🎯 The core idea
Seven is an area-damage spirit carry who wins by surviving a weak early game. Clear waves and Haunts with Lightning Ball and Power Surge, and keep Storm Cloud for fights your team can win. Build charges, spirit resist shred and duration, then finish with Escalating Exposure and a way to survive stuns. The build here is refreshed for the City Never Sleeps patch and checked against deadlock.wiki.

Who Seven is and why he carries games
This Seven guide starts from P2's five-minute starter guide (uploaded 20 June 2026), and we checked every number against deadlock.wiki as of 19 October 2026. Seven is a spirit hero with a burst-fire gun called Cold Calculus. The wiki lists 730 base health (+41 per boon), 63 DPS, 3-round bursts and damage falloff from 20 m to 58 m. All four of his abilities hit an area. That is why the video calls him the best AoE hero in the game and one of the strongest carries.
The video's list of weaknesses still holds. He is squishy and has no movement ability, so he can't escape or protect himself. Enemies focus him because he is the biggest threat on his team. He is also expensive, and his early game is miserable. The video also blames his big head for taking extra headshot damage. Context helps here: the wiki gives Seven 55% crit reduction (raised from 35% on 22 May 2026), so headshots hurt him less than the hitbox suggests. Headshot-based items and passives still trigger easily on him, though.
setup What changed since the video. The source was uploaded before the 30 June major update (Soul Urn rework, Unstable Rift and the global ultimate cooldown increase), the 16 September balance patch and the 29 September City Never Sleeps map rework. In this guide, the video is only the source for how each ability works and for its general advice. The Seven build, item list and numbers come from the current wiki. The wiki's Seven update history has no changes after 12 August 2026, so the October 2026 patches didn't change him directly.
Lightning Ball: wave clear and area denial
Lightning Ball (1) fires a ball of lightning that travels in a straight line. It damages everything in its radius and slows itself down while it is damaging enemies, so it lingers on a group. It stops if it hits a wall. Current wiki values: 75 DPS (×0.5 spirit scaling), 4.25 m radius, 5 s lifetime, 26 s cooldown and 6 s between charges. That charge time was cut from 7 s on 30 June, after the video.
| Lightning Ball upgrade | Current wiki value |
|---|---|
| T1 (1 point) | +1 charge |
| T2 (2 points) | -28% move speed on hit targets and +1 s lifetime |
| T3 (5 points) | +58.5 DPS and +1.75 m radius (raised from +1.5 m on 12 August) |
The video says the ball "slows down" enemies. To be precise: the base ball slows only itself, and the enemy slow comes from T2. The wiki applies that slow every tick, so Debuff Resist barely helps against it while the target stands in the ball. All slows were also cut by about 20% across the game on 16 September. Use the ball to shove a wave, to block a doorway an enemy wants to escape through, or to cover the spot where Static Charge is about to land.
Static Charge: the delayed stun
setup Static Charge (2) puts a charge on one enemy hero within 15 m. After 3.5 s it stuns everyone within 5 m of that hero for 0.9 s and deals 35 damage (×0.792 spirit scaling). You can't cast it on yourself (removed in May 2025). It has a 42 s cooldown.
| Static Charge upgrade | Current wiki value |
|---|---|
| T1 | -20 s cooldown |
| T2 | +7 m radius and +5 m cast range |
| T3 | +0.9 s stun duration and +160 damage |
Static Charge stuns the area around the target, so put it on the enemy standing closest to their teammates and catch two or three heroes. The video gives a good practical rule: when you look for a stun, keep at least one stamina bar spare so you can dash into position or away again. The 3.5 s delay gives enemies time to spread out. Throw Lightning Ball where they are likely to run, or cast the charge when they can't move, such as during a teammate's crowd control.
Power Surge: your main damage tool
Power Surge (3) charges your gun for 10 s. Once per burst, your shot deals 10 shock damage (×0.14 spirit scaling), and the shock jumps to up to 4 nearby enemies within 10 m. Its cooldown is 50 s. This is the ability the video calls Seven's main damage tool, and it is what lets him clear waves and Haunt camps quickly.
| Power Surge upgrade | Current wiki value |
|---|---|
| T1 | -18 s cooldown |
| T2 | +3 m/s move speed, +8 damage and higher spirit scaling |
| T3 | +10 s duration and -15% spirit resist on hit (debuff lasts 10 s) |
The wiki notes three things that affect your Seven items. The shock is reduced by bullet falloff, so shoot from inside the 20 m falloff start. It triggers once per burst, so more fire rate means more bursts and more shocks. Ricochet bullets don't carry the shock, and Plated Armor on an enemy blocks it. T3's spirit-resist shred was cut from +12 s to +10 s duration on 11 June, before the video, and the -15% value is current.
