Deadlock Mirage Guide: Build, Abilities & Skill Order

A wiki-checked Mirage guide for the City Never Sleeps patch: every ability and upgrade, skill order, an early-to-late item build, farming on the new map and how to counter him. Items changed since the source video are corrected in-line.

🎯 The core idea

Mirage is a backline gun carry whose bullets stack Djinn's Mark, a passive that doubles its damage with every mark and pops for spirit damage. The current build rushes Ricochet to spread marks and farm fast, uses Traveler to soak lanes across the map, then stacks spirit damage and debuffs so enemies can't heal or hit back. No Mirage ability changed after July 28, 2026.

  • free costs nothing

Who Mirage is after City Never Sleeps

Mirage is a ranged hero who plays from the back of a fight. He has a weak base kit, with 730 health and 40 weapon DPS according to deadlock.wiki, but almost all of his damage comes from one passive. Every bullet that lands adds a stack of Djinn's Mark, and the stacks go off as spirit damage that grows fast. His other three abilities keep him alive (Fire Scarabs), get him out of trouble (Dust Devil, the "tornado") and move him around the map (Traveler).

This guide combines two sources. The build comes from SwoleBenji's July 20, 2026 video. We checked every item in it against the current wiki and patch notes. The farming and map advice comes from aquatiq's "How to Carry as Mirage in Deadlock", uploaded October 7, 2026. That is the only Mirage guide video we found from after the September 29 City Never Sleeps map rework. aquatiq plays on the new map and thinks Mirage has become very strong there. His reason is that the reworked map is more open, so it's harder for enemies to break line of sight before the marks stack up. That's one player's opinion, not a tier list, and this page doesn't give Mirage a tier rank. According to the wiki's patch history, Mirage's abilities haven't changed since July 28, 2026, and none of the October balance patches (October 5 and October 14) changed him or his core items.

Fire Scarabs: sustain and a damage penalty

Fire Scarabs is a skillshot with 2 charges and a 35s cooldown. A scarab that hits latches onto the enemy for 5 seconds, drains health from them into you, and cuts their outgoing damage by 20%. This is how you heal in lane, so don't waste it on full health unless the poke is worth it.

UpgradeEffect (deadlock.wiki)
T1 (1 AP)+7 damage per second
T2 (2 AP)+1 charge and +2s duration
T3 (5 AP)-15% more damage penalty (35% total), more spirit scaling

Correction: the video says two points in Scarabs give you "+2 charges". That was true when it was recorded, but the July 28, 2026 patch changed T2 to +1 charge and +2s duration. Hitting the same enemy with a second scarab only refreshes the duration, so spread charges across targets instead of stacking them on one person. Healing amp items don't boost the Scarab heal, but enemy healing reduction does cut it. Unstoppable blocks the damage penalty, though only against spirit damage.

free SwoleBenji's aiming tip from the lane footage: throw a scarab while the enemy is shooting, because heroes move slower while firing. Don't throw it while they're jumping, or while a trooper is between you and them.

Djinn's Mark: how the damage actually works

Your shots put a Djinn's Mark on the target. A new mark can only land on the same target every 2.75 seconds (a per-target cooldown), and each new mark doubles the stored damage. When the marks run out after 5 seconds, or you press the ability to consume them, they deal spirit damage and reveal the target on the minimap for 6 seconds. The wiki lists the total as 1, 2, 4, 8 and (with the T3 fifth mark) 16 times the base damage.

UpgradeEffect (deadlock.wiki)
Base11 base damage (x0.35 spirit), 4 max marks, 2.75s per-target cooldown
T1a fading 48% slow for 0.8s when the marks go off
T2+20 base damage, +3s multiplier duration
T3-0.75s cooldown, +1 max mark, 0.5s stun at max marks

Several wiki notes matter in a real fight:

  • The damage uses your spirit power at the moment the marks go off, not when each stack was applied. A temporary spirit buff right before the pop boosts the whole stack.
  • Counterspell can't block it, and Plated Armor doesn't stop it. It also won't knock anyone off a zipline, because it counts as damage over time.
  • Only the first mark has a 40m range limit.
  • Known bug: if you unlock T3 while an enemy is already marked, that enemy stays capped at 4 marks until the stacks clear.

SwoleBenji says a fully stacked mark late in the game explodes for around 7,000 damage. That is his number, from his own games. The wiki doesn't list it, and the real figure depends on your spirit power and the enemy's resists.

Dust Devil: the Mirage tornado

Dust Devil turns you into a tornado that travels 20m forward. It deals 65 damage in a 4m radius, lifts enemies up briefly, and slows them by 24% for 3 seconds. When you come out of it you get 30% bullet evasion for 4 seconds. The cooldown is 36s, and according to the wiki Mirage is invincible while casting it, so it's also your answer to a big ultimate or burst combo.

