🎯 The core idea

Pocket is a dive-and-leave spirit hero: stack damage amp with Barrage, burst a target with Satchel and items, then use Flying Cloak to get out before the enemy answers. Their kit has not changed since July 2026, but the City Never Sleeps map, item renames and the global ultimate cooldown change mean January-era builds need a refresh. This guide gives the current numbers and a frame-read October build.

  • free costs nothing
  • cheap small cost
  • setup needs preparation
  • grind pays off slowly
  • skip the thing to stop doing

Who Pocket is after City Never Sleeps

Pocket is a mobile close-range hero. Their weapon, The Black Sheep, is a shotgun that fires 7 pellets in a hexagon pattern with 11 shots per magazine, and its damage falls off between 16m and 46m. You want to be close when you shoot and gone when the enemy turns on you. Pocket starts with 780 health, which is low for a hero who has to dive.

The source video for this guide (ovvcci's short Pocket guide, January 2026) makes a fair point: Pocket looks average on paper but has a very high skill ceiling, and they reward clean movement more than one-button damage. Both spirit and gun builds are playable. Spirit is the stronger, more common choice, and it is the one we recommend in the October 2026 build below.

free The most useful habit to copy from current high-rank play is the one Tonydadof4 described in his October 12, 2026 video after rewatching the top Pocket player's replays: fire Flying Cloak early as your exit route, not as your way in. Do your damage, then teleport out before the enemy can retaliate.

What changed since the January video

The ovvcci video was uploaded on January 11, 2026. Since then Deadlock has had the June 30 update (Soul Urn rework, the Unstable Rift objective and a longer cooldown on every ultimate), the September 16 balance patch (slows weakened globally), the September 29 City Never Sleeps map rework (neutral camps became Haunts) and several October patches. The tooltips shown in the video are out of date. Here are the differences that matter, with the wiki's current values:

What the video showsCurrent value (deadlock.wiki)
Barrage T1 +12.6 damage per projectile, T2 -14s cooldown, T3 +2m radiusT1 +16, T2 -16s, T3 +4% amp per stack and +3m radius
Barrage slow -30%-24%
Flying Cloak 32s cooldown, 70 damage26s cooldown, 60 damage
Flying Cloak upgrades: -14s cooldown / +76 damage / +7 weapon damage after teleporting+70 damage / +5 weapon damage for 6s / +1.6s lifetime and -10s cooldown
Satchel T3: -40% fire rate for 4s and +0.5s escape+1.5s duration, +4m radius, -32% move speed and fire rate for 4s
Affliction 140s cooldown, 12% current health damage, 28 DPS, 12s170s cooldown, no current health damage, 32 DPS, 10s
Debuff RemoverRenamed Dispel Magic

According to Pocket's update history on the wiki, Pocket has had no changes since July 28, 2026. So the September and October patches leave the kit alone, and the main things to adjust are the map and the item shop.

Barrage: poke and damage amp

Barrage (32s cooldown) is a 2-second channel that fires 4 projectiles. Each deals 32 spirit damage plus spirit scaling and slows enemies near the impact by 24% for 1.5s. Every projectile that hits a hero gives Pocket a 6% damage amp stack that lasts 15s. The wiki notes that the amp is on Pocket, so it boosts damage against every enemy and NPC, including ones Barrage didn't hit. Recasting Barrage while you still have stacks wipes them, so let a set of stacks run out before you cast again.

The ovvcci video describes it well: Barrage is a setup tool, not a finisher. Cast it before a fight starts so the follow-up hits harder and the enemy has to move. If you cast it in the air, Pocket floats, and casting it from ziplines or high angles makes it easier to land. Since March 2026 you can air dash and cast Flying Cloak during Barrage without cancelling it, but any input that isn't movement cancels it without starting the cooldown.

cheap Barrage ability upgrades: T1 is +16 damage per projectile, T2 cuts 16s off the cooldown (almost half), and T3 adds +4% amp per stack and +3m radius.

Flying Cloak: damage, then teleport

Flying Cloak (26s cooldown) sends a cloak forward that deals 60 spirit damage (scaling ×1.3) to enemies it passes through and lasts 3.8s. Press the ability again to teleport to it. Good Pocket players don't teleport straight away. They let the cloak travel, watch how the enemy reacts, and only teleport once someone is out of position or has used their key cooldowns. ovvcci also recommends throwing the cloak past enemies instead of at them, so you land behind or beside the fight rather than in the middle of it.

