## 🎯 The core idea

> Most WARDOGS matches are not decided by who has the best shooters but by who controls where the fight happens and how the enemy gets there. Pull the hot zone toward your side, shut the enemy's flight paths and roads, spot for the people already in the zone, and build away from the obvious towers. Season 02 made every one of these tactics more expensive, so plan the cost before you buy.

<ul class="legend"><li><span class="badge free">free</span> costs nothing</li>
<li><span class="badge cheap">cheap</span> small cost</li>
<li><span class="badge setup">setup</span> needs preparation</li>
<li><span class="badge grind">grind</span> pays off slowly</li>
<li><span class="badge skip">skip</span> the thing to stop doing</li></ul>

This WARDOGS strategy guide covers ten team and zone tactics from Gigabeef's 32-minute video *10 WARDOGS Strategies That Will Make The Enemy HATE You*. He uploaded it on 2 September 2026, during the closed beta and before Early Access launched on 10 September, so the prices and build costs in it are beta values. Season 02 (Update 0.2.0, live 15 October 2026) changed almost all of them, and each section below says what changed. If you are brand new, start with the [WARDOGS guide for beginners](/guides/wardogs-beginner-guide) first; this page assumes you know how to buy a loadout and get to the zone. More guides for the game are on the [WARDOGS hub](/games/wardogs).

## How the control zone is won

![WARDOGS tactical map showing the green control zone and team positions](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1340_Qduo4ak.webp)

<span class="badge free">free</span> Every tactic here comes back to one scoring rule. According to the WARDOGS wiki, three teams fight over a randomly placed control zone of about 2×2 km inside the larger map. Every 30 seconds the team with the most players inside the zone scores one point, and the first team to 100 points wins. The zone moves from match to match, so the roads, bridges and good building spots change every game.

Inside the WARDOGS control zone sits a smaller hot zone that moves around. Players in the hot zone count double toward their team's head count and earn double cash. So the question that wins a match is less "how many of us are fighting" and more "where is the hot zone, and how many of our players are standing in it".

There are two ways to move the hot zone. Capture the drill towers around the map, collect the code parts from them (the video says there are five) and enter the full code at one tower; the hot zone then moves to that tower for a while. Or build your own drill rig, which is the first tactic below. Gigabeef also notes that when a team reaches 20 points, its Spawn Vehicle appears in base and someone has to drive it in, which matters for the drone tactic later on.

## Drill rig pushes that keep the hot zone on your side

![Placing a large FOB structure with the Large Hammer in WARDOGS, build supply counter visible](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0130_PXlMZvI.webp)

<span class="badge setup">setup</span> The drill rig pulls the hot zone to wherever you built it, for as long as its fuel lasts. Unlike every other buildable, the video says it can only go inside the control zone, and it has to be built in a FOB's build area: your own FOB, or a teammate's.

What you need: a Forward Operating Base, the Large Hammer, build supplies for the rig and fuel to run it. Two prices in the video are out of date. The FOB cost $2,500 in the beta; the Season 1 launch changelog raised it to $7,500, and Season 02 kept that. The Large Hammer now sits at Support level 8 and costs $2,400 at the vendor. How to place and protect the base itself is in the [WARDOGS FOB guide](/guides/wardogs-fob).

Gigabeef's best version needs two or three players. Build two rigs fairly close together on your side of the zone and start the second as soon as the first runs out, so the hot zone never leaves. Early in a season, before the enemy has mortars or artillery unlocked, he found this simply won games. The counter is long-range explosives, so build the rigs out of sight rather than in the open.

Season 02 went straight at this tactic. The patch notes say the changes are meant to make multi-rig builds less dominant, without removing them: the minimum fuel to start a rig went from 1,500 to 2,000, the maximum uptime fell from 375 to 300 seconds, and a destroyed rig now has a much longer cooldown before it can be built again. A two-rig chain still works, but it needs a lot more fuel and a team ready to hold the spot.

