# PoE2 Forbidden Rites Event Guide: 0.5.5 Rituals, Wildwood and the Trial of Chaos Rework

> Forbidden Rites is the Path of Exile 2 event league shipping with patch 0.5.5: a Ritual encounter in every campaign area, boss clusters that stack four bosses into one fight, a Wildwood side-area reached with the Sacred Bloom, eight event challenges, and a full Trial of Chaos rework. Tribute prices and challenge names here are read straight off the stream, and every claim is marked wiki-verified, frame-verified or unconfirmed.

## 🎯 The core idea

> Forbidden Rites is a Path of Exile 2 event league built on Ritual. It ships with patch 0.5.5, resets the economy, and puts a Ritual encounter in **every** campaign area — so tribute becomes your main source of levelling gear instead of a rare endgame treat. Alongside it come a rebuilt Trial of Chaos, a new Wildwood map mechanic, Abyssal Ravines on the Atlas, and eight event challenges. This guide walks the whole PoE2 0.5.5 feature list in the order you will actually meet it, and separates what is confirmed from what is still just a preview.

free costs nothing

cheap small cost

setup needs preparation

grind pays off slowly

skip the thing to stop doing

## What the Forbidden Rites event actually is

![Path of Exile 2 Forbidden Rites event feature list showing the 0.5.5 patch contents](/media/guides/markdown/cedabdc6-fa20-4d5b-95a5-901fe961e9fc.jpg)

Game Director Jonathan Rogers introduced Forbidden Rites as "a new event based on the Ritual League", releasing with the 0.5.5 update. It is explicitly **not** a full league — it is a shorter event with a fresh economy, running alongside the existing Runes of Aldur league, which keeps going for anyone who wants to finish their Atlas or challenges there.

The in-game splash screen gives a cleaner feature list than the narration does. Eight items are named on screen, and two of them are barely mentioned out loud:

Release timing is stated twice in the video and the two statements do not match. At 19:17 the event is "releasing next week along with the 0.5.5 update"; at 34:50 it "starts at the end of next week". At the time of writing, no exact date is posted on pathofexile.com or documented on the Path of Exile 2 Wiki, so treat the precise day as unconfirmed and watch the official patch-notes forum.

## Rituals in every campaign area: how the encounter works

![A Ritual altar encounter in a Path of Exile 2 campaign area with the ritual circle active](/media/guides/markdown/98e0c07a-4752-44a1-9429-a5c8ab4248a2.jpg)

The loop itself is the Ritual you already know. Kill the Nameless and their servants inside the marked circle, activate the effigy, and the monsters are revived by dark magic for a second fight — while the ritual's environmental plague tries to kill you. Killing the revived monsters sends their blood to the effigy as **tribute**.

The Path of Exile 2 Wiki confirms the base mechanic and adds a number the video never states: **each time a monster is revived it grants 25% less tribute than before.** That penalty is removed only by the Atlas notable Reinvigorated Sacrifices, which is an endgame passive — so in the campaign, dragging the same pack through repeat rituals has diminishing returns.

Clear the circle before touching the effigy free
Only monsters killed inside the marked area get resurrected and count toward tribute.

In the videoThe effigy is sitting in a normal area location here — that placement changes for the boss clusters covered further down, and it is the single easiest way to spot a cluster area on the world map.

## Spending tribute: the Favours shop in the campaign

![The Favours reward panel in a Path of Exile 2 campaign Ritual offering levelling equipment](/media/guides/markdown/0998b617-214a-4003-930f-1b77df180f75.jpg)

This is the biggest departure from endgame Ritual. Campaign rituals **do not** hand out Unique items. Instead the Favours panel offers things that are actually useful while levelling: crafting currency and a spread of equipment. Jonathan's framing is blunt — "in every area, you get to kill some monsters and then go on a small shopping spree."

The wiki documents one Favours mechanic the video skips entirely: besides rerolling the shop for tribute, you can **defer** a Favour, paying part of its cost to have it reappear later. If a good item is priced above your current tribute, deferring is the way to keep it in the pool.

Not in the videoThe wiki's Ritual reward table is written for endgame maps, where prices run from around 90 tribute at the bottom tier up to 29,000 for Mirror-tier rewards. It does not yet cover the campaign reward pool introduced by Forbidden Rites, so treat campaign pricing as unverified until 0.5.5 is live.

