🎯 The core idea
The Doorman wins games on the new map by owning space, not by topping the damage chart. Put two points in Luggage Cart and two in Doorway early, buy range plus Guardian Ward before 5,000 souls, and park doors next to Sinner's Sacrifice camps, rift points and walkers so your team arrives first and leaves safely. Call Bell slows, Cart drags, Hotel Guest removes one enemy from the fight.
- free costs nothing
- cheap small cost
- setup needs preparation
- grind pays off slowly
- skip the thing to stop doing
What The Doorman does on the City Never Sleeps map
The Doorman is a spirit-damage support and playmaker. His gun, Service With A Smile, is weak on paper (24 bullet damage, 8 ammo, about 38 DPS at base on the wiki), but its shots pierce: the first target takes full damage and anything behind it takes 50% less. His real value is the kit: a slowing bell, a cart that drags enemies, two linked doors that move his whole team across the map, and an ultimate that sends one enemy to a pocket hotel.
The September 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps update reworked the map, renamed neutrals to Haunts and moved the high-value farm. That changed where doors are worth placing. This Doorman guide follows the door spots Piggy showed in his October 4, 2026 video (made a few days after the rework), then adds what that video skips: ability numbers, upgrades, a full item build and counters, all checked against deadlock.wiki. The wiki lists no Doorman balance changes in the October patches so far; the last entry is a September 29 "bug and abuse cases" fix.
How to play Doorman, in one line: you rarely carry with your gun. You decide where fights happen, who gets to them first, and who gets removed from them.
Doorman abilities and ability upgrades
Numbers below are base values from the deadlock.wiki hero page. The spirit scaling is in brackets.
| Ability | What it does | Key base numbers | Upgrades (1 / 2 / 5 points) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call Bell | Throw a bell that hits on impact, then explodes after a short delay. Enemies caught in it get slowed and lose weapon accuracy | 40 impact (x0.7), 55 explosion (x1.2), -40% weapon accuracy, -28% move speed, 4s debuff, 5.5m radius, 18s cooldown, 7s charge time | +1 charge / +30 impact and +40 explosion damage / +4.5m radius, +26s bell lifetime, better scaling |
| Doorway | Place two connected doors on walls. Players and most projectiles that enter one door come out of the other | 50m cast range, 65m max distance between doors, 15s duration, 45s cooldown | +20s duration / barrier the first time you travel through / +30m cast range, +40m door distance, distance scales with spirit power |
| Luggage Cart | Send a cart that damages and drags enemy heroes along its path. Alt cast targets allies | 60 damage (x0.75), 20m range, 30s cooldown, bonus damage if the dragged target hits a wall | +80 damage / +25m range, +75 wall-impact damage / -15s cooldown, 1.25s stun on wall impact |
| Hotel Guest (ultimate) | After a 1s channel, send the target to the Baroness Hotel. They must reach the exit elevator in time or take extra damage | 7m range, 6.5s check-out time, 75 damage for the stay (x1), 125 for failing to check out (x1.5), 140s cooldown | stamina drain and -20s cooldown / +150 damage, 1.5s stun on failure / you become Unstoppable while the hotel is occupied, 15s cooldown if they fail |
Call Bell. You can shoot or melee the bell to blow it up early. It also slows anyone standing in its radius before it explodes. At 5 points you can keep several bells on the ground at once. The wiki suggests stacking them where your Hotel Guest victim will reappear.
Doorway. Doors only go on vertical surfaces, never on floors, ceilings or slopes. You can't close them for 8 seconds after the second door is placed. If anyone carries the Soul Urn through a door, they drop it at the entrance. Slowing Hex and similar effects don't disable Doorway. Placing a door also breaks Golden Statues and Boxes right next to it, which is a free bit of farm.
Luggage Cart. The cart doesn't stun. It pulls, so dragged enemies can still use abilities and items. Any dispel or Unstoppable drops them off the cart. Since the August 12, 2026 patch, walkers don't target an enemy you're dragging until shortly after the cart drops them. The famous "cart them into the walker" play still works, but the stomp lands a moment after the drop, not during the drag. You can push enemies, or allies, through an open Doorway.
Hotel Guest. During the 1s channel you can barely move and can't do anything else. If you're interrupted or die, the ult still goes on cooldown. Slowing the target before you cast (Call Bell is perfect) makes it harder for them to reach the elevator in time.