The current upgrades suit both playstyles. T1 is +70 damage. T2 gives +5 weapon damage per bullet for 6s after you cast, which the wiki works out to 35 extra damage per shotgun blast. T3 is +1.6s lifetime and -10s cooldown, turning the cloak into a frequent escape.

skip Don't throw the cloak into a fight and teleport in before you have another way out. The wiki also notes that Slowing Hex disables only the teleport, so a hexed Pocket is stuck where they are.

Enchanter's Satchel: the safety button

Enchanter's Satchel (17s cooldown) makes Pocket hide in their suitcase for 1.5s. You can't be hit while inside, and when you come out you deal 65 spirit damage (scaling ×1.1) to enemies nearby. Any action ends it early. The wiki adds a handy trick: Satchel disarms Pocket, so using it while reloading finishes the reload instantly.

ovvcci's point still holds. The damage is fine, but the real value is survival: dodge a burst, wait for your cooldowns, reset a fight. Experienced players often use it early, as soon as they are focused. Using it purely for damage with no plan to get out is the classic beginner mistake.

Upgrades: T1 -5s cooldown, T2 +90 damage, T3 +1.5s duration, +4m radius, and a 32% move speed and fire rate slow for 4s on enemies hit. T2 is what makes Satchel a real damage combo on spirit Pocket.

Affliction: pressure, not kills

Affliction is Pocket's ultimate. It applies a damage-over-time debuff to every enemy within 9m: 32 DPS (scaling ×0.21) for 10s. The wiki confirms the video's main point: the damage can't kill and doesn't trigger item procs. It deals half damage to objectives, and recasting it refreshes the duration. It drains health bars so your team can finish the kills.

Ultimate cooldowns went up for every hero in the June 30 update, and Affliction now has a 170s cooldown (it was 140s in the video's tooltip). Upgrades: T1 -35s cooldown, T2 +3s duration and +4m radius, T3 stops all healing on affected enemies and adds +13 DPS with more spirit scaling. That T3 makes Affliction a team-wide anti-heal.

Skill order and ability upgrades

Neither video gives a point-by-point skill order, so this is our recommendation based on the wiki numbers above. Unlock abilities in the order your level-ups offer them. Ability points cost 1 for T1, 2 for T2 and 5 for T3.

PriorityUpgradeWhy
1Barrage T1 (+16 per projectile)More poke and lane damage
2Enchanter's Satchel T1 (-5s cooldown)Your escape comes back more often
3Barrage T2 (-16s cooldown)Damage amp roughly twice as often
4Enchanter's Satchel T2 (+90 damage)Satchel becomes a real burst
5Affliction T1 (-35s cooldown)Ultimate in more fights
6Flying Cloak T3 (+1.6s, -10s cooldown)Escape on a 16s cooldown
7Barrage T3, Affliction T3, restAmp and anti-heal for the late game

On a gun build, take Flying Cloak T2 (+5 weapon damage per bullet) earlier and Satchel T2 later.

Pocket spirit build by phase (October 2026)

Neither the wiki nor ovvcci provides a current build. So instead of carrying over the January item list, we read this one item by item from the HUD of Dewamoon's ranked Eternus Pocket match on the new map (Cursed Apple POVs, uploaded October 5, 2026, build ID 207750). We matched icons against the wiki's item icons. This is the best spirit Pocket build we could confirm for October 2026, and each item's current stats were checked on the wiki.

PhaseItems (cost)What they do for Pocket
EarlyMonster Rounds (800), Mystic Burst (800), Enchanter's Emblem (1,600), Swift Striker (1,600)Faster farming, extra spirit burst on abilities over 80 damage, +15 spirit power and 5% ability cooldown reduction while above 65% health
Early to midCultist Sacrifice (3,200), Compress Cooldown (1,600), Dispel Magic (3,200)Eat an NPC for 270% of its souls plus a 160s buff, then cleanse non-ultimate debuffs
MidTankbuster (3,200), Majestic Leap (3,200), Mystic Expansion (800), Duration Extender (1,600), Superior Cooldown (3,200), Spirit Burn (6,400)Bonus damage on abilities over 165 damage, a 45s leap with a barrier, range, duration and 20% ability cooldown reduction
LateGreater Expansion, Superior Duration, Spiritual Overflow, Ethereal Shift, Cheat Death, Transcendent Cooldown, Refresher+30% range, +28% duration, 4s of invulnerability, a second life, and a full cooldown reset every 300s

By the end of the match Cultist Sacrifice and Enchanter's Emblem had been sold. Superior Cooldown became Transcendent Cooldown (+25% ability and item cooldown reduction), Mystic Expansion became Greater Expansion, and Duration Extender became Superior Duration. Swift Striker, Tankbuster, Dispel Magic and Majestic Leap stayed in the slots.

setup ovvcci's January spirit build (shown in the video as build ID 256463) also has Cold Front, Mystic Vulnerability, Healbane, Kinetic Dash, Diviner's Kevlar, Leech, Boundless Spirit and Escalating Exposure. Those are still fine swaps, but Spiritual Overflow had its buildup slowed by 35% on September 16, and Tankbuster dropped to 7.5% current health bonus damage that day.