## Boss Ritual clusters: bosses that stack across areas

![A Ritual boss encounter in Path of Exile 2 with the area boss health bar shown](/media/guides/markdown/5e5823c0-3594-4cb7-91e2-dcfba1ea3dbc.jpg)

The interesting new structure. **Twice in each act, and once in each interlude part**, the world map shows a cluster of larger Ritual effigies. In those areas the effigy is not placed randomly — it sits **on top of the area's boss fight**.

Complete one, and that boss is carried forward into the next Ritual in the cluster. The example shown is the first cluster you meet:

| Cluster area | Bosses in that Ritual |
| --- | --- |
| Clearfell | The Hag |
| Mud Burrow | The Hag + The Devourer |
| The Grellwood | The Hag + The Devourer + Brambleghast |
| Grim Tangle | The above three + The Rotten Druid |

![The four-boss final Ritual showdown in Grim Tangle in Path of Exile 2](/media/guides/markdown/51e4a494-6f54-4242-8111-d1c3cf31503c.jpg)

By Grim Tangle you are fighting **four bosses in one encounter**. That escalating wave fight is the price of admission for the Unique rewards, which only appear at these cluster rituals.

Spot clusters on the world map before you enter setup
The cluster effigies are visibly larger on the map, so you can plan gear and flasks for the finale area.

The narration says "Mud Murrow" once and "Mud Burrow" elsewhere. The area is Mud Burrow; the other is a slip of the tongue.

## Ritual tribute numbers and Omens: what the screen shows

![The Favours panel in Path of Exile 2 showing 1,600 tribute and an Omen of Dextral Exaltation priced at 1,150 tribute](/media/guides/markdown/ef0ebb3e-3b08-4a83-bece-fe338a27ed77.jpg)

This frame is worth more than the voiceover around it. The Favours panel reads **1,600 Tribute** banked with **0 Rituals Remaining**, and the hovered reward is an **Omen of Dextral Exaltation** — "your next Exalted Orb will add only suffix modifiers" — priced at **1,150× Tribute**.

The Path of Exile 2 Wiki confirms that Omen name and wording exactly, and places it in reward bands spanning 270–780 and 900–2,600 tribute. The 1,150 price on screen sits inside that second band, so the frame and the wiki agree. Note also the button at the bottom of the panel: **Offer Tribute to the King** — a reminder that the King in the Mists is the entity behind all of this, and the pinnacle Ritual boss.

In the videoRituals in maps are guaranteed to contain at least one Omen, with a chance at a second. That is a wiki-documented rule, not an event change — but it is why tribute is worth banking rather than spending on the first thing you can afford.

## Unique rewards and the multiplayer tribute fix

![The Path of Exile 2 Favours panel showing 4,251 tribute and Unique item rewards with the reroll option locked](/media/guides/markdown/e8933ec2-d1c5-4a55-9cdf-dbcd07b9b969.jpg)

At a completed boss-cluster ritual the shop switches to Unique items, and the tribute pool gets much larger — this screen shows **4,251 Tribute** to spend. Look at the icon beside the counter: the reroll button is padlocked, which is the visual tell for the new party rules.

Historically only the area's creator could spend tribute; everyone else watched. In 0.5.5:

Every party member earns and spends their own tribute free
No one is locked out of the reward screen any more.

## The Sacred Bloom and the Wildwood

![A Wildwood entrance placed on an endgame map in Path of Exile 2](/media/guides/markdown/b98c5275-31d0-483a-a46b-3b26c1c8f610.jpg)

Endgame Ritual keeps its Unique items and Omens, and gains one new item on top. After completing endgame rituals, watch the Favours shop for a **Sacred Bloom**. Buy it with tribute, then use it to apply a **Wildwood entrance to any endgame map on your Atlas**. Enter that map and the entrance is waiting at the start of the area.

Worth knowing before you plan around itThe Wildwood is not brand new to Path of Exile 2. The wiki already documents Atlas passives tied to it — Between Two Worlds ("Ritual Altars in your Maps spawn a Wildwood Wisp") and From the Mists ("Rituals in your Maps contain 2 additional packs of Wildwood Monsters"). What 0.5.5 adds is the full, enterable Wildwood area via the Sacred Bloom. The Sacred Bloom item itself has no wiki page yet, so its name and behaviour here are confirmed only from the video and its frames.

