π― The core idea
Ahri wins mid by landing Charm, not by spamming it. Poke with Orb of Deception, keep Charm for the enemy who commits, then turn one hit into a kill with Fox-Fire, Electrocute and Spirit Rush. Her kit hasn't changed on Summoner's Rift since patch 26.6, so the Malignance burst build from Eternal Hero's video still works on patch 26.21.
- free costs nothing
- cheap small cost
- setup needs preparation
- grind pays off slowly
- skip the thing to stop doing
This Ahri guide is built on Eternal Hero's August 2026 video, a full mid lane game against Katarina with commentary, plus part of a second game. The video calls it Season 16; Riot calls the current year Season 2026. Every ability number, rune and item below was checked against the official League of Legends Wiki and the patch notes up to 26.21. Where the video gets something wrong, we say so in the text.
Why Ahri is still a strong mid pick in patch 26.21
free Ahri is a burst mage with three dashes on her ultimate. That makes her one of the safest champions in mid lane and one of the easiest to recommend at any rank. She clears waves from range, heals from her passive, and can go from even to a kill in one Charm. The wiki lists her as a Burst mage with damage 3, mobility 3 and toughness 1 out of 3. She hits hard and runs well, but she dies fast if she gets caught.
Her 2026 changes on Summoner's Rift are small and all happened before the video was recorded:
| Patch | Change |
|---|---|
| 26.3 | Fox-Fire cooldown lowered to 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 seconds (from 10 / 9 / 8 / 7 / 6) |
| 26.6 | Orb of Deception damage per pass lowered to 35 / 60 / 85 / 110 / 135 (from 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140) |
| 26.7 to 26.21 | No Summoner's Rift changes to Ahri |
The patch 26.17 notes do list Ahri nerfs (less health and a longer ultimate cooldown), but those changes are for League Classic, the separate mode with older champion versions. They don't affect normal or ranked Ahri on Summoner's Rift.
Ahri abilities with current numbers
free These are the wiki's current values. Ahri is a beginner-friendly champion, and if you're new to her, learn three numbers first: Charm has 1000 range, a 12 second cooldown, and Spirit Rush gives three dashes within 15 seconds.
| Ability | What it does | Key numbers |
|---|---|---|
| Essence Theft (passive) | Heals after 9 minion or monster kills, and after a champion takedown within 3 seconds of damaging them | 35β95 (+20% AP) from minions; 75β165 (+30% AP) from a takedown |
| Q, Orb of Deception | Orb goes out as magic damage, comes back as true damage | 35 / 60 / 85 / 110 / 135 (+50% AP) per pass, 900 range, 7 s cooldown |
| W, Fox-Fire | Three flames hit nearby visible enemies; you gain 40% move speed that decays over 2 s | 40β120 (+40% AP) first flame, later flames on the same target 40%; 9β5 s cooldown, 30 mana |
| E, Charm | Kiss hits the first enemy, charms them toward you and slows them by 65% | 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+85% AP), 1.2β1.8 s, 1000 range, 12 s cooldown |
| R, Spirit Rush | Dash, then bolts hit up to 3 nearby visible enemies; recast twice within 15 s | 75 / 125 / 175 (+35% AP) per bolt, 140 / 120 / 100 s cooldown |
Two details matter in real fights. Fox-Fire flames go first to a champion you've charmed, then to other champions, then to minions it would kill. A takedown during Spirit Rush adds time to the recast window and gives one extra dash, up to 3 stored. That is how Ahri chains a kill into a second kill.
Ahri combos: from the short trade to the one shot combo
free Every Ahri combo starts from the same rule: Charm first if you can, because a charmed enemy walks toward you and gets hit by both passes of the orb. These are the Ahri combos worth learning, from short trade to full burst:
| Combo | Keys | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Short trade | Q, then auto attack, walk back | Poke when the enemy last-hits; the orb's return pass is true damage |
| Charm trade | E, Q, W | Any time Charm lands in lane; three abilities proc Electrocute |
| Ahri one shot combo | E, Q, W, R, R, R, plus Ignite | After level 6 on a target in Charm range |
| Dash-in engage | R toward them, E point blank, Q, W, R | Target is outside Charm range or behind minions |
| Flash Charm | E, then Flash right away | Charm fires from where you end up after Flash |
The Flash Charm works because of a rule on the wiki: Charm and Orb of Deception cast from wherever Ahri stands when their 0.25 second cast time ends. Press E, then Flash during the cast, and the kiss fires from the Flash spot at a new angle. Eternal Hero ends the video with an E and Flash in the enemy base.