## Fuel and supplies for one drill rig run

![Ural truck loaded with supply pallets at the WARDOGS base vendor area](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0250_qcnUbes.webp)

<span class="badge cheap">cheap</span> The video's plan was a single Ural run: one pallet of build supplies plus one pallet of fuel, since a Ural carries two pallets. That no longer works. Gigabeef says a fresh FOB comes with 1,250 build supplies and 100 each of fuel, ammo and parts, and that a Ural pallet holds 1,800. Neither number is in the patch notes, but the 1,250 matches the supply counter on screen. Here is the fuel maths for each version of the game:

| Drill rig fuel | Beta (video) | Season 01 | Season 02 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Minimum to start | 1,200 | 1,500 | 2,000 |
| Maximum fuel | 6,000 | 7,500 | 10,000 |
| Maximum uptime | not given | 375 s | 300 s |
| One 1,800 fuel pallet | about 220 s (measured) | about 90 s | can't start the rig |

In Season 02 one fuel pallet is 200 short of the minimum, so you need two fuel pallets (a full Ural) for roughly 110 seconds of drilling. A full 10,000 fuel gives the 300-second cap. Bring build supplies on a separate run or from a teammate.

The build cost is unclear. Gigabeef quotes roughly 1,800 build supplies for the rig in the beta. The Season 02 cost list has no "drill rig" entry; the only hot-zone building it names is the Hot Zone Magnet, raised from 2,250 to 2,750 build supplies. Check the build menu before you set off. Either way, a FOB's 1,250 plus one supply pallet covers it.

Supply pallets are also no longer free to use. Season 02 moved them onto the WARDOG track: mechanical at level 5 ($10k), ammo at level 9 ($25k) and fuel at level 16 ($50k). Unload pallets inside the FOB's build radius, because the video says you can't pick them up again once they are on the ground.

## Talon ambush on the enemy's flight path

![WARDOGS Talon anti-air sight locking onto a target over the forest](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0640_QvTc86Y.webp)

<span class="badge setup">setup</span> The map is big, and most players reach the zone by helicopter, flying in a fairly straight line from their spawn. Only drill rigs have to be inside the control zone, so you can put a FOB with a Talon anti-air launcher halfway along that line and shoot transport helicopters before they unload. Gigabeef did this alone.

Put the FOB box out of sight. The build area is large, so the Talon can stand well away from the box. What matters is a clear view of the sky. Trees, buildings and pylons break the lock, so the best spot is the edge of a forest overlooking the route, not directly underneath it. Once locked, wait a second to see whether the pilot fires flares (they hear the lock warning), then fire. Expect revenge after two or three kills, and keep the Ural nearby so you can drive away.

This is the tactic Season 02 hit hardest:

- **Build cost:** 801 build supplies in the beta, 1,000 in Season 01, 650 now. A fresh FOB still covers it.
- **Reload:** 2 seconds before, 5 now, which gives pilots time to flare again between shots.
- **Ammo:** each restock used 50 munition supplies, now 200. The video's 74 missiles from two ammo pallets (plus the FOB's 100) works out to about 18 now.
- **Payback:** Gigabeef said one helicopter kill pays for the FOB. At $7,500 for a FOB plus $2,400 for the hammer, only armed helicopters come close: destroying an MH-6 pays $1,250, a Z20 Lakota $1,500, a Little Bird with miniguns $6,000 and a Havoc $14,000.

Season 02 also added the Flakpanzer Gepard (Driver level 25, $14,000 at the vendor), which gives you anti-air that can move. Full anti-air builds are in the WARDOGS SAM site guide.

## Mobile anti-air with a Kodiak full of Verbas

![WARDOGS Kodiak vehicle inventory filled with Verba anti-air launchers](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0775.webp)

<span class="badge cheap">cheap</span> If you don't want to sink money into a building that can't move, carry the missiles in a car. The 9K333 Verba is a one-shot portable anti-air launcher. It is too bulky to carry several, but the video shows that vehicle inventories work differently: each of the base Kodiak's 12 slots holds one item whatever its size. Twelve Verbas in the car plus one on your back gives you 13 shots. Gigabeef put each launcher at about $800, so a full load is just over $10,000.