UpgradeEffect (deadlock.wiki)
T1+60 damage
T2-12s cooldown, +30% evasion (60% total)
T3recast within 6s, more spirit scaling

The T3 recast is the "double tornado" both videos rely on: one cast to dodge, a second to get out. Since July 28, T3 no longer adds lift duration. Slowing Hex disables Dust Devil, and Unstoppable or Indomitable ignore its crowd control, so don't count on the lift against those items.

Traveler: map-wide farming and rotations

Traveler, your ultimate, teleports you to any spot on the minimap after a 2 second wait, and it can also target units. Damage from a hero during the wait cancels it, and you then wait a 4 second interrupt cooldown before trying again. You can also cancel it yourself and keep the cooldown, which is a good way to fake a gank. The base cooldown is 140s (raised from 120s in the June 30 ultimate changes). The T3 upgrade takes 90s off it.

UpgradeEffect (deadlock.wiki)
T1+3m/s move speed and +20% fire rate for 12s after arriving
T2400 barrier that scales with spirit
T3-90s cooldown

Two things to know: teleporting drops the Soul Urn, and enemies can see an effect at the spot where you'll land. SwoleBenji farms by checking the minimap for a lane that just opened or a Sinner's Sacrifice that just spawned, then teleporting there before anyone else gets to it. With Traveler maxed and Superior Cooldown, he gets it back roughly every 30 to 40 seconds.

Skill order and ability upgrades

This order comes from SwoleBenji's build, which queues the points for you in the in-game build browser. Ability upgrades cost 1, 2 and 5 ability points for T1, T2 and T3.

OrderWhat to doWhy
1Unlock Fire Scarabslane healing and early poke
2Unlock Djinn's Mark, then Dust Devil, then Travelerfull kit by early lane
3Max Djinn's Markyour main damage source
4Fire Scarabs T1 and T2the extra charge and duration help you heal while jungling
5Max Travelerlines up with buying cooldown items
6Max Dust Devilthe recast for escaping
7Fire Scarabs T3 lastthe extra 15% damage penalty matters more late

aquatiq also maxes Djinn's Mark first, so on the current map both sources agree on that point. SwoleBenji says the final point lands around 50,000 souls (35 boons). That threshold is his estimate, and it can shift between patches.

Mirage item build by phase

This is the item build from SwoleBenji's panel, which you buy left to right. Every item in it is still in the shop. The notes column lists changes made after the video was recorded.

End gameSilencer, Inhibitor (sell Fortitude), Transcendent Cooldown, Juggernautanti-heal and damage penalties
Super lateMercurial Magnum (sell Titanic, imbue on Scarabs), Siphon Bullets (sell Transcendent)Mercurial Magnum nerfed Sep 16

Changes from the video that you should know about:

  • Spirit Burn (July 28) no longer hits everyone within 12m. It only burns the main target, its cooldown is now per enemy, and the explosion was cut from 110 to 50 damage. The burn and the -70% healing reduction still work, so it's still worth buying. It just can't burn a whole group at once anymore.
  • Tankbuster no longer triggers from item damage (July 28), and its bonus damage based on current health went from 8% to 7.5% (September 16). It only triggers from an ability hit dealing more than 165 damage, which in practice means a big Djinn's Mark pop.
  • Mercurial Magnum lost some bonus bullet damage on September 16. It's still the late-game slot in the build, but it hits less hard than it did in the video.

Why Ricochet comes so early

setup Buying a 6,400-soul item first is unusual, and SwoleBenji knows plenty of players disagree. For Mirage, though, it makes sense. According to the wiki, Ricochet gives +18% fire rate, and each bullet bounces to 2 nearby enemies within 13m for 65% damage, applying any bullet procs. That means every bounce also applies a Djinn's Mark. One stream of bullets marks a whole trooper wave, a jungle camp or three heroes standing close together.

His benchmark: Ricochet by 10 minutes if your lane is going well, 11 if it's even, 12 or later if you're losing. Until then, play for souls, not kills. In aquatiq's October game, Ricochet is in his item bar right after Titanic Magazine, so the rush is still how people play him on the new map.

Golden Goose Egg: when to hatch it

grind The Egg costs 800 and gains soul value while you carry it. Hatching it gives you the souls plus permanent stat buffs. The video's tooltip shows the old numbers. The current wiki says the egg gives 80 souls per minute (down from 90) and -15% damage while you hold it (up from -10%), both changed on September 16. Since that patch the stored souls also count toward your net worth, which lowers the comeback souls you'd get for being behind.