For the one shot combo, the order matters less than the timing. Electrocute triggers on three separate hits within 3 seconds, so E, Q and W trigger it on their own. Each Spirit Rush hit then also creates Malignance's burn zone (see the build section). Against a target below 40% health, Shadowflame makes all of it crit for 120%.
Ahri charm: how to land it and when to hold it
setup The most useful Ahri tips in the video are about Charm. After a missed charm on Katarina, Eternal Hero says he should have used it earlier. A little later he does the opposite. He holds Charm, auto attacks and waits, because Katarina is so focused on dodging the kiss that she walks into everything else. Ahri's charm threatens the enemy even when she doesn't cast it.
How to get more charms to hit:
- Throw it when they commit. The best timings are when the enemy dashes in, steps up to last-hit a minion, or gets stuck in a cast animation.
- Check the minion line. Charm hits the first enemy, so a minion in the way stops it. On the wiki it's also a projectile, which means Yasuo's Wind Wall and similar effects block it.
- Keep it for self-defense against assassins. If you Charm first and miss, a Katarina, Zed or Fizz has 12 seconds to fight you without it.
- Use Spirit Rush to change the angle. A dash to the side of a minion wave opens a clean line.
skip Throwing Charm into a full minion wave just to poke. That's a 12 second cooldown spent on nothing.
Best Ahri build for patch 26.21: Electrocute runes
cheap The Ahri runes below are the page Eternal Hero shows at the start of the video, which he recorded on patch 26.15β26.16. None of these runes changed in patches 26.16 to 26.21, so the page still works on 26.21.
| Slot | Rune | What it gives (wiki) |
|---|---|---|
| Keystone | Electrocute | 70β260 (+10% bonus AD) (+5% AP) after 3 hits on a champion within 3 s, 20 s cooldown |
| Domination | Taste of Blood | Heal of 16β43 (+5% AP) when you damage a champion, 20 s cooldown |
| Domination | Grisly Mementos | 6 trinket haste per champion takedown, up to 18 stacks |
| Domination | Ultimate Hunter | 6 ultimate haste, +5 per unique champion takedown, up to 31 |
| Sorcery | Manaflow Band | +25 max mana per ability hit on a champion (15 s cooldown), up to 250 |
| Sorcery | Transcendence | +5 ability haste at levels 5 and 8; from level 11, a takedown lowers basic ability cooldowns by 20% |
| Shards | Attack speed, adaptive force, health | 10% attack speed, 9 adaptive force, 10β180 health |
Summoner spells in the video are Flash and Ignite. He uses Ignite on Amumu and on low-health targets in lane.
Ahri Electrocute or First Strike? The video only plays Electrocute, and it fits his style: he fights early, and a Charm combo triggers it every time. First Strike is the other choice players ask about. On the wiki, if you hit a champion first, it adds 7% bonus true damage for 3 seconds and gives part of that bonus damage back as gold. It goes on cooldown without doing anything if the enemy hits you first. That makes it better for a careful, poke-first lane where you scale on gold. For a beginner who wants kills, Electrocute is easier to use. One more point from the video: Eternal Hero notes that most Ahri players don't take Gathering Storm, even though it would scale his late-game damage.