Take a wrench for engine damage and a fuel can if you'll be out a long time. The fuel can refuels a vehicle by hand; fuel supplies are only for FOBs, drill rigs and fuel stations. Sit inside a tree line under a flight route so the launches are hard to trace, then drive to the other side when the pilots change course. Hit the team that is closest to winning, not the closest team.

Season 02 notes: the Verba now unlocks at Support level 14 (was 16). Bought vehicles' inventories are now private to the driver and their squad by default, so a passing stranger can't empty your launcher stash. The video also suggests switching teams to surprise the enemy a second time. Season 02 made that harder: once a team is more than 10 points ahead, you can't switch again for 15 minutes after joining one, and anyone who switches has a hidden map and can't use the Spawn Vehicle until they first reach the control zone.

## RPG ambushes outside enemy spawn routes

![WARDOGS Kodiak Pickup inventory with RPG rockets stored in the car slots](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1100_TtlRuG0.webp)

<span class="badge cheap">cheap</span> The same car trick works against ground vehicles with the RPG-7. Rockets take a 1×3 space in a backpack, which normally limits you to a handful, but each one fills only one Kodiak slot. Gigabeef paid $2,000 for the launcher in the beta and about $200 per rocket. The Season 02 vendor price for the RPG-7 is $1,800.

His best load uses the Kodiak [Pickup]: 6 car slots plus a logistics crate in the back with 8 more, then one rocket loaded and two in a cheap bag, for 17 in total. Deploying the crate is permanent, so use the rockets in the car first, then drop the crate somewhere safe and move its rockets into the car.

Park about 100 m down the road from an enemy spawn, where you know vehicles will come out. In his tests a Kodiak died to one rocket and a Ural took more than two. Don't sprint while reloading: it cancels the reload and you start again, which almost cost him a kill. Season 02 changed what kills are worth: a default Kodiak now pays $500, a Kodiak [Pickup] $600, a Ural $1,000 and a Ural Defender $3,600. Where to aim on each vehicle is covered in the WARDOGS vehicle weak points guide.

## Early armed-vehicle rush on the hot zone

![Kodiak Pickup driving toward the control zone in WARDOGS](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1205_jbYcHel.webp)

<span class="badge setup">setup</span> This one needs two players and an armed car: the Kodiak [M249], the Humvee [M249] or the Humvee [Minigun]. One player buys and drives, the other takes the gun, and you drive straight through players walking into the hot zone or setting up FOBs. It works best in the first minutes of a match, before spotters, tanks and walls are in place. Gigabeef got caught by exactly this while carrying RPGs. Buy extra ammo into the vehicle, because they come with only a little.

Season 02 made the rush cost more and pay the enemy more. The Kodiak [M249] went from $3,750 to $6,750, the Humvee [M249] from $3,750 to $8,500 (now Driver level 24) and the Humvee [Minigun] from $4,500 to $10,000. Destroying one now pays the enemy $3,400, $4,250 and $5,000. The patch also cut the minigun's damage along with the other high-calibre rounds. Hit early, then leave before the enemy has its RPGs out.

## Cutting enemy logistics routes with hedgehogs

![WARDOGS build menu showing the Hedgehog anti-vehicle barrier and its supply cost](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1300_oDNxiNw.webp)

<span class="badge cheap">cheap</span> The zone moves every match, so at the start of each game look at the map for each enemy team's bottlenecks: the bridge, crossing or road that their trucks have to use. The Hedgehog tank trap blocks vehicles until someone breaks it with a hammer or explosives, and a pure transport driver often has neither. The on-screen build menu calls it an anti-vehicle barrier that does not need a FOB. It cost 14 build supplies in the beta footage, though Gigabeef says 19 out loud. Carry a stack of build supplies, use a basic hammer, and either leave or wait in the trees with an RPG.

