exchange (York) are lane locations. The four districts are Theater, Chinatown, Haunted Lot and Plaza.
- Dropped on purpose: the video's Broker and Corrupted Items section. The Broker was removed from Standard and Ranked on 2026-10-02 (the wiki's undocumented changes), and corrupted items were removed from Street Brawl on 2026-10-04. The video's six-hero and HUD sections are also left out because they are not about the map.
- Not verified: the video shows no footage of the Plaza District or the Bell Tower, so those sections rely on the wiki alone.
What this guide doesn't answer
- Jungle farm routes and soul-per-minute timings: that is a separate farming topic. Here the Haunts are covered only as far as where they live.
- Every Haunt family's stats and special attacks: a dedicated Haunts guide covers them better than a map overview can.
- Midboss and Unstable Rift fight strategy: this guide says where they are and how they work, not how to win the fight.
- Exact Bridge Buff locations: the wiki says only that two "bridges" spawn temporary buffs every 5 minutes and does not place them on the new map.
- Hero-specific routes: tunnel-vent heroes such as Rat King move around the map differently. That belongs in their hero guides.
- The Broker and Corrupted Items: these are no longer in Standard or Ranked, so they are left out.
Frequently asked
What are the lanes on the new Deadlock map?
Since City Never Sleeps (2026-09-29) the map has three color-coded lanes: York (yellow), Broadway (blue, the middle lane) and Greenwich (green, still often called Park). Each lane has three named locations: Uptown, Times Square and Downtown on Broadway; Umbria University, Central Park and The Brownstones on Greenwich; and the Stock Exchange, Shipyard Docks and Fairfax Factories on York.
What are the four districts in Deadlock?
The jungle between the lanes is split into the Theater District and Plaza District on The Archmother's side, and the Chinatown District and Haunted Lot District on The Hidden King's side. Theater and Chinatown border Greenwich, Haunted Lot and Plaza border York, and Broadway touches all four. Districts have no Guardians or Troopers, only Haunts, breakables and Sinner's Sacrifices.
Where is the Bell Tower in Deadlock and how does it work?
The Bell Tower is in the Chinatown District. You enter and leave by a central rope, and the top holds breakables and three Sinner's Sacrifices. Damaging anything up there rings the bell and alerts the whole map. The bell can ring at most once every 30 seconds, and clearing the top with heavy melees takes about 28 seconds, so stay fast.
What is the Sunken Plaza in Deadlock?
The Sunken Plaza is the underground plaza in the Plaza District, below a large Fairfax Industries statue. It holds a big group of Haunts and breakables, but a purple fog blocks sound and vision through its surface, and your stamina drains without regenerating. At 0 stamina you can no longer wall jump, so climb out near the Sinner's Sacrifice boxes or use the underground corridors.
Where is the Midboss on the City Never Sleeps map?
The Midboss is in the sewer directly below Times Square on Broadway, the middle lane, at the center of the map. When it dies it drops a Rejuvenator Crystal either team can claim. Per the wiki it respawns 7 minutes after the first kill, 6 after the second and 5 after each later kill.