Doorman skill order: Cart first, two points in Doorway
Piggy's ability point order, read straight off his saved in-game build:
| Order | Point goes into | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1-2 | Luggage Cart 1, Luggage Cart 2 | More cart damage and range, so you can drag a mid-laner to your Guardian |
| 3-4 | Doorway 1, Doorway 2 | Longer doors plus the travel barrier, ready for the first Sinner's Sacrifice timing |
| 5-7 | Call Bell 1, 2, 5 | Extra charge, damage, then the big radius |
| 8-9 | Luggage Cart 5, Doorway 5 | Shorter cart cooldown with the wall stun, then the long-range doors |
| 10-12 | Hotel Guest 1, 2, 5 | Last, because the ult already works with no points |
In the video, Piggy explains the change. Lanes are played passively now, so early Bell damage is hard to land. Cart points let you drag someone toward your Guardian for chip damage. Taking Doorway to 2 early means your door barrier is ready when Sinner's Sacrifice camps first appear, which the wiki confirms is at 8:00. He maxes Bell over Cart for the AoE accuracy debuff and damage, and doesn't rush the ultimate because he knows the door ranges well enough to get value without it.
A note on his in-game build: it says max Cart costs 14 boons, max Bell 23 and max Door 28. That's his own planning note, not a number from the wiki.
Best Doorman build: items by phase
This Doorman build is Piggy's saved build (titled "Piggy's Doorman"). Every item name below is readable in the frame above, and costs come from deadlock.wiki. His early-game note: buy range items for the door before 5,000 souls so you can invade.
| Phase | Items (cost) | What they do for Doorman |
|---|---|---|
| Early (before ~5k) | High-Velocity Rounds (800) into Opening Rounds (1,600), Grit (800) into Guardian Ward (1,600), Mystic Burst (800), Mystic Expansion (800, imbue on Doorway), Kinetic Dash (1,600) | Opening Rounds adds weapon damage against targets above 50% HP. Guardian Ward gives a 250 barrier, +2.75m move speed and +8% ability range. Mystic Burst adds 40 damage to any ability hit above 80 damage. Mystic Expansion adds +20% range to the imbued ability |
| Lane options | Long Range (1,600), Sharpshooter (3,200) | Piggy says you can take Sharpshooter instead of Mystic Shot if you play further back |
| Core (mid game) | Mystic Shot (1,600), Extra Charge (800) into Rapid Recharge (3,200), Extra Health (800) into Fortitude (3,200), Mystic Burst into Tankbuster (3,200), Guardian Ward into Divine Barrier (6,400), Improved Spirit (1,600) | Fortitude is the new pickup: +375 health, regen once you stop taking damage, and bonus move speed above 75% HP, so you can stay on the map longer. Divine Barrier is a 600 barrier plus a cleanse of non-stun debuffs, and its cooldown is halved when you cast it on an ally |
| Late (buy what you need) | Boundless Spirit, Echo Shard, Cursed Relic, Phantom Strike, Vortex Web, Spirit Burn, Cheat Death, Indomitable (6,400 each); Greater Expansion, Superior Cooldown (3,200 each) | More spirit, range, and cooldowns for doors and bells, plus Cursed Relic or Vortex Web for picks and Indomitable or Cheat Death for survival |
Why this works. With Opening Rounds, Guardian Ward and Mystic Burst, Piggy says you have enough damage at about 4,000 souls to proc Mystic Burst off your bell without Bell 2. In the frame above, his level-1 bell already shows 82 explosion damage. One point in Cart (140 base damage) also clears the 80-damage threshold. For the late game, he rates Divine Barrier very highly: you spend those fights at the back throwing bells and carting people rather than standing in the middle.
skip Don't rush Hotel Guest upgrades or a full gun build. Your souls are worth more as range, barriers and cooldowns.
Chinatown door to contest the Bell Tower
setup This is the first of the Doorman door spots Piggy covers. Put one door in the veil on your side of Chinatown so it stays hidden. With Mystic Expansion on Doorway and the range from Guardian Ward, you can put the other door up at the Bell Tower. Per the wiki, the Bell Tower is one of the two richest soul spots on the map, with three Sinner's Sacrifices at the top ("triples"). It can normally only be entered by its central rope.
The door lets your team take the tower while your exit is a short walk back to friendly ground. The wiki adds a catch: damaging anything at the top rings the bell and alerts the whole map. So expect company, and take the tower when your team can hold the area around it.
Sunken Plaza door through the purple fog
The Sunken Plaza is the underground area full of purple fog. According to the wiki, inside the fog you can't hear or see out, and your stamina slowly drains. Run out and you can't wall-jump; you have to climb out near the sinner boxes or leave through the tunnels. That makes a door one of the best exits from the Plaza.