The stronger version mixes anti-tank mines between the traps in an S-bend so drivers can't steer round them. Gigabeef hadn't unlocked mines and gives no details. An IED works earlier but needs you there to set it off, with a noticeable delay; try it in the firing range first. Details are in the WARDOGS IED guide.

Season 02 adds one catch: tank traps can only be placed on a defined set of surfaces. Check that the bridge you have in mind accepts them before you drive out. Also, explosives and placeables can no longer be used from enclosed vehicle seats.

## Forward observer spotting for the players already in the zone

![Looking through WARDOGS binoculars while tracking an enemy target at 203 m](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1450_8AioOLE.webp)

<span class="badge free">free</span> If ten teammates are already in the hot zone, an eleventh rifle adds little. A spotter watching the routes into it makes all ten better. Normal pings only reach your own squad. Tagging an enemy through binoculars puts them on the minimap for the whole team. You see all marks through the glasses; teammates see them on the minimap only, not above heads. It is quiet work: unlike a sniper you never fire, so people walk right past you.

Kit: binoculars go in the special slot. The monocular sits in the bag at 2 slots instead of 4 and can still be hotkeyed, which frees the special slot for an RPG, Verba or Large Hammer. Add a cheap rifle if you don't plan to fight. Spot helicopter landings, troop moves, tanks, FOBs and Spawn Vehicles. The tactic loses value once several teammates are already spotting, because somebody has to kill what gets marked.

Season 02 changes for spotters:

- Binoculars went from $75 to $180 and the monocular from $150 to $350.
- Spotting pays about 30% less than in Season 01, and the reward now scales with the value of the target, so tanks and big buildings pay more than a lone soldier.
- Gigabeef's funny bonus, getting paid when a third team kills a target you marked, still exists but dropped from 50% to 25% of the reward.
- Rain, new in Season 02, shortens spotting range.

The money side of spotting is in the [WARDOGS money guide](/guides/wardogs-money).

## Stingray drones against tanks and Spawn Vehicles

![WARDOGS Stingray drone camera flying over a valley and bridge](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1600_6IhKNYO.webp)

<span class="badge grind">grind</span> Once there are spotters but not enough people killing what they mark, the Stingray launch station is the answer for tanks and Spawn Vehicles. It is a fixed-wing drone, not a quadcopter, so it turns slowly. The in-game tooltip says it is a reloadable station for long-range explosive anti-armour UAVs, the drones are bought with cash and mechanical supplies, and only one can be in the air at a time. Gigabeef says each drone cost 900 mechanical supplies and $5,000 in the beta, so two mechanical pallets bought four. Those drone prices are not in the patch notes.

Because the drone launches from a mortar tube and climbs high, you can build the station outside the zone where nobody patrols. What worked for other players, according to the video: mark the target first, fly out of the zone, turn round and follow your marker in. The drone is very good against tanks that sit still in a fight and against Spawn Vehicles with no escort, which is why the 20-point Spawn Vehicle spawn is worth watching for. It struggles with moving helicopters.

Season 02 raised the Stingray station from 150 to 650 build supplies (the beta footage shows 121), and mechanical pallets now need WARDOG level 5. The payoff went up too: a destroyed L2A6 now pays $11,000 and a T-72B3 $8,000.

## Paratrooper raids on defended FOBs and towers

![Helicopter flying over a forested valley toward the WARDOGS combat zone](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1800.webp)

<span class="badge setup">setup</span> When a FOB or tower is too well defended from the ground, drop on it from the air. Gigabeef's idea for pilots without a squad: buy a stack of parachutes, hand them to whoever boards, then fly over the target and drop them. Bring a Halligan bar (he calls it a crowbar) to pry open FOB doors instead of blowing through Hesco walls, which are very hard to destroy.