Storm Cloud: Seven's ultimate
Seven's Storm Cloud (4) is a 7 s channel. It starts at a 10 m radius and spreads outward, dealing 95 DPS (×0.6 spirit scaling) to every enemy in the cloud that is in your line of sight. While channeling you can float slowly at 1.5 m/s, and pressing Fire once marks a lightning strike. After 0.25 s, the strike deals 75 damage in a 7 m radius and knocks enemies away. It does 50% damage to objectives and now also breaks breakables.
| Storm Cloud upgrade | Current wiki value |
|---|---|
| T1 | +55% bullet resist while channeling |
| T2 | +7 s channel time, +10 m final radius, +5 m initial radius |
| T3 | +65 DPS and +4 m/s flight speed |
skip Don't rely on the video's timings. The 30 June update increased the cloud's expand time from 1.5 s to 3.5 s, raised the cooldown from 180 s to 205 s as part of the global ultimate change, and made T2 also add 5 m of initial radius. The cloud now takes longer to reach full size, so start it where enemies already are rather than hoping they walk into it. Base Storm Cloud gives 0% bullet resist (the old 20% was removed in March 2026), so you stay very vulnerable until you take T1.
Seven skill order and ability points
Upgrades cost 1, 2 and 5 ability points for T1, T2 and T3. Neither the video nor the wiki gives a fixed Seven skill order. The order below is our recommendation, based on the wiki values above:
| Priority | Upgrade | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lightning Ball T1 | a second ball for last-hitting and harassing in lane |
| 2 | Power Surge T1 | -18 s cooldown, so Surge is up for every wave |
| 3 | Static Charge T1 | -20 s cooldown roughly halves the wait between stuns |
| 4 | Storm Cloud T1 | removes the 0% bullet resist weakness while channeling |
| 5 | Power Surge T2, then Lightning Ball T2 | more damage, plus the slow that keeps people in the ball |
| 6 | Storm Cloud T2 | a much bigger, longer cloud for teamfights |
| 7 | Lightning Ball T3 or Power Surge T3 | ball for a spirit build, Surge for a gun hybrid |
| 8 | Static Charge T2, Storm Cloud T3, Static Charge T3 | fill in during the late game |
cheap If you're struggling in lane, swap steps 1 and 3 so you get more stuns. If your team already has a lot of crowd control, put Static Charge points last.
Best Seven build for City Never Sleeps (October 2026)
Seven's items matter more than most heroes' items, and the video only says he needs a lot of them. The table below is our recommended Seven build for October 2026. Every cost and effect comes from the current deadlock.wiki item pages. On the wiki, item tiers cost 800, 1,600, 3,200 and 6,400 souls, and spending 4,800 in one category gives a large investment bonus.
| Phase | Item | Cost | Why it fits Seven (wiki effect) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early | Extra Charge | 800 | +1 ability charge and +7 spirit power on charged abilities: a third Lightning Ball |
| Early | Extra Spirit | 800 | builds into Improved Spirit or Surge of Power |
| Early | Mystic Expansion | 800 | imbue: +20% range and radius on Lightning Ball or Static Charge |
| Early | Extra Stamina | 800 | +1 stamina: the escape Seven doesn't have |
| Early (gun route) | Rapid Rounds | 800 | +9% fire rate means more bursts, so more Power Surge shocks |
| Mid | Mystic Vulnerability | 1,600 | spirit damage lowers enemy spirit resist by 8% for 7 s; builds into Escalating Exposure |
| Mid | Duration Extender | 1,600 | imbue: +22% duration, best on Power Surge |
| Mid | Compress Cooldown | 1,600 | imbue: +18% cooldown reduction on Power Surge or Static Charge |
| Mid | Spirit Shredder | 1,600 | bullets lower spirit resist by 8% and grant 10% spirit lifesteal |
| Mid | Reactive Barrier or Debuff Reducer | 1,600 | barrier when stunned, or +25% debuff resist |
| Mid | Toxic Bullets | 3,200 | bullet bleed and -35% incoming healing on the target |
| Mid | Superior Duration | 3,200 | +28% duration on all abilities, +8% bullet resist |
| Mid | Surge of Power | 3,200 | imbue: +28 spirit power, fire rate and move speed when cast |
| Late | Escalating Exposure | 6,400 | spirit damage stacks +4.5% spirit amp, up to 12 stacks |
| Late | Diviner's Kevlar | 6,400 | +10% ultimate cooldown reduction, 1,000 barrier and +40 spirit power when Storm Cloud starts |
| Late | Unstoppable | 6,400 | 5.5 s immunity to stun, silence, sleep, root and disarm |
| Late | Boundless Spirit or Refresher | 6,400 | raw spirit power, or a full reset for a second Storm Cloud |
grind Seven's late-game build is about surviving long enough to use his damage. Buy Unstoppable or Ethereal Shift (4 s of invulnerability) before a third damage item if you keep dying in fights. Two items from older guides have been changed: Debuff Remover now redirects to Dispel Magic on the wiki, and the limited-time Broker shop for Corrupted Items was removed on 2 October.
