# WARNO EW Plane Uses: Radar Spotting, SEAD Support, and Bomber Cover

> How to use WARNO EW planes: the 20% radar AA accuracy penalty, covering a bomber, and spotting AA for artillery. It is for players already flying attack aircraft who want a cheaper way through radar AA than a SEAD plane.

An EW plane in WARNO never shoots anything down. It projects a circle that cuts radar AA weapon accuracy by 20%, reveals AA without giving the opponent a notification, and costs far less than the alternatives, which makes it a screen for a bomber and a spotter for artillery rather than a cheap SEAD plane. This guide covers how to fly one just ahead of a bomber, why that cover fails when the spacing is wrong, and what to send at the radar AA it finds.

## Quick answer

| What | Answer |
| --- | --- |
| Radar AA accuracy | Down 20% while the radar AA is inside the EW plane's circle |
| Can it shoot back | No. It spots radar AA and fires no missile |
| Starting veterancy | Two veterancy on many EW planes; the Prowler is noted as an exception |
| Veterancy bonus | 8% evasive maneuvers, so a 60% ECM plane counts as roughly 70% ECM |
| Cost against a CV plane | A CV plane would cost 100 points more |
| Removing spotted AA | A bomber during the air strike, or artillery after the reveal |
| Spotting alert | None. The opponent gets no notification that the AA was spotted |

## What WARNO EW planes do

An EW plane projects a large circle around itself that reduces radar AA weapon accuracy by 20% when the radar AA is inside that circle. Use that radius as a moving support zone, not as a weapon, because the EW aircraft spots radar AA but does not fire a missile back at it.

EW planes are generally much cheaper than the alternatives. Many of them also arrive at two veterancy, with the Prowler noted as an exception. Two veterancy adds 8% evasive maneuvers, and for planning you can treat a 60% ECM EW plane with that bonus as roughly 70% ECM.

The useful pattern is simple: put the EW plane where radar AA has to interact with it, then send the killing unit separately. That killing unit can be a bomber during the air strike, or artillery after the EW plane has revealed the radar AA.

## EW plane vs SEAD plane

| Plane type | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **EW plane** | An EW plane spots radar AA, can draw fire, and cannot shoot back. Its value comes from the radar-AA accuracy penalty, lower cost, and the ability to reveal targets for other weapons. |
| **SEAD plane** | A SEAD plane spots radar AA and fires at it. If it attacks, the enemy AA position is alerted by the shot, and the SEAD plane may need to get closer depending on the aircraft. |

## Bomber cover with an EW plane

<ol class="checklist">
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Send the EW plane first so it flies just ahead of the bomber.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Keep the enemy radar AA inside the EW plane’s circle while the bomber approaches.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Let radar AA fire interact with the EW plane’s jamming zone while the bomber lines up the attack.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Aim the strike at the AA if that is the target you need removed.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">EVAC the EW plane after it comes in.</span></label>
  </li>
</ol>

If the timing works, the EW plane can protect a bomber from TOR missile fire. The same screen can also protect a Canberra while enemy fire targets the EW plane instead of the bomber.

### When bomber cover fails

<div class="tipbox alt"><span class="tag">Watch out</span>

**Keep the EW plane close to the bomber**

Bomber cover can fail when the bomber is too far behind the EW plane. If the first missile goes into the EW plane and the bomber arrives late, the radar AA can reload and fire again before the bomber finishes the attack. Better micro keeps the EW plane just in front of the bomber, not far ahead of it.

## Spotting radar AA with an EW plane

<ol class="checklist">
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Fly the EW plane over the area where you expect radar AA.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Watch for radar AA revealed by the EW plane’s spotting.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Do not rely on the EW plane to kill the revealed unit, because it has no missile.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Use artillery on the spotted radar AA if it stays in place.</span></label>
  </li>
</ol>

An EW plane can reveal an AA piece without giving the opponent a notification that it has been spotted. That makes the follow-up different from a SEAD shot: once something fires at the AA, the target has a clear reason to move, but a spotted-only radar AA piece may stay where it is.

## EW plane scouting after the first reveal

<ol class="checklist">
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Leave the EW plane active after the first radar AA reveal if the airspace is still useful.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Use it to draw shots when you need enemy units exposed for bombers.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Make passes on your side of the map to keep revealing enemies without committing another attack plane immediately.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">Use new information from those passes to decide where the next bomber run goes.</span></label>
  </li>
  <li>
    <label><input type="checkbox"><span class="name">If the EW plane confirms that an area has no AA, use that information to support a strike somewhere else.</span></label>
  </li>
</ol>

Seeing another TOR confirms that another TOR is on the field. That information changes the next air route even if you do not kill it immediately.

## Cheap EW plane benefits

<div class="tipbox"><span class="tag">Takeaway</span>

EW planes are cost-efficient support aircraft when you use them as radar-AA spotters, bomber screens, and jamming platforms rather than as worse SEAD planes. Their lower price matters because a CV plane would cost 100 points more, and in a deck like HDR a 175-point bomber makes that difference significant. The best use is not only to cover the bomber, but also to reveal radar AA so another weapon can remove it.

## FAQ

### What are electronic warfare aircraft in WARNO?

Electronic warfare aircraft are support planes that interfere with radar AA instead of killing it directly. They reveal radar AA and apply a 20% accuracy penalty to radar AA inside their circle, but they do not shoot a SEAD missile.

### Does the enemy know when an EW plane spots their radar AA?

No. An EW plane can reveal an AA piece without giving the opponent a notification that it has been spotted, so a spotted-only radar AA piece may stay where it is. That is what makes the follow-up different from a SEAD shot: once something fires at the AA, the target has a clear reason to move.

### What veterancy do WARNO EW planes start at?

Many EW planes arrive at two veterancy, with the Prowler noted as an exception. Two veterancy adds 8% evasive maneuvers, so for planning you can treat a 60% ECM EW plane with that bonus as roughly 70% ECM.

### What should kill the radar AA once an EW plane has found it?

Not the EW plane, because it has no missile and cannot shoot back. Send the killing unit separately: a bomber during the air strike, or artillery after the EW plane has revealed the radar AA, if it stays in place.