The gun Pocket build from the video

ovvcci's own preference is gun Pocket. His January list (frame-read from the video): Close Quarters, Rapid Rounds, Monster Rounds, Battle Vest, Swift Striker, Cultist Sacrifice and Stamina Mastery early; Bullet Resist Shredder, Surge of Power, Point Blank, Hollow Point, Active Reload and Weighted Shots in the mid game; Vampiric Burst, Silencer, Glass Cannon, Crippling Headshot and Lucky Shot late. He keeps two spirit items (Bullet Resist Shredder and Surge of Power, 4,800 souls together) so the abilities still hurt.

Every item on that list still exists in the October 2026 shop. A few have changed. Weighted Shots dropped from +40% to +30% weapon damage on July 28, 2026. Hollow Point now gives +35% weapon damage and -10% bullet resist on enemies while you are above 65% health. Point Blank gives +50% weapon damage within 15m, which suits Pocket's shotgun range. ovvcci picks Stamina Mastery (+2 stamina and one extra air jump or air dash) over Majestic Leap or Warp Stone on gun Pocket, because Cloak and Satchel already cover escapes. Treat this as the fun, weapon-focused option and not the current standard. We found no post-September 29 match showing it.

Laning on the new map

The September 29 map rework changed lanes, routes and camp positions, so January videos can't teach you the map. Tonydadof4 said this was the main reason his Pocket fell apart after the update: he was getting caught in the open because he no longer knew the routes. His fix was to study a top player's replays instead of just playing more.

grind In lane, poke with Barrage when the enemy laner is near their troopers. The amp lasts 15s, so follow up with shotgun blasts while it is up. Stay within your shotgun's 16m falloff range only while Satchel is ready. Dewamoon's first purchases were Monster Rounds and Mystic Burst. Monster Rounds gives +25% weapon damage and +25% bullet resist against NPCs, which makes last-hitting and early camps faster.

Farming Haunts and the mid game

Since City Never Sleeps, neutral camps are called Haunts. The wiki says they give souls to every player who damaged them and that their health grows by 2.1% per minute, so clearing camps early is cheaper. Barrage's amp also works on NPCs, which makes a Barrage before a camp a quick way to clear it. Cultist Sacrifice can eat one enemy NPC every 270s for 270% of its souls in total. Its weapon damage, health and +12% ability range buff lasts 160s and persists through death.

setup In the mid game, play like the top Pocket in Tonydadof4's notes: before you commit, check who is missing from the map, who has their ultimate and how many souls they have. Then dive in, burst and leave. Don't stay for a long trade.

Teamfight combo and late game

ovvcci's group-fight combo still works with current numbers:

  • Open with Barrage from outside the fight to build amp stacks.
  • Throw Flying Cloak into the middle, teleport, and cast Affliction while enemies are grouped (9m radius, 13m with T2).
  • Use Enchanter's Satchel for the exit damage or to dodge the counter-burst.
  • Leave with Majestic Leap, or keep the cloak teleport for that if you fired it ahead of time.

Tonydadof4's variation from the top player's replays: fire the cloak ahead as your exit, do the Satchel combo, and use Cold Front (1,600 souls, 95 spirit damage and a 48% slow for 4s in a 10m ring) right as you come out, then teleport away when they turn on you. In the late game, Refresher resets every cooldown, so you get a second Barrage, Satchel and Affliction in the same fight, and Ethereal Shift buys 4s of invulnerability. Affliction T3 blocks all enemy healing, which is a big deal in long objective fights around the Unstable Rift and the Patron.

Pocket counter play: what beats them

If you are playing against Pocket, or want to know what to watch out for as Pocket:

  • Slowing Hex disables the teleport part of Flying Cloak, per the wiki, so Pocket is stuck wherever they are.
  • Wait out the suitcase. Satchel lasts 1.5s (3s with T3). Aim at where it opens and hit Pocket when they come out.
  • Silences and interrupts (Silence Wave, Cursed Relic) shut down the whole kit while Pocket is in the middle of the fight.
  • Spread out against Affliction. Its 9m radius rewards groups, and Dispel Magic can't remove it because Dispel Magic only purges non-ultimate effects.
  • Barrage's slow can be dispelled and is suppressed by Unstoppable.

