🎯 The core idea
Baba is a spirit disruptor who plays like an aggressive support. Land Threadsap early to steal enemy Spirit and charge your gun, use Granny Long Legs for speed and a ground-pound stomp, pick the right Baba's Brew for the fight, and finish with Feed The Birds. After the October 14, 2026 nerf her cooldowns are a little longer, so every cast needs a purpose.
- free costs nothing
- cheap small cost
- setup needs preparation
- grind pays off slowly
- skip the thing to stop doing
Who Baba is in Deadlock and what changed on October 14
Baba joined Deadlock on October 6, 2026 as part of the City Never Sleeps hero rollout. The wiki describes her as a hexing, spirit-draining witch who fights from a long-legged bench. Her kit does three jobs: it steals enemy Spirit to make her stronger, it disrupts with knockups, silences and slows, and it buffs allies with barriers.
This deadlock baba guide is based on a video uploaded on October 10, four days before Baba's first balance pass. The wiki's update history lists these October 14 nerfs, and every number below already uses the new values:
| Change on Oct 14, 2026 | Old | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Threadsap cooldown | 26s | 28s |
| Granny Long Legs cooldown | 30s | 32s |
| Baba's Brew cooldown | 25s | 27s |
| Soothing Brew barrier | 100 (1.2 spirit scaling) | 90 (0.7 spirit scaling) |
| Base bullet resist | 0% | -7% |
| Spirit resist scaling | 0.12 | 0.1 |
The patch also made Threadsap's Spirit reduction end when Baba dies, moved the Brew cooldown upgrade to tier 2, and trimmed some Granny Long Legs movement tech (more on that below). The video quotes the old cooldowns. Where they differ, this guide uses the wiki.
Her base stats are modest: 780 health (+45 per level), 6.5 m/s move speed and a 15-round gun. There is no deadlock baba tier ranking from Valve, and a hero this new moves around community tier lists every patch, so this guide focuses on how to play her well rather than where she ranks.
Threadsap, the ability that powers everything else
Threadsap throws a scraggly thread that follows your crosshair, then bursts along its whole path. Every enemy on the path takes spirit damage and loses Spirit, and Baba gains that Spirit at 175% effectiveness. While she holds stolen Spirit, every bullet she fires deals bonus spirit damage. A timer next to your crosshair shows how long the stolen Spirit lasts. Steal more before it runs out and both the timer and the bonus grow.
Current wiki values: 35 m range, 28s cooldown, 50 damage, 10 Spirit stolen per hit, +8 spirit damage per bullet, a 22s debuff and a cap of 45 Spirit stolen. The video calls the ability "Thread Snap", but the in-game and wiki name is Threadsap, and the video's 26-second cooldown is the pre-nerf value.
| Upgrade | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 1 point | +8 spirit damage per bullet |
| Tier 2 | 2 points | -12s cooldown, +8s debuff duration |
| Tier 3 | 5 points | +1 charge, and hits pull enemies 7 m toward you |
free Aim the thread so it crosses several enemies at once. One cast that crosses three heroes steals three times the Spirit and weakens all three. The video's creator calls this her most important ability, and the advice is to land it on heroes early in every fight. The tier 3 pull is strong in a chase: it can drag a low-health target back into your team's range.
Baba's gun: the Bunko-Night Special
Baba's weapon fires three pellets per shot in a spread, with 15 ammo and a 2.5-second reload. The video says damage drops off noticeably past about 20 m. The wiki puts the falloff range at 15 m to 42 m, so damage starts to drop a little earlier than the video suggests and keeps falling out to 42 m. The wiki also notes that a shot deals the same bullet damage however many of its pellets hit, which matches the video's test where the spread could clip two targets for the same amount each.
setup The gun is weak on its own. Its real damage comes from the bonus spirit damage per bullet you get after a Threadsap hit. Treat a landed thread as your signal to step in to close range and shoot. Without stolen Spirit, stay back and wait for the next cast.
Granny Long Legs: speed, a kick and a ground-pound stomp
Granny Long Legs extends the bench's legs for 10 seconds. You get +5 m/s move speed, higher jumps, 30% Debuff Resist and 30% Melee Resist, and your melee changes:
- Light melee becomes a kick that knocks enemies back 10 m. Use it to peel a diver off your carry.
