🎯 The core idea
Violet is a spirit-first ranged hero who wins by chaining her kit, not by out-shooting people. Living Ink bullets shave seconds off every cooldown, Flow State gives your team a slide highway, Still Life stuns and permanently grows her stats, and Abstract Landscape traps enemies in a silencing ink arena. Build spirit, cooldown and charges, land ability hits on heroes, and collect every sketch you earn.

Who Violet is and what her base stats tell you
Violet is the newest Deadlock hero, added on October 16, 2026 as the fifth hero-vote winner of the City Never Sleeps update, so everything here describes her launch kit. The deadlock.wiki page lists 710 health (+34 per boon), 2 health regen, 6.9 m/s move speed and a 16.1 m/s dash, which is unusually long; the video shows how much ground one dash covers. Her gun, Creative Solutions, fires 30-damage bullets at 1.54 per second with 15 ammo, a 2.7 s reload and 495 m/s bullet velocity, about 46 DPS at base. The catch is a -20% crit bonus scale, so headshots are worth less than usual.
Almost everything except her base gun damage scales with spirit power, so this Violet guide treats her as a spirit hero who uses her gun mainly to deliver Living Ink. One quirk the wiki points out: she can't zoom in, because right click is taken by Living Ink's Draw mode.
Living Ink empowered bullets and cooldown refunds
free Living Ink has two modes that share 2 charges (7 s between charges, 22 s cooldown). Empower (ability key) makes your next 3 bullets come alive for 10 s. You can steer them in flight, they deal 120% bullet damage, and each one splashes 35 spirit damage (x0.7 spirit scaling) in a 2.5 m radius. Every hit on a hero takes 1.5 s off all your ability cooldowns and half that off your item cooldowns. This one mechanic is why Violet works: three steered hits refund 4.5 s on Flow State, Still Life and even your ultimate.
How to use it: empower before a trade and curve the shots around cover rather than firing straight into a hero who can strafe. The wiki adds a few interactions worth knowing before you buy items:
- Empowered shots can't crit, and Violet fires 20% slower while empowered.
- Living Ink doesn't proc Express Shot, gets nothing from Split Shot, and isn't applied to Ricochet bounces.
- The item-cooldown refund doesn't work on Siphon Bullets.
Drawing ink walls with Living Ink
setup Draw (right click) paints a solid ink stroke up to 25 m long that blocks projectiles and characters for 20 s. Enemies can break a stroke with a heavy melee, but it deals spirit damage to them when they do. You and your allies can break your own strokes for free. Draw uses a charge but doesn't start the charge delay, so you can draw a wall even while Empower is waiting to recharge.
In the video, the creator boxes himself in with a stroke and turns it into instant personal cover, which is exactly the use case: drop a wall between you and a chaser while retreating, cut a lane off from a gank, or block a corridor so a fleeing enemy has to stop and melee through it. The stroke is placed at the furthest surface under your crosshair, up to max size, so aim at a closer wall or floor when you want a shorter line.
Flow State brush trail and flick damage
Flow State (23 s cooldown) sends a brush forward that keeps travelling until it hits something. It leaves an ink trail that gives allies 100% bonus slide distance and slows enemies it passes through by a fading 60% for 2 s, plus spirit damage. Damage ramps from 50 (x0.9 spirit) to 100 (x1.8 spirit) when the brush has travelled for 2 s. Recast to flick the brush forward, which ends the ability early but hits a larger area with spirit damage.
The brush moves the way you face, so you can steer it after launch. For maximum damage, let it run the full 2 s before the flick, and aim the trail through a group rather than at one hero.
Sliding on the ink to engage or escape
free The trail doubles as a movement tool. According to the wiki, Violet can accelerate on her ink up to 12.7 m/s on flat ground (9.7 m/s uphill), and move-speed slows don't affect that acceleration. The brush matches your speed while you slide behind it, so lay it toward your escape route and ride it out, or point it at the fight so the whole team arrives together. Uphill slides still slow allies down, and the extra slide distance stops Vyper from sliding up slopes with Slither, so don't lay it under a Vyper teammate who's mid-climb.