What a post-patch pro Seven game shows
We looked for a Seven guide video uploaded after City Never Sleeps. The newest ones are full pro matches with commentary, not guides: Deadlock Pro Gameplay's "Zerggy Seven" match, uploaded 18 October 2026. We used it only for this damage summary, which you can read on screen. In a 36:33 game, Seven dealt 65,233 damage: Storm Cloud 16,607 (25%), Power Surge 12,856 (20%), gun damage 12,375 (19%), Lightning Ball 6,543 (10%), Escalating Exposure 5,598 (9%) and Toxic Bullets 4,085 (6%). Static Charge dealt only 1,895.
The takeaway: in the current patch, Power Surge plus gun damage did about 40% of this Seven's total, more than his ultimate did. That supports the hybrid route in the table above (Rapid Rounds, Toxic Bullets, Power Surge points) alongside the spirit items. Static Charge is there for the stun, not the damage.
Seven laning: surviving the first 10 minutes
free For Seven laning, the video's advice is simply to survive. Stay back, deny the enemy's last hits, and chip their health with Power Surge and Lightning Ball rather than trading gunfire. Seven has low health and no escape, so a deep push without vision is how most lanes go wrong.
Once you have Storm Cloud, the video suggests holding it until the enemy laner is low, or until your lane partner has crowd control or a way to start a fight. That still holds. With a 205 s cooldown (it was 180 s when the video was made), an ultimate wasted in lane costs you more than before.
Farming Haunts and split pushing on the new map
The video's mid-game plan is to farm, farm and farm again. Take a side lane, clear waves, and use Lightning Ball and Power Surge on nearby jungle camps and boxes. That footage is from the old map. Since 29 September, neutral camps have been reworked into Haunts, and the map has new breakables and permanent buffs. Storm Cloud now hits breakables too. The routine is the same: use your abilities on whatever camp is nearest between waves, and spend souls when you go back.
When a fight starts far from you, the video suggests split pushing: if no enemies are near, hit objectives to pull people toward you. Don't stay too long or push past the middle of the map, because you have no reliable escape. Keep Storm Cloud for fights you can reach or for helping another lane in time.
Seven tips for teamfights
setup Late in the game, the video says to stay with your team or slightly behind it. Let Lightning Balls and Power Surge do most of the damage, and treat Storm Cloud as your finisher rather than your opener. A few Seven tips that follow from the wiki numbers:
- Start Storm Cloud when you have line of sight on the enemy group and they are fighting your team, not when they can step behind a wall.
- Take Storm Cloud T1 before big fights. Without it you have 0% bullet resist while you channel, and you are a stationary target.
- Use the lightning strike (Fire during the channel) to knock a diving enemy away from you, or to push someone back into the cloud.
- Put Static Charge on the enemy standing closest to their teammates, and throw Lightning Ball where they will run.
Seven counters: what beats him
If you're looking for a Seven counter, the wiki notes on each ability give a clear answer. Line of sight makes Storm Cloud useless, because enemies out of sight take no damage. Seven has no escape, so diving him during the channel works, especially before he has T1. Unstoppable suppresses Static Charge and the Lightning Ball slow, and Debuff Resist shortens the stun. Reactive Barrier triggers on Static Charge's stun. Plated Armor blocks Power Surge's shocks. Spirit resist items reduce all of his damage.