- Heavy melee becomes a ground pound that deals 75 spirit damage, knocks enemies up and slows them by 50% for 4 seconds. If you are already airborne you go straight into the stomp.
- Hold crouch to charge a high jump, then release. You must be on the ground to start charging.
The cooldown is now 32s (the video's 30s is the pre-nerf value). Upgrades: tier 1 adds +2.5 m/s move speed, for 7.5 total as the video says; tier 2 cuts 7s off the cooldown; tier 3 adds +15% to both resists (45% total) and 50% melee lifesteal.
skip Don't throw the stomp into a ready opponent. The wiki confirms both the kick and the ground pound can be parried. A parried kick stuns Baba, while a parried stomp does not. Also note that heavy melee has roughly three times its normal cooldown while the ability is active, so make your one stomp count.
High jumps and movement tech after the nerf
free The charged high jump reaches rooftops and ledges that most heroes can't reach without a zipline. The video's creator says few Baba players use it enough. It is the best way to take an unexpected angle on a fight or to escape over a building.
Some of the slope and ledge tech in the video is weaker now. The October 14 patch states that repeated light melees in the air lose forward momentum, a light melee no longer lifts you as high when looking up, and the ground pound no longer gains horizontal speed when you land on a slope. The basic charged jump is unchanged.
Two quirks from the wiki are worth knowing. You can't slide or mantle-glide during Granny Long Legs, because crouch charges the jump instead. And if the ability ends while you are charging, the jump fires anyway and the bench stays extended until you land or three seconds pass.
Baba's Brew: barrier, silence or spirit burn
Baba's Brew cycles through three teas over time. Throw it to apply whichever effect is active in a 6 m area:
| Brew | Effect (wiki values) |
|---|---|
| Soothing Brew | 90 barrier for 8s on allies |
| Silencing Brew | 3s silence on enemies |
| Scalding Brew | 12 spirit damage per second for 8s, plus reduced spirit resist |
Press Zoom (alt-fire by default) to pause or resume brewing, which locks the current tea until you want it. The cooldown is 27s after the nerf (the video says 25s). Tier 1 adds +3 m radius, tier 2 cuts 14s off the cooldown, and tier 3 makes every brew 33.33% stronger. The Oct 14 patch also moved the cooldown upgrade to tier 2.
Which brew to throw, and when
setup The right brew depends on who you're fighting:
- Silencing Brew against heroes who do almost everything through abilities. The video names Yamato, Apollo and Mina as targets worth silencing.
- Scalding Brew right before your team focuses one target with spirit damage, or before your own stomp and charged gun. It's also the easier hit against tanky laners, since it burns over time and lowers spirit resist.
- Soothing Brew on your team as a fight starts. The video's creator throws barriers more often than anything else, because it gives allies a safe reason to commit.
While brewing you can't shoot or cast Threadsap or Feed The Birds. You can still melee, cast Granny Long Legs, parry, use items and ride ziplines, so carrying a ready brew into a fight costs you less than it looks.
Feed The Birds, Baba's ultimate
Feed The Birds channels a cone in front of Baba that covers enemies in bread, with a slow that stacks over time. When the channel ends, pigeons bombard every target with bread on them, dealing spirit damage and hexing each one into a pigeon. More bread means more damage and a longer hex.
Wiki values: 18 m range, 150s cooldown, up to 450 spirit damage, up to 2.75s as a pigeon, 3.5s to reach max stacks and a 32% max slow. The early bread ticks come fast and each one after takes longer, so most of the damage is in the last ticks: eight ticks deal 100%, but five deal only about 38%.
| Upgrade | Effect |
|---|---|
| Tier 1 | +4 m cast range, +32% max slow |
| Tier 2 | -55s cooldown |
| Tier 3 | +125 max damage, more spirit scaling, +0.5s max pigeon duration |
free You need line of sight, so pick the two or three targets that matter instead of trying to catch everyone. An enemy who already has bread still gets hit if they walk out of the cone. The wiki confirms this, as does the video's own testing. Pair the ultimate with Granny Long Legs' extra speed to keep up with fleeing targets while you stack bread. If you get stunned mid-channel, the pigeons trigger right away with whatever stacks you had.