Still Life stuns and the sketch you collect
Still Life (25 m cast range, 35 s cooldown) marks one enemy hero as your subject and deals 30 spirit damage per second (x0.7) while you keep looking at them. If you finish the 2.6 s sketch, they take another 60 spirit damage (x1.4), are stunned for 1 s, and drop a sketch you can pick up.
How to use it: cast it on someone who can't break line of sight quickly, such as a hero committed to a fight or stuck in your Draw wall. The wiki is strict here: the channel ends if the target leaves your line of sight or your view cone for about 0.4 s. Distance doesn't break it, though, and you can still use items while you channel. Stunned targets freeze in place, even in the air.
Sketch stacking turns Still Life into a scaling stat
grind Each collected sketch permanently gives Violet one of four buffs, depending on who you sketched. The wiki lists:
| Buff per sketch | Heroes that give it |
|---|---|
| +4% Weapon Damage | Deadman Danny, Grey Talon, Holliday, Infernus, Ivy, Mina, Paradox, Venator, Vindicta, Wraith |
| +3 Spirit Power | Baba, Celeste, The Doorman, Dynamo, Graves, Lady Geist, McGinnis, Paige, Rem, Seven, Sinclair, Solomon, Violet, Viscous |
| +20 Max Health | Abrams, Bebop, Billy, Kelvin, Mo & Krill, Rat King, Shiv, Silver, Victor, Warden |
| +0.19 Move Speed | Apollo, Calico, Drifter, Haze, Lash, Mirage, Pocket, Vyper, Yamato |
The video confirms you can sketch the same hero over and over. Sketches vanish after 20 s, so go and pick them up before you reset. In the video the creator calls this her own way to scale without depending on urn runs. Sketching spirit-giving heroes fits the spirit build best, but in practice you sketch whoever is safe to sketch.
Abstract Landscape ink arena
Abstract Landscape (165 s cooldown, 0.6 s cast) raises a circle of ink walls that block vision for 6 s, plus 0.04 s per spirit power. Allies inside get +25 spirit power. Enemies inside are revealed, and any enemy who touches an outer wall takes 100 spirit damage (x1.4), is slowed by 30% and silenced for 2 s, and destroys the ink they touched. The circle grows counter-clockwise from behind you, so it takes a moment to close. You can recast to end it early.
How to use it: cast it to catch a single enemy and trap them with your team, or drop it on a fight so the enemies inside have to eat a silence to get out. The walls count as veils, so they trigger Veil Walker for anyone who walks through. If you buy Refresher, you have to cancel the first Landscape before you can cast the second.
Ability upgrades and Violet skill order
Here are the ability upgrades exactly as the wiki lists them (the T5 column costs 5 ability points):
| Ability | T1 | T2 | T5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living Ink | -4 s cooldown, 15 m max draw distance | On Empower: +10% fire rate for 10 s, stacks 5 times | +1 s cooldown reduction per hit, improved scaling |
| Flow State | On slide: +150% stamina regeneration | -6 s cooldown, +8 m flick range, +4 s trail duration | On slide: damage amp over time, up to 20% for 6 s |
| Still Life | On cast: 15 health regen for 4 s, refreshed on pickup | While drawing: subjects deal -35% damage | +20% move speed, -11 s cooldown, +0.35 s stun |
| Abstract Landscape | -20 s cooldown | On buff: +25% spirit lifesteal, +15 spirit power | +1.25 s silence, +4 s duration, ink no longer destroyed |
The video reads the Landscape T2 as "+50% spirit power". The wiki and the in-game tooltip in the frame both say +15 spirit power, so go by that. The video asks whether the Flow State slide buffs reach allies, and the wiki says they do: allies get both the stamina regen and the damage amp.
setup A sensible launch skill order, since there's no settled meta yet: unlock Living Ink first for lane trades, then Still Life and Flow State, and take the ultimate as soon as you can. For upgrades, get Living Ink T1 early, because a 4 s shorter cooldown means more cooldown-refunding hits. Then Still Life T2, since -35% damage from your subject makes the sketch a defensive tool, followed by Abstract Landscape T1. Living Ink T5 and Still Life T5 are the two big late spends. Treat this as a starting point and expect it to change once high-level players settle on one.