Piggy shows two placements. One is higher up and slightly hidden. The other, deeper in, is better but only works if your route takes you past it. Either way, you use the door to invade the enemy's Plaza camps. Following his skill order, you arrive with the Doorway 2 barrier plus Guardian Ward, so you can take the camp through its damage.
Haunted Lot doubles: door next to the Healing Snack
free The wiki places a double Sinner's Sacrifice camp ("doubles") in a small garage in the Haunted Lot, toward blue lane. Piggy puts a door right next to a Healing Snack there. Healing Snacks are small winged glass apples that give a quick heal when you pick them up. When you invade the enemy's doubles, you take some damage, step through the door, grab the snack, and use the door barrier and Guardian Ward. In the video, he takes the camp with barely any health lost. He also points out that the camp's melee attacks can be parried. Shown here: Piggy using Guardian Ward next to the Sinner's Sacrifice machine.
He also mentions a smaller spot nearby "for a little snack": a door next to a second Healing Snack. It's cheap value on any route you already walk.
Theater escape door near Times Square
For the theater, Piggy uses an easy placement that links back to your own side of the map (the minimap there reads Broadway: Times Square). Farm the area, and if you get jumped, step through the door. You come out inside a veil and can walk away.
This is the general rule for all your farming doors. One end sits where the souls are, and the other sits somewhere enemies can't follow you safely. A door you don't need is still a door they can't predict.
Doorman door spots for lanes, rifts and walkers
Laning doors haven't changed much: drop one in front of your own Guardian. The new parts are rift and push doors.
- Unstable Rift on York (yellow). Per the wiki, the Unstable Rift spawns on Park (green) or York (yellow), and an enemy standing in it keeps the capture below 100%. Piggy places a door so its far end is under the walker, which keeps you in range to contest the rift. The same spot works for pushing York.
- Pushing mid (Broadway) walkers. Put the door in a nearby veil, loop around in the lane to hit the walker, then take the door back into the veil.
- Greenwich (green). He puts the door next to the healing pickup on both sides. Push the walker, and if you get jumped, go through, heal and land on high ground. When pushing the far side, he also uses a door close to the walker so you can walk in deep and leave by your own path.
- York walker. York is the easiest walker to push with doors. Put one door on the high corner above the jump pad. You can shoot the walker while standing inside your door and step out when it's time to leave, with the jump pad as a second escape.
On the right, the minimap reads York: Docks in the rift-spot frame. Piggy pushed every one of these on an empty practice server, so treat the exact positions as starting points and adjust to the map's sight lines in real games.
Mid and Midboss doors
Piggy's mid doors are about reaching the Midboss pit before the other team:
- A side door that takes you close to the buff. If enemies contest you, you can Cart them toward your walker from there.
- A deeper door that works from either side. It lets you invade the enemy's camp nearby and, if they chase you, Cart them toward your walker.
- An even deeper door that lets you invade the enemy's Sinner's Sacrifice camps directly and covers almost the whole Midboss pit.
- His favorite for Midboss is the one respawning teammates can see. They step into the door and come out at the pit right away. He says you don't need any range items for this one.
He also covers a common Greenwich door next to the Guardian. One option sits by the jump pad, but he avoids it because it doesn't get you as deep: you want to be close enough to shoot the walker.
Doorman tips for teamfights and the late game
- Fight from the back. By the late game, Piggy is mostly throwing bells and sending carts from range, and using Divine Barrier on whoever gets jumped. In the frame above, Divine Barrier is in his item bar while he fights from beside his own door.
- cheap Call out your doors. In his matches you can hear him saying "look door" before big plays. A door only helps a team that knows it's there.
- Cart into walls. At 5 points, a cart that hits a wall stuns for 1.25s, and walls also add the T2 bonus damage. Aim along streets that end in a building.
- Bell before you ult. The 1s Hotel Guest channel at 7m range is your riskiest moment. Slow the target first, ult while they're slowed, and stack bells where they'll come back out.
- Push the Urn carrier through a door. Anyone carrying the Soul Urn through a door drops it at the entrance. If you Cart the carrier through, they drop it at the exit door instead.
His finished game ended in a win: 7 kills, 7 deaths, 19 assists, 48k player damage, 9.5k objective damage and 35k healing on the scoreboard, from a build that never focused on damage.
Doorman counter: how to beat him
If The Doorman is on the other team, this is what the wiki says actually works:
- Dispel or Unstoppable the cart. Any dispel drops you off the cart immediately, and Unstoppable also stops future carts. Debuff resist shortens Call Bell's slow and accuracy loss, but not the slow from standing in an unexploded bell.