Baba skill order
The video doesn't give a point-by-point skill order, but its playstyle sets clear priorities:
- Baba's Brew first, so you can silence a spirit-heavy laner or burn a tanky one from the start.
- Granny Long Legs next. The stomp is your lane wave clear and your main damage.
- Threadsap third, then Feed The Birds when it unlocks.
For upgrades, Granny Long Legs tier 2 (the cooldown cut) and Baba's Brew tier 2 (-14s) give you the most casts per fight. Threadsap tier 2 cuts its 28s cooldown to 16s and lengthens the steal. Take Feed The Birds tier 1 early for the extra range, and buy every tier 3 when you can afford the 5 points. This order matches the melee playstyle the video teaches. A gun-focused Baba would rush Threadsap upgrades instead.
Best Baba build in Deadlock for October 2026
The video's build is a frontline support and initiator build, shared in the in-game Build Browser as ID 855686. The items below are the video's choices. The costs come from the wiki, using its current item names:
| Phase | Items | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lane (800) | Monster Rounds, Melee Lifesteal, Extra Regen, Extra Spirit, Spirit Strike, Mystic Expansion | Camp clear, sustain and an early stomp that hurts |
| Early mid (1,600) | Melee Charge, Improved Spirit | Heavier stomp and more spirit power |
| Mid game (3,200) | Spirit Snatch, Radiant Regeneration, plus one of Spirit Resilience, Bullet Resilience or Metal Skin | Steal more Spirit with every melee, heal while dealing spirit damage, and survive the frontline |
| Late game (6,400) | Crushing Fists, Boundless Spirit | Top-end melee and spirit power |
cheap Put Mystic Expansion on Granny Long Legs so the stomp covers more ground. The video also suggests charge items for a Threadsap-heavy style. On the wiki, Extra Charge costs 800 and Rapid Recharge is a 3,200 tier 3 upgrade of it. They only make sense once Threadsap tier 3 gives it charges.
This baba build city never sleeps players can copy is centered on the stomp. A Threadsap and gun build is the main alternative, which the video mentions but doesn't detail.
Baba laning: winning lane with brew and stomp
grind The lane plan is to buy Monster Rounds, Melee Lifesteal and Extra Regen early, so the stomp both clears waves and makes the enemy respect your space. Open fights with Threadsap to charge your gun and stack Spirit. Throw the right brew, then stomp onto the enemy when they're weakened or silenced.
Watch your stamina and the Granny Long Legs timer. Baba has only 780 base health and, after the nerf, -7% bullet resist, so a stomp that leaves you deep with no cooldowns gets punished in lane.
Baba late game build and teamfight role
By mid game the video's plan is Crushing Fists, Spirit Snatch, Radiant Regeneration and at least Improved Spirit (Boundless Spirit if you're rich), plus one defensive item. From there the job is objectives and fights, not farming lanes.
setup A good teamfight looks like this: barrier your team or silence their key caster, stomp into the group for burst and a knockup, kick a diver like Haze off your carry, then get back to your team before Granny Long Legs runs out. The video's main warning is overextending. Her mobility makes it easy to end up far ahead of your team with nothing left. The video also likes the ultimate to open fights and contest objectives.
Baba's position on the team and farming
The video puts Baba at position 4: a roaming support who plays where the team needs her, clears jungle camps and fixes losing lanes. The wiki doesn't assign positions, so treat this as the creator's read. Some how to play baba deadlock tips from it:
- skip Don't get stuck pushing the same lane. After laning, clear camps and join fights.
- Stay with your carry or main damage dealer. Your buffs and debuffs are worth most next to them.
- Don't take farm from carries. Your souls aren't guaranteed, so help your team stay ahead instead.
How to counter Baba
Every one of these baba counter answers comes from the wiki's interaction notes:
- Debuff Resist shortens Threadsap's Spirit theft and the brew debuffs. Dispel effects remove the Threadsap debuff and the bread from Feed The Birds. Dispelling the bread stops any further damage.
- Plated Armor blocks Threadsap's on-shot bonus damage.
- Unstoppable suppresses the brew's silence and the ultimate's crowd control, and Indomitable blocks the silence.
- Divine Barrier cancels every Feed The Birds effect if it pops at any point during or after the channel.