The wiki confirms the video's main point. The buffs are scaled at the moment you hatch, and they reach their highest level after 30 minutes. So hatch after the 30-minute mark unless you need the item slot sooner. The wiki gives one buff per 80 souls the egg collected, so the video's advice to hatch at multiples of 400 souls doesn't change anything. The egg is disabled in Street Brawl.

Late-game swaps and the selling order

Once all your slots are full, SwoleBenji makes swaps in this order:

  1. Sell Fortitude for Inhibitor: -30% outgoing damage and -40% incoming healing on the targets your bullets hit.
  2. Sell Titanic Magazine for Mercurial Magnum, imbued on Fire Scarabs, once Buff Containers have given you enough extra ammo.
  3. Sell Transcendent Cooldown for Siphon Bullets once Buff Containers have given you enough cooldown reduction.

Siphon Bullets steals 2.5% of the target's max health per hit for 17 seconds. The enemy gets that health back when the effect ends, so it isn't permanent lifesteal. It works best in long fights where you keep shooting. SwoleBenji adds up the damage reductions from Fire Scarabs (35%), Silencer (25%, spirit damage only) and Inhibitor (30%) and gets "90%". The wiki doesn't say these penalties simply add together, and Silencer only cuts spirit damage, so treat 90% as his best case, not a guaranteed number.

The video calls breakables "golden jars" and "golden statues". City Never Sleeps renamed them Buff Containers, and the video's "centers" are Sinner's Sacrifice machines. The wiki confirms that buffs picked up after 30 minutes are the strongest, including +1% cooldown reduction each.

Laning and farming the new map

free Your goal in lane is souls, not kills. Shoot the wave and land marks on the enemy whenever they step out of cover. If you can't stack two targets at once, pick the squishier one. Stop stacking when it pulls you out of position, because a greedy fourth mark is how Mirage dies early. Use Scarabs as your heal and save Dust Devil for escaping, not starting fights.

skip Don't fight over the mid buff before you have Ricochet. SwoleBenji says Mirage isn't strong in PvP or fast at farming until then, so taking it costs you more farm than it's worth.

For deciding where to go, SwoleBenji uses this order: an open solo lane first, then a Sinner's Sacrifice, then jungle camps and crates, then a teamfight, and a shared lane last.

aquatiq's main point about Mirage after City Never Sleeps is that he finally farms well. The neutral camps were reworked into Haunts that walk toward you, so you no longer have to chase them around. The update also added Tough Crates, which only open with a heavy melee. aquatiq calls them one of Mirage's best soul sources now. He says they always drop souls and saw single crates give over 200. That's his observation; the wiki doesn't list a drop rate. His heavy-melee timing tip: on the fast-moving crate, start the heavy punch when it reaches the middle.

Steam Vents hide you from enemy heroes and give a regen boost while you stand in them. The wiki lists +4.8 regen, which scales with spirit. aquatiq stands in them to top up between waves instead of walking back to base. Taking or dealing damage reveals you, and so does an enemy hero walking into the vent.

A post-patch build from aquatiq's game

aquatiq didn't show a build page, so we read his item bar from the gameplay frames. The items we can identify are Mystic Regeneration and Healbane early, then Mystic Vulnerability, Titanic Magazine and Ricochet. After that he added Toxic Bullets, Escalating Exposure, Spirit Burn and Siphon Bullets, with Silencer in the shop queue late in the game. A few tier 2 and tier 3 icons in his bar were too small for us to identify with confidence, so we've left them out.

His choices on the October map line up with SwoleBenji's core build: Ricochet early, then spirit amplification and anti-heal. One difference is that he takes Siphon Bullets before Inhibitor. He says he prefers Siphon because frontliners now have so much health. He doesn't explain his early Healbane in the video. It's a cheap source of anti-heal, which probably explains it. If your team already has someone building Inhibitor, Siphon is the better pick for you.

Teamfights: spread the marks, stay in the back

In a teamfight, stand behind your frontline and shoot whoever you can hit. Ricochet does the aiming for you. With Toxic Bullets, Spirit Burn and Inhibitor all applying healing reduction, any enemy you touch heals far less. Let marks run to full stacks on targets who back away, and pop them early only to finish someone who's about to escape. Mystic Reverb on Djinn's Mark adds a 32% slow and an extra burst of damage around the target 3 seconds after you hit them. SwoleBenji calls it his way of "getting kills after the fight is over".

skip Don't stand at the front of the fight. Both videos show Mirage dying when he walks into the middle of the enemy team. If the fight turns against you, Dust Devil out, then Traveler away from a safe spot.