The video adds that heroes with passives that build faster on headshots are hard counters to him. His 55% crit reduction softens this, but heroes who can reach him and burst him still do well. If you are the Seven, buy Unstoppable or Ethereal Shift once you see a lot of crowd control, and play from behind your frontline.
Is Seven good? Where he sits in October 2026
We don't give Seven a tier in this guide, because no current deadlock.wiki data supports a ranking. The video calls him arguably the best hero for carrying games and notes he is a popular pick. Since then, his changes have been small: a June 30 nerf to Storm Cloud's expand time and cooldown, and an August 12 buff to Lightning Ball T3. So his strengths are the same as before: lots of area damage, strong scaling and good farming. If you want to know how to play Seven in Deadlock in one sentence: stay alive, farm, and buy items until your damage carries fights.
How this guide was fact-checked
- From deadlock.wiki (checked 19 October 2026): Seven's base stats and every ability value and upgrade, the Seven update history (last change 12 August 2026), the cost and effect of every item in the build table, the global slow reduction (16 September 2026) and the City Never Sleeps notes (29 September 2026).
- From the source video (P2, 20 June 2026): the role description and pros and cons, the ability walkthrough, the stamina advice for Static Charge, and the advice for laning, farming, split pushing and teamfights. It has no item build, so the Seven items here come entirely from the wiki.
- From a newer match video (Deadlock Pro Gameplay, "Zerggy Seven", 18 October 2026): only the end-of-game damage summary, as shown on screen.
- Corrections to the video: base Lightning Ball doesn't slow enemies (T2 does). Storm Cloud now takes 3.5 s to expand, not 1.5 s, and has a 205 s cooldown, not 180 s. Lightning Ball recharges in 6 s, not 7 s. Lightning Ball T3 gives +1.75 m radius, not +1.5 m. Neutral camps are now Haunts on a new map. The "big head" weakness is softened by Seven's 55% crit reduction.
- No wiki data: the skill order is our recommendation, not an official one, and we don't give a tier ranking.
What this guide doesn't answer
- Matchup-by-matchup advice for each hero: there are many heroes, and the source doesn't cover individual matchups.
- Street Brawl: the mode changes Lightning Ball and Storm Cloud values (see the wiki), and this guide covers standard matches only.
- Exact Haunt and breakable routes for the new map: see our farming and map guides. The source video uses the old map.
- Enhanced and Corrupted item versions: they are limited and change often, so the build uses the standard versions.
Frequently asked
What is the best Seven build in Deadlock right now?
For the October 2026 (City Never Sleeps) patch, start with Extra Charge, Extra Spirit, Mystic Expansion and Extra Stamina, plus Rapid Rounds if you lean on Power Surge. Mid game, add Mystic Vulnerability, Duration Extender, Compress Cooldown, Spirit Shredder, Toxic Bullets and Superior Duration. Late, buy Escalating Exposure, Diviner's Kevlar and Unstoppable, then Boundless Spirit or Refresher.
What is the best skill order for Seven?
There is no official order, but a reliable one is Lightning Ball T1 (+1 charge), Power Surge T1 (-18 s cooldown), Static Charge T1 (-20 s cooldown) and Storm Cloud T1 (+55% bullet resist while channeling). Then take Power Surge T2, Lightning Ball T2 and Storm Cloud T2, and choose Lightning Ball T3 for a spirit build or Power Surge T3 for a gun hybrid.
How does Seven's Storm Cloud work after the June 2026 changes?
Storm Cloud is a 7 s channel that deals 95 DPS to every enemy in your line of sight inside the cloud, starting from a 10 m radius. Since 30 June it takes 3.5 s to expand (was 1.5 s) and has a 205 s cooldown (was 180 s). Press Fire once while channeling to call a lightning strike that deals 75 damage and knocks enemies back.
How do you counter Seven in Deadlock?
Break line of sight during Storm Cloud, because enemies out of sight take no damage, and dive him while he channels, since he has no escape and 0% bullet resist before Storm Cloud T1. Unstoppable suppresses Static Charge and the Lightning Ball slow, Reactive Barrier triggers on his stun, Plated Armor blocks Power Surge shocks, and spirit resist items cut all of his damage.
How do you lane as Seven?
Play safe and survive. Deny last hits, poke with Lightning Ball and Power Surge instead of trading gunfire, and keep one stamina bar ready when you go for a Static Charge stun. Hold Storm Cloud until the enemy is low or your partner has crowd control, because its cooldown is now 205 s. After lane, farm waves, Haunts and breakables until your items come online.