Ahri items: Malignance first, then burst
grind Here is the best Ahri build from the video's item graphic, in his order. Prices and stats are from the wiki, and none of these items changed in patches 26.16 to 26.21.
| Order | Item | Cost | Why Ahri wants it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Malignance | 2700 | 90 AP, 15 ability haste, 600 mana, 20 ultimate haste. Ultimate damage creates a burn zone (180 (+15% AP) over 3 s) that also lowers magic resist by 10 |
| 2 | Sorcerer's Shoes | 1100 | 12 magic penetration, 45 move speed; becomes Spellslinger's Shoes when your mid quest completes |
| 3 | Shadowflame | 3200 | 110 AP, 15 magic penetration; magic and true damage crit for 120% on targets below 40% health |
| 4 | Rabadon's Deathcap | 3500 | 130 AP and +30% total AP |
| 5 | Zhonya's Hourglass | 3250 | 105 AP, 50 armor, 2.5 s stasis (120 s cooldown) |
| 6 | Void Staff | 3000 | 95 AP, 40% magic penetration |
Malignance fits Ahri well. Each Spirit Rush hit counts as ultimate damage, so three dashes can create burn zones under several enemies. Shadowflame's crit includes true damage, so the return pass of the orb also crits on low-health targets.
These are the core Ahri items, but the last two are flexible. Zhonya's armor and stasis are what you want against assassins and dive. Void Staff is for when the enemy buys magic resist. The 17:09 shop frame shows him buying Rabadon's at 15/2/3, ahead of the graphic's order, because he was far ahead. It's a good reminder that when you're snowballing, you buy damage.
Dark Seal, Mejai's and when to buy boots
cheap The first game starts with Doran's Ring and two Health Potions, with Flash and Ignite. Eternal Hero then picks up Dark Seal early and calls it the best early item for Ahri. You can see it in his second-game inventory with 4 stacks, next to Lost Chapter and Boots.
| Item | Cost | Stacking (wiki) |
|---|---|---|
| Dark Seal | 350 | 15 AP, 50 health; +2 stacks per kill, +1 per assist, 4 AP per stack up to 10 (40 AP); lose 5 stacks on death |
| Mejai's Soulstealer | 1500 | 20 AP, 100 health; +4 per kill, +2 per assist, 5 AP per stack up to 25 (125 AP); 10% move speed at 10+ stacks; lose 10 on death |
His reasoning in the first game is worth copying. He finishes Malignance before upgrading Dark Seal, because the core item matters more. Then he weighs Mejai's against boots based on how safe he feels: he delays boots while he's ahead and not at risk of dying, and buys them once the game gets riskier. Mejai's is a bet on staying alive. If you're behind or keep dying, skip it and buy a normal item.
Ahri laning: level 1 to 6 against an assassin
free Eternal Hero takes W at level 1 (the HUD shows one rank in Fox-Fire), then uses his first hits to trigger Electrocute. After the first trade he waits for Electrocute to come back before he trades again. Against assassins he takes E second so he has Charm to stop their engage. By level 8 in the second game his HUD shows four ranks in Q, two in W and one in E. That's the standard order: max Q, then W, then E, and put points in R at 6, 11 and 16.
Why Q first: Orb of Deception is your wave clear and most of your damage. Fox-Fire's ranks lower its cooldown from 9 to 5 seconds, which is why it's the second max. Charm's ranks only add damage and duration.
Ahri laning in the video follows a simple pattern:
- Stack the wave, then zone. Once he has a bigger wave, he steps forward and pokes, so Katarina has to choose between last-hitting and taking orb damage.
- Let minions drop low before you use Q. He lets enemy minions get low so one orb finishes several at once.
- Take plates after a kill or a recall. He hits the plate every time Katarina leaves lane.
For freezing, slow pushing and crashing, see our wave management guide. For general mid lane trading and recall timing, see the mid lane guide.
Wave control with Orb of Deception and Fox-Fire
free Ahri clears from range, which keeps her safe while she pushes. At level 1, an orb hits each minion for 70 (+100% AP) total, half as magic damage going out and half as true damage coming back. Throw it at max range through the back of the wave so both passes hit as many minions as possible.
The video gets one detail wrong. Eternal Hero says W executes minions below 20% health. The wiki says Fox-Fire deals double damage to minions below 20% max health, and flames prefer minions they would kill. It's still very good for last-hitting under turret, but it doesn't execute.
skip Clearing the wave and staying in lane with nothing to do. The point of a fast push is to move first, whether that means roaming, going to the river, or recalling. Leaving the enemy to farm alone gives that tempo away.