- Block or dodge Hotel Guest. Counterspell blocks it, and being invincible (Ethereal Shift, for example) avoids the damage. Interrupting him during the 1s channel still puts his ultimate on cooldown. Indomitable cleanses the ult too. Stay out of 7m and he can't cast it at all.
- Escape the hotel fast. Head straight for the exit elevator. If you don't make it in 6.5s, you take more damage and, against Hotel Guest 2, a stun.
- Watch his doors. Doors are only on vertical surfaces, last 15s at base and can't be closed for 8s after placement. A door near your Sinner's Sacrifice camps means an invasion is coming.
- Stay off walls in long lanes. Against Cart 5, a wall hit is a stun.
How this guide was fact-checked
- Wiki (deadlock.wiki, checked October 19, 2026): every ability number, upgrade, cooldown and interaction; item costs and stats (Guardian Ward, Divine Barrier, Mystic Burst, Mystic Expansion, Opening Rounds, Fortitude, Tankbuster and the late items); map facts about Chinatown's Bell Tower, the Sunken Plaza fog, Haunted Lot doubles, Healing Snacks, the Unstable Rift, and the 8:00 Sinner's Sacrifice spawn; and the patch history (July 28 and August 12 nerfs, the September 29 bug fix, nothing for Doorman in October).
- Video (Piggy, "DOORMAN IS S+ ON THE NEW MAP IN DEADLOCK", October 4, 2026): all door spots, the ability point order and the item build, both read from his on-screen build, plus his reasoning and the end-of-game scoreboard. The door spots weren't something the wiki documents, so they're attributed to the video.
- Second sources: Piggy's "How I Use Doorman to Carry Games" (October 10, 2026) and peter's "Showing #1 and #2 How I Play DOORMAN" (October 11, 2026) were checked for an updated build. Both are commentary-free gameplay, so they add no build claims.
- Corrections and clarifications: Piggy's spoken item names are given by their real names (Opening Rounds, Kinetic Dash, Divine Barrier). His "cart them into your walker" advice still works, but since August 12 the walker waits until shortly after the cart drops the target. His boon costs for maxing abilities are his own notes, not wiki numbers.
What this guide doesn't answer
- Exact door coordinates for every map spot. The video shows the spots in a practice match, and wall layouts are easier to learn from the frames and a custom game than from text.
- Hero tier rankings. Whether Doorman is "S+" belongs in the Deadlock tier list, not here.
- Street Brawl. The wiki lists separate Doorman ability changes and an item draft for that mode; this guide covers standard matches only.
- Matchup-by-matchup advice. The counters section covers general tools. Specific hero matchups change with every balance patch.
Frequently asked
What is the best Doorman build in Deadlock right now?
Early, buy High-Velocity Rounds into Opening Rounds, Grit into Guardian Ward, Mystic Burst, Mystic Expansion on Doorway and Kinetic Dash, ideally before 5,000 souls. Mid game, add Mystic Shot, Rapid Recharge, Fortitude, Tankbuster, Improved Spirit and Divine Barrier. Late, pick from Boundless Spirit, Echo Shard, Cursed Relic, Vortex Web, Superior Cooldown, Indomitable or Cheat Death depending on the game.
What is the Doorman skill order?
Unlock all four abilities, then put two points in Luggage Cart, two in Doorway, max Call Bell, then finish Luggage Cart, then Doorway, and put Hotel Guest upgrades last. Doorway 2 gives a barrier the first time you travel through a door, ready for when Sinner's Sacrifice camps first spawn at 8:00.
Where should I place Doorman doors on the new map?
Good City Never Sleeps spots: a hidden veil door linked to the top of the Chinatown Bell Tower (needs Mystic Expansion and Guardian Ward range), the Sunken Plaza fog, next to the Healing Snack by the Haunted Lot doubles, under the walker to contest the Unstable Rift on York, and a Midboss door that respawning teammates can see and use.
How far can Doorman doors be placed apart?
On deadlock.wiki, Doorway has a 50m cast range and the two doors can be up to 65m apart, down from 70m in the August 12, 2026 patch. Doorway 5 adds +30m cast range and +40m door distance, and the distance scales with spirit power. Doors last 15s at base, can only go on vertical surfaces, and can't be closed for 8s after placement.
How do you counter Doorman in Deadlock?
Any dispel or Unstoppable drops you off Luggage Cart. Counterspell blocks Hotel Guest, invincibility like Ethereal Shift avoids its damage, and interrupting his 1s channel still puts the ultimate on cooldown. Stay more than 7m from him to avoid the ult, run straight for the hotel exit within 6.5s, and avoid walls when he has Cart 5, because a wall hit stuns.