How to counter Mirage (and what he beats)

If you're playing against him:

  • Cleanse the marks. The wiki marks Djinn's Mark and Fire Scarabs as dispellable. Dispel Magic (formerly Debuff Remover) or a Divine Barrier from a teammate clears a full stack before it goes off. Debuff resist shortens both effects.
  • Break line of sight. Each new mark needs another bullet hit after a 2.75s cooldown, so hiding behind cover between peeks stops the stacking. As aquatiq points out, the open City Never Sleeps map makes this harder.
  • Hit him during Traveler. The 2 second wait is visible on the map. Damage from a hero cancels the teleport.
  • Itemize against his tools. Slowing Hex disables Dust Devil. Unstoppable ignores its crowd control and the Scarabs' spirit damage penalty.
  • Burst him early. He starts at 730 health and needs Ricochet before he farms well, so pressure in lane delays his whole build.

Mirage is strongest against heroes who rely on healing, and against teams that group up tightly, because Ricochet marks several enemies at once.

How this guide was fact-checked

Ability numbers, upgrade effects and the July 2026 changes come from the deadlock.wiki Mirage page and its update history. The wiki has no separate abilities page for Mirage, so the hero page was the source. Item stats and the changes listed by date come from each item's wiki page and the patch notes for July 28, September 16, September 29 and October 2 to October 16, 2026. The build order, skill order, Ricochet timing and the souls benchmarks come from SwoleBenji's video and the build panel shown on screen. The new-map farming advice and the second build come from aquatiq's October 7 video. His item bar was read from frames, and anything we couldn't identify was left out.

Corrections made to the source video: Fire Scarabs T2 is now +1 charge and +2s duration, not +2 charges. The Golden Goose Egg is now -15% damage and 80 souls per minute. Spirit Burn is single-target with a 50-damage explosion. Tankbuster no longer triggers from items and deals 7.5% current-health damage. Mercurial Magnum was nerfed. "Golden statues" are now Buff Containers. The 400-soul hatching steps and the 7,000-damage and 90%-reduction figures are attributed to the video and were not confirmed by the wiki. aquatiq's mention of the Broker and corrupted items is left out, because the wiki says the Broker was removed from standard and ranked modes on October 2.

What this guide doesn't answer

  • Exact Djinn's Mark damage at a given spirit power. It depends on enemy resists and amp stacks, and we didn't test it in the sandbox.
  • A tier placement for Mirage. This page gives no rank, and aquatiq's view that Mirage is strong right now is one player's opinion.
  • Coordinated party play. Both builds are designed for solo queue. A team with a dedicated Inhibitor or Silencer buyer changes your item choices.
  • Street Brawl. The Golden Goose Egg is disabled there and Traveler has a 110s cooldown, so the farming plan doesn't apply.
  • Where every Haunt and Tough Crate spawns. That's a map guide's job, and the layout is still being adjusted after City Never Sleeps.

Frequently asked

What is the best Mirage build in Deadlock right now?

Rush Ricochet by about 10-12 minutes after Golden Goose Egg, Extended Magazine and Titanic Magazine, then Sprint Boots, Enduring Speed and Fortitude for mobility, Compress and Superior Cooldown, and spirit damage (Escalating Exposure, Spirit Burn, Mystic Reverb, Boundless Spirit, Toxic Bullets). Finish with Silencer, Inhibitor and Juggernaut, and late swap into Mercurial Magnum and Siphon Bullets. No Mirage ability changed after July 28, 2026.

What is the Mirage skill order in Deadlock?

Unlock Fire Scarabs first, then Djinn's Mark, Dust Devil and Traveler. Max Djinn's Mark first, put two points into Fire Scarabs (T1 and T2), then max Traveler, then max Dust Devil, and take the Fire Scarabs T3 last.

How does Djinn's Mark work?

Your bullets apply a Djinn's Mark with a 2.75 second per-target cooldown, and every extra mark doubles the stored damage, up to 4 marks (5 with T3). When the marks expire or you activate the ability, they deal spirit damage based on your current spirit power and reveal the target on the minimap for 6 seconds. Counterspell and Plated Armor do not block it, but it can be dispelled.

Why do Mirage players buy Ricochet so early?

Ricochet makes each bullet bounce to 2 nearby enemies within 13m for 65% damage and applies bullet procs, so every bounce also lands a Djinn's Mark. It speeds up wave and jungle clear and lets you mark several heroes in a teamfight at once, which is why Mirage builds rush it around 10-12 minutes.

How do you counter Mirage in Deadlock?

Dispel his marks with Dispel Magic or a teammate's Divine Barrier, break line of sight between peeks so marks can't stack, and damage him during Traveler's 2 second wait to cancel the teleport. Slowing Hex disables his Dust Devil tornado, Unstoppable ignores its crowd control, and early lane pressure delays his Ricochet.