## Wisps: Primal, Vivid, Wild — and Sacred

![Wisps released from the Wildwood spreading across a Path of Exile 2 map and possessing monsters](/media/guides/markdown/407ec674-fbba-479b-85cb-94862de6659d.jpg)

Inside the Wildwood you have limited time. Follow the wisp trails and collect as many as you can. When you leave, the wisps are freed into the map and possess monsters.

| Wisp | What it does when freed |
| --- | --- |
| Primal | Can turn normal monsters into magic monsters |
| Vivid | Can add additional modifiers to rare monsters |
| Wild | Adds item rarity to drops from all monsters |
| Sacred | Rare find; the video pointedly does not explain it |

You can gather all three common types in one run to stack the effects. Ritual tablets increase the number of wisps found inside the Wildwood.

Budget your time inside the Wildwood grind
The timer is the real constraint — chase trails, not individual wisps.
24:29 ↗️

Bring a build that can handle empowered monsters setup
Wisps make affected monsters drop better loot and hit considerably harder. Both, together.
25:16 ↗️

On Sacred Wisps the video says only "I wonder what they do" and moves on. That is a deliberate tease, not an oversight — nothing about their effect is confirmed anywhere yet.

## The eight Forbidden Rites challenges

![The Path of Exile 2 challenge panel listing the eight Forbidden Rites event challenges with their objective counts](/media/guides/markdown/1b620ff9-f44d-4835-99e3-cb5135b29782.jpg)

The narration says there are eight challenges and gives three loose examples. The challenge panel on screen gives all eight by name, with their objective counts — which is considerably more useful:

| Challenge | Objectives |
| --- | --- |
| The Riteseeker | 0 / 11 |
| The Hunter | 0 / 15 |
| The Ascendant | 0 / 4 |
| The Master | no counter shown |
| The Reliquarian | 0 / 50 |
| The Nameless | 0 / 18 |
| The Cartographer | 0 / 3 |
| The Vanquisher | 0 / 3 |

The panel also spells out the reward structure in a line the voiceover skips: **"You will earn Forbidden Rites microtransactions as you complete challenges."**

These names and counts are read from a single pre-release frame and are not yet on the Path of Exile 2 Wiki. GGG routinely tunes challenge thresholds before an event goes live, so verify against the in-game panel on launch day. The Master's objective count was not visible in any frame captured.

## Challenge rewards: four cosmetics and a hideout statue

![The Forbidden Rites hideout statue reward in Path of Exile 2](/media/guides/markdown/f19b27fe-6300-4dab-bb2d-735754c503fd.jpg)

Completing the challenges earns four exclusive cosmetic rewards plus a hideout statue to commemorate the run:

The narration says "the Uxmal, the Beastlord". Read as a proper noun this is most likely Uxmal, the Beastlord. The Path of Exile 2 Wiki has no page for this boss at the time of writing, so the exact spelling is unconfirmed.

## Trial of Chaos: 30 rooms and a reliable Trialmaster path

![The Treasure Room of Chaos in Path of Exile 2 offering a choice to take rewards or continue the trial](/media/guides/markdown/8a33e5d8-ce10-482f-9853-067f2e7145ed.jpg)

The endgame Trial no longer stops at ten rooms. You can push to **room 30**, with difficulty and rewards escalating as you go — and the screen above is the decision point: take your rewards and end the trial, or continue for more.

Two consequences matter more than the room count:

Wiki statusThe Path of Exile 2 Wiki's Trial of Chaos material predates 0.5.5 — it still describes the trial via Inscribed Ultimatums and the three Fates required to reach the Trialmaster. None of the rework above is documented there yet, so everything in this section is sourced from the video and its frames.

## Faster fortress completion

Progressing the fortress the first time is, in Jonathan's words, "a massive undertaking". With a fresh economy that is a bad first impression, so 0.5.5 adds a shortcut: after finishing the main questline you can leave the fortress and find **another Arbiter of Divinity Key**. Defeat that harder version of the boss and **all remaining fortress sections complete automatically**.

## Abyssal Ravines on the Atlas

![An Abyssal Ravine winding across the Path of Exile 2 Atlas](/media/guides/markdown/b2ab4dae-efeb-4838-b3f1-c415ecc8a885.jpg)

A new Atlas feature, added because GGG wanted more to find while exploring the infinite Atlas. Abyssal Ravines appear as chains of maps, each containing Abysses. As you complete them along the ravine, **each subsequent map becomes more rewarding** as you push the Abyssal Legion back. The final map on a ravine has a **guaranteed Abyssal Boss encounter**.