Surviving early ganks as Ahri
setup In the first minutes the enemy jungler ganks mid with Katarina much earlier than expected, and the video admits a ward would have spotted it. Ahri still ends the fight 2/1/0 at 3:37 near the river brush. Eternal Hero then says that since the enemy Amumu will gank him a lot, he has to change how he plays.
Practical rules for Ahri's early game:
- Ward the side you push toward once the jungler can reach you. Before level 6 Ahri has no dash.
- Use W to run, not just for damage. The 40% move speed decays over 2 seconds, so cast it the moment you see danger. Late in the first game he notes he was glad he pressed W before the enemy's crowd control hit.
- Keep Charm for the jungler if they come through the river. A charmed Amumu walks the wrong way.
- Once you have R, you have three escapes. Spend one dash to get away from the gank and keep two to come back if your team turns the fight.
Mid quest spike and Ahri roaming
free At around 11 minutes in the first game, the chat shows "Mid Quest Complete!", just before Ahri takes the first turret of the game. That's the mid role quest paying out all at once: Sorcerer's Shoes upgrade for free into Spellslinger's Shoes (8% plus 20 flat magic penetration, 45 move speed, with the flat pen raised from 18 in patch 26.16), and Ahri gets 8% bonus AD and AP for the rest of the game. Since patch 26.9 the mid quest no longer gives an empowered recall. Our mid lane guide explains how the 1,350 quest points fill up.
Ahri roaming works best right after this spike, and it needs a pushed wave first:
- Push the wave into the enemy turret with Q and W.
- Walk into the river while the enemy mid laner has to stay and clear.
- Use Charm from fog of war. The target often can't see the kiss coming.
- Spirit Rush makes it easy to reach a fight across the map and get back out.
In the video he follows up on his jungler's fights and chases kills into the jungle when he has the push. Remember that time out of lane costs quest points before the quest is done, so the best time for big roams is after the quest completes. Before that, roam only on a clear kill or an objective.
Ahri teamfights and Spirit Rush resets
setup In Ahri teamfights, you're a pick-and-cleanup champion, not a front line. Wait for the enemy to use their engage, then Charm the first target you can reach. Save one Spirit Rush dash for after a kill, because the takedown gives you an extra dash and refreshes the window.
Two rules the video points out:
- Your burst needs vision. Eternal Hero notes that without vision of a target, his W didn't deal damage, so his first dash on Amumu did nothing. The wiki confirms that Fox-Fire flames and Spirit Rush bolts only go to visible enemies. Ward or sweep before you dash into brush.
- Passive heals reward clean-up. If an enemy you damaged dies within 3 seconds, Essence Theft heals you for 75β165 (+30% AP). It works even on assist kills.
He also admits that a fed Ahri can't carry alone. At one point no one on his team is holding the side lanes, and he says the team needs to focus on objectives and catch enemies one at a time instead of taking pointless fights.
Ahri matchups and counters
setup The video covers only one full matchup, Katarina, and he wins it by holding Charm and zoning her off the wave. He gets ahead to 10/1/1 by 10:29, as the scoreboard shows. For other Ahri matchups, what matters is the kind of champion she faces:
| Enemy type | How it goes | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Melee assassins (Katarina, Zed, Fizz) | Ahri is favored if she holds Charm | Take E second, keep Charm for their engage, buy Zhonya's earlier |
| Projectile blockers (Yasuo, Samira) | Hard: Wind Wall blocks Charm, Orb and Fox-Fire | Bait the wall first, then Charm; see our Yasuo guide for his side |
| Long-range mages (Xerath, Vel'Koz) | They out-poke her | Farm safely, use W speed to dodge, all-in after 6 |
| Tanky champions with crowd control (Galio) | Hard to kill, punish her missed Charm | Play for side lane and picks, not lane kills |
The Ahri counters in this table are based on her kit, not on win rate data. The video doesn't give a tier list, and neither do we.
