# WARNO Beginner Deck Guide: Easy Decks and Comparisons for New Players

> How to pick a WARNO deck by division rather than by NATO or Pact side, using four playstyle categories to judge how much micro each one demands. It is written for new and mid-level players choosing what to play, and covers which decks to delay at first, why airborne and light spam are harder, and how a reservist-spam deck is meant to be pushed.

WARNO's deck screen gets easier to read once you stop sorting it into NATO and Pact and start judging the individual division. This guide sorts decks into four playstyle categories - airborne, heavy tank, mech or medium tank, and reservist-spam - and says how much unit control each one asks of you. By the end you will know which decks to delay while your micro improves, and what a reservist-spam game actually asks you to do.

## Quick answer

| What | Answer |
| --- | --- |
| Pick by | The individual division, not the NATO or Pact side |
| Four categories | Airborne, heavy tank, mech or medium tank, reservist-spam |
| Delay at first | Airborne divisions and light spam divisions |
| Lower-micro option | The conservative heavy tank approach |
| What makes them hard | Reliance on ATGMs and infantry |
| Reservist-spam | Numbers over quality, aggressive pushes, several fights at once |
| Cheap aircraft | An 80-point plane |

## Division choice matters more than NATO or Pact

| How to pick a deck | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| **Picking by side** | Do not treat NATO and Pact as two clean playstyle buckets. A NATO vs Pact deck question is too broad, because the side alone does not tell you how the individual division will play. |
| **Picking by division** | Start with the individual division. Division choice is the stronger signal for how your deck plays, how much micro it asks from you, and whether the deck fits a newer player. |

## The four deck categories

Use four broad deck categories as a practical playstyle framework:

| Category | What it means for deck choice |
| --- | --- |
| **Airborne** | A light, high-micro category that newer players should usually delay. |
| **Heavy tank** | The conservative comparison point for armored play. |
| **Mech or medium tank** | Judge it by the individual division rather than by NATO or Pact side. |
| **Reservist-spam** | A numbers-first category built around many cheap units and trades. |

These categories are not strict labels. They are a way to sort divisions by how they tend to play and how difficult they are to manage, not a rule that every division belongs to one box forever.

## Decks newer players should avoid at first

How to choose

**Delay the highest-micro divisions**

If you are new or mid-level, avoid airborne divisions and light spam divisions at first. Pick them later, after your micro improves and you understand the game well enough to manage attention-heavy tools.

Do not read that as “these decks are weak.” They take more time and understanding to play well.

## Why airborne and light spam are harder

Watch out

**These decks punish slow control**

Airborne divisions and light spam decks are generally harder for newer players because they rely more on ATGMs and infantry. That puts more pressure on your unit control than a more conservative armored approach, and the deck only works well when you can keep those tools active without losing track of the wider fight.

## Reservist-spam playstyle

Play for numbers, not quality. Your goal is to create more problems than the opponent can answer cleanly.

Push aggressively instead of waiting for perfect trades. This style is not built around sitting back like a heavy tank deck.

Fight across the map. A spam deck asks you to manage several engagements at once rather than one tidy armored push.

Expect casualties. You are choosing a style where trading units is part of the plan, not a sign that the plan has failed.

Keep the pressure high enough to overwhelm the opponent. When handled well, the number of fights and units can break a player who cannot shoot everything in time.

## Aircraft in micro-intensive decks

Tip

**Cheap planes still need orders**

Even the aircraft in these micro-intensive decks need attention. An 80-point plane is cheap enough that losing one is not a huge disaster, but throwing planes away carelessly still wastes points you could have used to keep pressure on the map.

## FAQ

### Can one division fit more than one category?

Yes. Many divisions overlap between two categories. SED is the clean example: it fits the spam category because it has lots of stuff and cheap tanks, but it also has airborne tools such as Green Berets and Fallschirmjäger.

### Why can spam decks overwhelm heavy tank decks?

Against some heavy tank decks, a spam deck can run them over quickly because the heavy tank player may not have enough units on the board to shoot every target.

### Do the four deck categories put every WARNO division in a fixed box?

No. The categories are not strict labels, they are a way to sort divisions by how they tend to play and how difficult they are to manage. Treat them as a practical framework rather than a rule that every division belongs to one box forever.

### Does it matter if I lose a cheap plane in a micro-heavy deck?

An 80-point plane is cheap enough that losing one is not a huge disaster, but the aircraft in these decks still need orders. Throwing planes away carelessly wastes points you could have spent keeping pressure on the map.