## What is not in the event, and what moves to core

Two things are easy to misread here, so they are worth separating.

## What this guide doesn't answer

Some things players are searching for around 0.5.5 are simply not in this video, and it is better to say so than to guess.

**Balance changes.** There are none in 0.5.5. GGG had planned a much larger balance pass, ran out of time against 1.0, and moved all of it to the 1.0 release rather than ship something substandard. If you are waiting on skill or ascendancy numbers, 0.5.5 is not that patch.

**Full 0.5.5 patch notes.** This was a preview stream, not a patch-notes reading. Item-level numbers, tablet mod values and Trial modifier tiers will only be confirmed when GGG posts the notes to the Early Access Patch Notes forum.

**Best PoE2 league-start build for the event.** Not covered here at all. With no balance changes landing in 0.5.5, current Runes of Aldur build knowledge should broadly carry over — but that is inference, not something the video states.

**The new Duelist class.** The first nineteen minutes of the source video are a Duelist deep dive. The Duelist arrives with the 1.0 release on **December 11**, not with this event, so it is out of scope for a Forbidden Rites guide.

## How this guide was fact-checked

**Wiki-verified** against the Path of Exile 2 Wiki's Ritual page: the core Ritual loop and tribute mechanic; the 25%-per-revival tribute penalty; the Favours reroll and defer mechanics; the exact name and wording of Omen of Dextral Exaltation and its tribute price band; the King in the Mists as the Ritual pinnacle boss; and the pre-existing Wildwood Wisp Atlas passives.

**Frame-verified** from native 1920×1080 captures of the source video: the eight-item 0.5.5 feature card; the 1,600 and 4,251 tribute counters; the 1,150-tribute Omen price; the "Offer Tribute to the King" button; the locked reroll icon; and all eight challenge names with their objective counts.

**Unconfirmed at time of writing:** the exact event start date; the Sacred Bloom; Sacred Wisps; Wager Modifiers; the 30-room Trial structure; Abyssal Ravines; and the campaign Ritual reward pool. None of these have Path of Exile 2 Wiki pages yet, and affiliate aggregator sites were deliberately not used as substitutes. The Master challenge objective count was not legible in any captured frame. This guide should be re-checked once wiki pages and official patch notes exist.

## FAQ

### When does the PoE2 Forbidden Rites event start?

At 34:50 he says it "starts at the end of next week". At the time of writing no exact date is posted on pathofexile.com and the Path of Exile 2 Wiki has no page for the event, so treat the precise day as unconfirmed and watch the official Early Access Patch Notes forum.

### Is Forbidden Rites a full league or just an event?

It is an event, not a full league. GGG describe it as "not a full league in the traditional sense" — a shorter run with a fresh economy. Crucially, the existing Runes of Aldur league keeps running at the same time, so you can stay there to finish your endgame and challenges instead of switching.

### Do campaign Rituals in Forbidden Rites drop Unique items?

Not in normal areas. Campaign Rituals deliberately swap Unique rewards for levelling-focused loot: crafting currency and equipment. Unique rewards only appear at the boss-cluster Rituals, which occur twice per act and once per interlude part, where the area boss sits on the effigy and earlier cluster bosses are carried forward into the fight.

### What is the Sacred Bloom and how does the Wildwood work in PoE2?

The Sacred Bloom is a new endgame item bought with Ritual tribute. Using it applies a Wildwood entrance to any endgame map on your Atlas. Inside the Wildwood you have limited time to collect wisps — Primal can upgrade normal monsters to magic, Vivid adds modifiers to rares, and Wild adds item rarity to all monsters. Freed wisps make monsters both richer and considerably harder. The Sacred Bloom has no Path of Exile 2 Wiki page yet, so these details are frame-verified only.

### Does patch 0.5.5 include balance changes?

No. GGG had planned a much larger balance pass but could not finish it alongside 1.0 work, so all of it moves to the 1.0 release on December 11 rather than shipping in a rough state. If you are waiting on skill or ascendancy numbers, 0.5.5 is not that patch — it is content and quality-of-life only.