- Parry her kick (which stuns her) or her stomp. Stunning her mid-ultimate ends the channel early, at lower damage.
- Bullet damage: since October 14 she has -7% base bullet resist, so focusing her with guns works.
How this guide was fact-checked
Ability descriptions, every ability number and upgrade, the weapon stats, the October 14, 2026 nerf list and the interactions in the counter section come from the deadlock.wiki pages for Baba and her update history. Item costs and tiers come from each item's wiki page (Monster Rounds, Melee Lifesteal, Extra Regen, Melee Charge, Extra Spirit, Spirit Strike, Mystic Expansion, Extra Charge, Rapid Recharge, Improved Spirit, Boundless Spirit, Spirit Snatch, Radiant Regeneration, Crushing Fists, Spirit Resilience, Bullet Resilience and Metal Skin).
The playstyle, item choices, brew targets, position 4 role and Build ID 855686 come from zwordz's video "The ONLY Baba Guide you NEED in Deadlock" (October 10, 2026), confirmed against its on-screen tooltips and Build Browser.
Corrections to the video:
- The ability is Threadsap, not "Thread Snap".
- Cooldowns are now 28s (Threadsap), 32s (Granny Long Legs) and 27s (Baba's Brew), not the video's 26s, 30s and 25s. The wiki lists these increases in the October 14 patch.
- Threadsap tier 2 now brings the cooldown to 16s, not the video's 14s.
- The barrier is 90, not 100, and scales less with spirit power.
- The gun's falloff runs from 15 m to 42 m on the wiki, not the 20 m optimal range the video estimates.
- The video's slope and ledge momentum tricks were partly nerfed on October 14.
What this guide doesn't answer
- A full gun-focused Baba build. The video names it as an option but doesn't show one, and we didn't want to invent item lists.
- Exact damage per item breakpoint. The wiki lists scaling, but real numbers depend on your spirit power and the target's resists.
- Street Brawl. The wiki lists separate Baba changes and an item draft for that mode. This guide covers standard 6v6 only.
- Her tier list placement. She's new and still being balanced, so any ranking would be out of date quickly.
Frequently asked
What is the best Baba build in Deadlock?
A melee support build centered on her Granny Long Legs stomp. In lane buy Monster Rounds, Melee Lifesteal, Extra Regen, Extra Spirit, Spirit Strike and Mystic Expansion. Add Melee Charge and Improved Spirit, then Spirit Snatch, Radiant Regeneration and a defensive item such as Spirit Resilience, Bullet Resilience or Metal Skin. Finish with Crushing Fists and Boundless Spirit. The full build is in the in-game Build Browser as ID 855686.
What does Baba's Threadsap do?
Threadsap throws a thread that follows your crosshair and bursts along its path, dealing 50 spirit damage and stealing 10 Spirit per hit at 175% effectiveness, up to 45 Spirit. While Baba holds stolen Spirit, each bullet deals bonus spirit damage. After the October 14, 2026 patch its cooldown is 28 seconds, and the tier 2 upgrade cuts 12 seconds off that.
How was Baba nerfed on October 14, 2026?
Threadsap's cooldown went from 26s to 28s, Granny Long Legs from 30s to 32s and Baba's Brew from 25s to 27s. The Soothing Brew barrier dropped from 100 to 90 with lower spirit scaling. She now has -7% base bullet resist, her spirit resist scaling fell from 0.12 to 0.1, and some of her airborne melee and slope momentum tricks were reduced.
Which Baba's Brew should I use?
Use Silencing Brew (3s silence) on heroes who rely on abilities, such as Yamato, Apollo or Mina. Use Scalding Brew (12 spirit DPS for 8s, plus lower spirit resist) before your team bursts a target or against tanky laners. Throw Soothing Brew (90 barrier for 8s) on your allies as a teamfight starts. Press Zoom (alt-fire) to pause brewing and keep the current tea.
How do you counter Baba in Deadlock?
Debuff Resist and dispels weaken Threadsap and her brews, and dispelling the bread stops Feed The Birds damage. Plated Armor blocks Threadsap's bonus bullet damage. Unstoppable and Indomitable stop her silence, and Divine Barrier cancels her ultimate. Parry her kick to stun her, stun her mid-ultimate to cut it short, and focus her with guns, since she has -7% base bullet resist.