Season 02 changed nearly every detail here:

- **Parachutes:** the Basic Parachute went from $100 to $500 and the steerable Sport Parachute from $1,000 to $700 (WARDOG level 34). Gigabeef's advice for the basic one, which can't be steered, was to open it late in the drop. That is risky now: parachutes take longer to open, won't open below about 10 m, and opening below about 50 m while falling fast still means fall damage.
- **Halligan bar:** he says it opens four or five doors but not the big gates. It now has 7 uses, breaches both doors and gates, costs $885 and pays $100 per door breached. Hammers can no longer breach doors or gates.

Squad roles for a raid like this are in the WARDOGS squad guide.

## Why building everything at the towers loses games

![Hesco wall corridor inside a tower FOB in the WARDOGS control zone](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1860.webp)

<span class="badge skip">skip</span> Gigabeef's tenth point is to stop obsessing over the WARDOGS towers. He gets why teams build there: there's a free drill with the code, the tower stands on natural high ground, and holding it stops the enemy getting your code part. But for drill rigs, mortars, Talons or drones, a tower is the worst spot on the map. Everyone knows where your base is, so it gets checked first, shelled by mortars and artillery, and picked at by snipers looking for players busy building.

The alternative is several small FOBs, each with one job (one Talon on a flight route, one Stingray outside the zone, one rig pair on your side), as long as the team knows what each one is for. Builders will drift toward FOBs inside the zone because they earn passive cash there. Choose each site on purpose.

Season 02 adds weight to both sides of this. Capturing a hostile drill tower now pays $1,500 and 300 XP (was $750 and 250), so towers are worth taking. But destroying a FOB now pays a bonus of up to $7,500 based on the supplies inside, so a big, well-stocked tower FOB is a jackpot for the enemy. FOBs are also no longer cheap at $7,500, so "several small FOBs" now means pooling money with teammates.

## Season 02 changes to these tactics at a glance

![Hitting a build critical spot with a hammer on a WARDOGS FOB structure](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0300_KcJLWoQ.webp)

<span class="badge free">free</span> The video was recorded in the closed beta. These are the numbers that changed by Season 02, from the official patch notes and the Season 1 launch changelog:

| Item | Video (beta) | Now (Season 02) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Forward Operating Base | $2,500 | $7,500 |
| Large Hammer | Support 7 | Support 8, $2,400 |
| Drill rig minimum fuel | 1,200 | 2,000 |
| Drill rig max uptime | not given | 300 s |
| Talon build cost | 801 | 650 |
| Talon reload / restock | 2 s / 50 | 5 s / 200 |
| Stingray station build cost | 121 | 650 |
| RPG-7 | $2,000 | $1,800 |
| Binoculars / monocular | $75 / $150 | $180 / $350 |
| Spotted kill by another team | 50% | 25% |
| Basic / Sport Parachute | cheap / $1,000 | $500 / $700 |
| Halligan bar | 4–5 doors, no gates | 7 uses, doors and gates |
| Supply pallets (mech / ammo / fuel) | default | WARDOG 5 / 9 / 16 |

Two more Season 02 changes affect match tactics in general. The losing team gets 20% off at the vendor once it is at least 40 points behind second place, and Lonestar (blue) gets a cash and XP win bonus for this season only. Every other change is in the [WARDOGS Season 2 patch notes breakdown](/guides/wardogs-season-2).