As Pocket, the matchups that hurt most are heroes who punish your teleport landing and long-range poke that keeps you out of shotgun range. In those games, play the spirit build and stay back with Barrage until the enemy's control is on cooldown.

How this guide was fact-checked

  • From deadlock.wiki (Pocket page and Pocket update history, checked October 19, 2026): every ability number (cooldowns, damage, scaling, durations, radius, upgrades), the weapon stats, the Barrage amp behaviour, the Satchel reload trick, Affliction being non-lethal with half damage to objectives, the Slowing Hex interaction, and the fact that Pocket hasn't changed since July 28, 2026.
  • From the wiki's item pages: stats and recent changes for every item named, including the Debuff Remover to Dispel Magic rename and the September 16 Spiritual Overflow, Tankbuster and Hollow Point changes. Haunts behaviour comes from the wiki's Haunts page.
  • From the ovvcci video (January 11, 2026): ability fundamentals and how to use them, the group-fight combo, and both builds shown on screen. We used it for fundamentals only.
  • Corrections to the video: its tooltips show Barrage T1 +12.6 / T2 -14s / T3 +2m and a -30% slow (now +16 / -16s / +4% amp and +3m / -24%); Flying Cloak at 32s and 70 damage with the old upgrades (now 26s, 60 damage, +70 / +5 weapon damage / +1.6s and -10s); Satchel T3 at -40% fire rate (now -32% move speed and fire rate plus +1.5s and +4m); and Affliction at 140s with 12% current health damage (now 170s with no current health damage, 10s duration).
  • From frames of Dewamoon's match (Cursed Apple POVs, October 5, 2026): the October build, read from the in-game HUD and matched against wiki icons. From Tonydadof4 (October 12, 2026): the cloak-as-exit habit and the Cold Front follow-up, credited to him.
  • Our own recommendation: the skill order table. Neither video gives one.

What this guide doesn't answer

  • Exact jump spots and routes on the City Never Sleeps map, because they need a movement guide with video, not still frames.
  • Every possible hero matchup, because counter play depends on drafts and patches. We covered the mechanics that decide most matchups.
  • How strong Pocket is in the current meta, because tier placement gets its own tier list page.
  • Street Brawl item drafting, which the wiki covers separately and which doesn't change ranked builds.
  • Pocket's lore, which doesn't affect how you play them.

Frequently asked

What is the best Pocket build in Deadlock right now?

Spirit Pocket. A high-rank October 2026 match on the new map went Monster Rounds, Mystic Burst, Enchanter's Emblem and Swift Striker early, then Cultist Sacrifice, Dispel Magic, Tankbuster, Majestic Leap and Superior Cooldown, and finished with Spirit Burn, Spiritual Overflow, Greater Expansion, Superior Duration, Ethereal Shift, Cheat Death, Transcendent Cooldown and Refresher.

What skill order should I use on Pocket?

Take Barrage T1 (+16 damage per projectile) first, then Enchanter's Satchel T1 (-5s cooldown), Barrage T2 (-16s cooldown), Satchel T2 (+90 damage) and Affliction T1 (-35s cooldown). Next comes Flying Cloak T3 (+1.6s lifetime, -10s cooldown), then Barrage T3 and Affliction T3. On a gun build, take Flying Cloak T2 (+5 weapon damage per bullet) earlier.

Can Pocket's ultimate Affliction kill enemies?

No. Affliction is non-lethal and doesn't trigger item procs. It deals 32 DPS for 10s to enemies within 9m on a 170s cooldown and does half damage to objectives. Use it to drain health bars so your team can finish kills. Its T3 upgrade stops all healing on affected enemies.

Did Pocket change with the City Never Sleeps update?

Pocket's abilities didn't change. The wiki lists no Pocket changes since July 28, 2026. What did change is the map, neutral camps becoming Haunts, some item names (Debuff Remover is now Dispel Magic), slows being weaker globally since September 16, and the June 30 ultimate cooldown increase that put Affliction at 170s.

How do you counter Pocket in Deadlock?

Slowing Hex disables the teleport part of Flying Cloak. Wait out Enchanter's Satchel (1.5s, or 3s with T3) and hit Pocket when they come out. Silence or interrupt them with items like Silence Wave or Cursed Relic, and spread out against Affliction because Dispel Magic can't remove an ultimate's debuff.