Violet item build by phase
The in-game Default Violet Build in the video is spirit, sustain and cooldown, which matches the kit. Read from the build screen:
| Phase | Items in the default build |
|---|---|
| Early game (800–1,600 souls) | Extra Spirit, Extra Regen, Extra Charge, Grit, Mystic Regeneration, Healing Booster (plus one Tier III vitality item whose label is unreadable in the video) |
| Mid game | Extra Stamina, Spirit Lifesteal, Rapid Recharge, Improved Spirit, Tankbuster, Reactive Barrier, Superior Cooldown |
| Late game | Boundless Spirit, Stamina Mastery, Spirit Burn, Escalating Exposure, Spiritual Overflow, Indomitable, Diviner's Kevlar, Transcendent Cooldown, Healing Tempo |
Why these Violet items fit, using the wiki item pages:
- cheap Extra Charge (800 souls) adds a third Living Ink charge and +7 spirit power for charged abilities. The wiki lists Living Ink as a 2-charge ability that Extra Charge affects. It upgrades into Rapid Recharge (3,200), with +2 charges, 30% faster charges and 14% cooldown reduction for charged abilities.
- Superior Cooldown (3,200, 20% ability cooldown reduction) and later Transcendent Cooldown (6,400, 25% ability and 25% item cooldown reduction) stack with Living Ink's per-hit refunds.
- Escalating Exposure (6,400) stacks spirit amp each time you deal spirit damage, and Violet deals spirit damage with all four abilities. Spirit Burn (6,400) rewards the 500+ spirit damage bursts that Still Life and Landscape add up to.
- Spiritual Overflow (6,400) gains fire rate, spirit power and spirit lifesteal from shooting heroes, so it suits a Violet who keeps shooting empowered bullets.
For a Violet late game build, the order matters less than finishing Boundless Spirit and the cooldown line before luxury items. The creator also suggests not ignoring her gun completely, since empowered shots deal 120% bullet damage, and names Opening Rounds as one gun item that could fit. skip Crit-based gun items: her -20% crit bonus scale and the fact that Living Ink can't crit work against them.
Violet laning: trading with steered bullets
free In lane, Violet wants short trades that end with an empowered hit. Fire your 3 Living Ink bullets around troopers and cover to hit the enemy hero. Each hit cuts your other cooldowns, so a good trade often has Flow State back up in time to secure an escape. Two habits matter early:
- Keep one Living Ink charge for Draw if you're playing against a gank-heavy lane. A wall dropped behind you while retreating is often the difference between a back-off and a death.
- Use Still Life only when the enemy can't step behind cover within half a second. A cancelled channel wastes a 35 s cooldown.
Grit and Extra Regen from the default build give her early sustain, and Mystic Regeneration heals her whenever her spirit damage lands on heroes.
Teamfights and how to play Violet around her ultimate
How to play Violet in a fight comes down to sequencing. Open with Flow State through the enemy line to slow them and give your team the slide. Then cast Abstract Landscape on whoever is caught, so your allies get +25 spirit power inside and anyone trying to leave gets silenced and slowed. Start Still Life on a target trapped inside, since they can't walk out of your view without touching a wall. Fire empowered Living Ink between casts to pull your next Landscape and Flow State closer. The creator compares her to the game's spirit nukers, and her extra value over them is walls and paths that reshape the fight.
Violet counter play and what she struggles with
Most counters to Violet come from her own wiki notes:
- Breaking line of sight cancels Still Life after about 0.4 s, so heroes with fast repositioning or cover-hugging habits make her biggest stun unreliable.
- Unstoppable suppresses her CC (Flow State slow, Still Life stun, Landscape silence and slow), and Indomitable prevents the Still Life and Landscape disables. Debuff Reducer shortens all of them, and the Flow State and Still Life debuffs can be dispelled.
- Reactive Barrier triggers on the Still Life stun and the Landscape silence, so the burst she lines up after them hits a barrier.
- Healing reduction works on the spirit lifesteal she gets from the Landscape T2.
- Her Draw walls can be broken with heavy melee, but it costs spirit damage, so tanky melee heroes handle them best.
There isn't a reliable Deadlock Violet tier placement yet. She came out three days before this guide was written, and any tier list rating right now is a guess, not match data. If you play against her, don't stand still in the open while she's looking at you, and walk around the Landscape walls instead of through them.