## How this guide was fact-checked

- **Source video:** Gigabeef, *10 WARDOGS Strategies That Will Make The Enemy HATE You* (32 min, uploaded 2 September 2026, recorded in the closed beta). The tactics, positioning advice, Kodiak slot counts, rockets per vehicle, Verba and rocket prices, Stingray drone cost, the five tower code parts, the 20-point Spawn Vehicle, the FOB's 1,250 starting supplies and the 1,800-per-pallet figure come from the video and are credited to it.
- **Official Season 02 patch notes (14 October 2026):** drill rig fuel, uptime and cooldown; build costs for the Talon, Stingray and Hot Zone Magnet; Talon reload and restock; pallet unlock levels; parachute, Halligan bar, binocular, monocular, RPG-7 and armed vehicle prices; spotting reward changes; vehicle kill rewards; tower capture and FOB destruction rewards; team switching limits; tank trap surfaces; private vehicle inventories; the losing-team discount and Lonestar bonus.
- **Season 1 launch changelog (9 September 2026):** FOB price $2,500 to $7,500 and the Large Hammer at Support level 8 for $2,400.
- **WARDOGS wiki (Fandom, Game Mechanics and Game Modes pages):** the 2×2 km control zone, one point every 30 seconds, the 100-point win, the hot zone's double head count and double cash, tower codes, the drill rig mechanic and the Ural's two pallets.
- **On-screen in the video:** the Hedgehog build menu (14 supplies, no FOB needed) and the Stingray tooltip (121 supplies, one active UAV).
- **Corrections to the video:** FOB $7,500 not $2,500; one fuel pallet can no longer start a drill rig (2,000 minimum, not 1,200); the Talon shot count recalculated from 74 to about 18 at the new 200 restock; one helicopter kill no longer pays for a FOB unless it is an armed one; the basic parachute is no longer cheap and the last-second pull is now dangerous; the Halligan bar opens gates and has 7 uses; the Hedgehog cost on screen is 14, not the 19 he says; the third-team spotting payout is now 25%; team switching is restricted.
- **Not confirmed anywhere official:** the drill rig's exact Season 02 build cost (the patch notes list only the Hot Zone Magnet) and the size of a Ural pallet.

## What this guide doesn't answer

- **Base layout and wall placement:** a full topic of its own, covered in the FOB guide.
- **Exact Talon and Verba lock-on range:** the video only says it isn't unlimited, and no official number exists.
- **Anti-tank mine costs and unlock level:** Gigabeef hadn't unlocked them, and the patch notes don't list them.
- **Map-by-map chokepoints:** the zone moves every match, so a fixed list of bridges would mislead you; check the map at the start of each game.
- **Stingray flying technique:** the video admits he barely used it; treat the "mark, fly out, turn back" method as other players' advice, not a tested routine.
- **Mortar and artillery aiming:** they come up only as the counter to drill rigs here.

## FAQ

### What is the best strategy to win in WARDOGS?

Win the head count in the control zone, not just fights. Every 30 seconds the team with the most players in the 2x2 km zone scores a point, and players in the hot zone count double. Pull the hot zone toward your side with a drill rig or a tower code, spot the routes into it, and cut off enemy helicopters and trucks on their way in.

### How does the control zone work in WARDOGS?

Three teams fight over a randomly placed control zone of about 2x2 km. Every 30 seconds the team with the most players inside scores one point, and the first to 100 wins. A smaller, moving hot zone inside it counts each player double and pays double cash. Drill towers and player-built drill rigs pull the hot zone toward them.

### How much fuel does a drill rig need in WARDOGS Season 2?

Season 02 raised the minimum to start a drill rig from 1,500 to 2,000 fuel and the maximum to 10,000, and cut the maximum uptime from 375 to 300 seconds. One fuel pallet (1,800 according to Gigabeef) is no longer enough to start a rig, so bring two. A destroyed rig also takes much longer before it can be rebuilt.

### Should you build your FOB at a tower in WARDOGS?

Usually not for drill rigs, mortars, Talons or drones. A tower is the most obvious spot on the map, so it gets checked first and shelled. Towers are still worth capturing (a hostile drill tower pays $1,500 in Season 02), but destroying a FOB now pays up to $7,500 based on its supplies, so a well-stocked tower FOB is a big target.

### Is the Talon anti-air ambush still worth it after Season 2?

It still works but costs more to keep firing. The Talon is now 650 build supplies, but its reload went from 2 to 5 seconds and each restock uses 200 munition supplies instead of 50, so two ammo pallets give about 18 missiles instead of 74. With a FOB at $7,500, only armed helicopter kills come close to paying it back.