How this guide was fact-checked
- Video: Eternal Hero, "S+ HOW TO PLAY AHRI MID & ONE-SHOT GUIDE (22 KILLS)", uploaded 2026-08-11, the same day patch 26.16 went live, so it was most likely recorded on 26.15. Runes, item order, level 1 W, E second against assassins, Doran's Ring start, Flash and Ignite, the Dark Seal timing, the quest-complete moment and the Katarina/Amumu examples all come from the video's own screens and commentary.
- Official League of Legends Wiki: every ability number (Ahri page, as of patch 26.06), the rune text for Electrocute, Taste of Blood, Grisly Mementos, Ultimate Hunter, Manaflow Band, Transcendence and First Strike, and the item stats and prices for Malignance, Sorcerer's and Spellslinger's Shoes, Shadowflame, Rabadon's, Zhonya's, Void Staff, Dark Seal, Mejai's and Doran's Ring.
- Patch notes 26.1 to 26.21: Ahri's Summoner's Rift changes in 26.3 and 26.6; the 26.17 Ahri changes are League Classic only; Spellslinger's flat magic penetration went from 18 to 20 in 26.16; mid quest rewards changed in 26.9 and 26.11. No changes to the build's items or runes in 26.16 to 26.21.
- Corrections to the video: Fox-Fire doubles its damage on minions below 20% health and doesn't execute them. "No vision means no W damage" is right, and it also applies to Spirit Rush bolts. The video says Season 16; Riot's name is Season 2026.
- Ours, not the video's: the combo table naming, the First Strike comparison, and the matchup table by champion type.
What this guide doesn't answer
- Ahri support or ARAM Mayhem builds: the video is mid lane only, and Mayhem augments change the build.
- Matchup-by-matchup win rates: numbers change every patch, and the video shows only one lane opponent.
- Skins: cosmetic choices are out of scope for a gameplay guide.
- Full mid lane macro: roaming timers, the quest point table and side lane rules are in our mid lane guide.
- League Classic Ahri: that mode uses an older kit with its own 26.17 numbers.
Frequently asked
What is the best Ahri build in 2026?
For patch 26.21, the build from Eternal Hero's video is Electrocute with Taste of Blood, Grisly Mementos and Ultimate Hunter, plus Manaflow Band and Transcendence. Start Doran's Ring and two potions, with Flash and Ignite. Items: Malignance, Sorcerer's Shoes, Shadowflame, Rabadon's Deathcap, Zhonya's Hourglass, then Void Staff. Pick up Dark Seal early and upgrade it to Mejai's if you stay alive. None of these runes or items changed from patch 26.16 to 26.21.
What is Ahri's one shot combo?
After level 6, Charm (E) the target, then throw Orb of Deception (Q) so both passes hit, use Fox-Fire (W), and dash in with Spirit Rush (R) twice more, adding Ignite if they are low. E, Q and W are three separate hits, so they trigger Electrocute. Each Spirit Rush hit creates Malignance's burn zone, and Shadowflame makes all of the damage crit for 120% against targets below 40% health.
Should Ahri take Electrocute or First Strike?
Electrocute is the simpler choice and the one the video uses: three separate hits within 3 seconds deal 70-260 bonus damage on a 20 second cooldown, and a Charm combo always triggers it. First Strike adds 7% bonus true damage for 3 seconds and pays part of that back as gold, but only if you hit first. It suits careful, poke-first lanes better than a beginner looking for kills.
How do you land Ahri's Charm more often?
Throw Charm when the enemy commits: when they dash in, step up to last-hit, or are stuck in a cast. It hits the first enemy, so minions block it, and Yasuo's Wind Wall blocks it too. Against assassins, hold it as self-defense, because missing gives them 12 seconds to fight you without it. You can also cast E and then Flash right away, and the kiss fires from your new position.
What skill do you max first on Ahri?
Max Q first, W second and E last, with R at 6, 11 and 16. Eternal Hero takes W at level 1 and E second against assassins so he can stop their engage. Q is your wave clear and most of your damage. W's ranks lower its cooldown from 9 to 5 seconds, while E's ranks only add damage and charm duration.