How this guide was fact-checked
The source is DuckFilms' day-one breakdown "MEET VIOLET! Deadlock New Hero Breakdown" (uploaded October 16, 2026, the day she was added, after the City Never Sleeps rework). Every ability number, upgrade, cooldown, charge count and base stat above was checked against the deadlock.wiki Violet page. The wiki has no separate Violet/Abilities page, so ability data comes from the main hero page. Her wiki update history shows no changes since release. Item costs and effects come from each item's own deadlock.wiki page.
Corrections and additions:
- Abstract Landscape T2 is +15 spirit power (plus 25% spirit lifesteal), not the "+50% spirit power" the video reads out. The wiki and the tooltip shown in the video agree.
- Header stats the video doesn't read out (Living Ink's 2.5 m radius, 7 s charge delay and 22 s cooldown, Flow State's 23 s cooldown, Still Life's 2.6 s channel, 25 m range and 35 s cooldown, Landscape's 165 s cooldown) come from the wiki.
- The four sketch buff types and the hero list come from the wiki. The video only shows the +4% weapon damage sketch from Infernus.
- The default item build was read from the in-game build screen shown in the video. One Tier III item in its early row can't be read and isn't named.
- The skill order and the reasons for each item are this guide's own reading of the kit, not a tested meta. The video doesn't give a skill order.
What this guide doesn't answer
- A proven high-MMR build or a Violet build for October 2026 ranked games: she launched on October 16, 2026, and there isn't enough match data yet. We plan to refresh this guide in one to two weeks.
- A tier list placement: there's no reliable win-rate data for a three-day-old hero.
- Matchup-by-matchup counters: the counters above come from her mechanics, not tested lane matchups.
- Street Brawl specifics: the wiki says she has no special Street Brawl ability changes, and this guide covers the standard City Never Sleeps map only.
- Lore and cosmetics: they're out of scope for a gameplay guide. See her wiki Lore page.
Frequently asked
What is the best Violet build in Deadlock?
Violet is a spirit hero, so build spirit power, cooldown reduction and ability charges. The in-game Default Violet Build starts with Extra Spirit, Extra Regen, Extra Charge, Grit and Mystic Regeneration. Mid game it adds Rapid Recharge, Improved Spirit, Spirit Lifesteal, Tankbuster and Superior Cooldown, and late game it finishes with Boundless Spirit, Escalating Exposure, Spirit Burn, Spiritual Overflow and Transcendent Cooldown. She launched on October 16, 2026, so no high-level meta has settled yet.
What does Violet's Living Ink do?
Living Ink has 2 charges and two modes. Empower makes your next 3 bullets steerable for 10 s. They deal 120% bullet damage plus 35 splash spirit damage, and each hit on a hero cuts 1.5 s off all your ability cooldowns and half that off item cooldowns. Draw (right click) paints a wall up to 25 m long that blocks projectiles and characters for 20 s. Enemies can break it with a heavy melee but take spirit damage when they do.
How does Violet's Still Life sketch work?
Pick an enemy hero within 25 m and keep looking at them. They take 30 spirit damage per second, and if you complete the 2.6 s sketch they take another 60 spirit damage, are stunned for 1 s and drop a sketch. Picking up the sketch within 20 s permanently grants +4% weapon damage, +3 spirit power, +20 max health or +0.19 move speed, depending on the hero. You can sketch the same hero more than once, but the channel breaks if they leave your line of sight for about 0.4 s.
What is Violet's ultimate in Deadlock?
Abstract Landscape (165 s cooldown) creates a circle of ink walls that blocks vision for 6 s, plus 0.04 s per spirit power. Allies inside gain +25 spirit power. Enemies inside are revealed, and touching a wall deals 100 spirit damage, slows them 30% and silences them for 2 s. Its T2 upgrade adds +25% spirit lifesteal and +15 spirit power (not +50% as some launch videos say), and T5 makes the walls permanent for the duration.
How do you counter Violet in Deadlock?
Break her line of sight while she channels Still Life, because the sketch cancels after about 0.4 s out of view. Unstoppable suppresses her slow, stun and silence, Indomitable prevents the Still Life and Landscape disables, and Debuff Reducer shortens them. Reactive Barrier triggers on her stun and silence, and healing reduction cuts the spirit lifesteal from her ultimate. Walk around her Abstract Landscape walls instead of through them.
