Crafted gear is the strongest equipment in AION 2, and unlike drops you never throw it away: you keep upgrading the same item. This page shows you which profession to level, how to read your success chance, how to reach professional 40 cheaply, and how combos and Transfer Crafting take a weapon to the top of its chain.

## Quick answer

| What | Answer |
| --- | --- |
| Professions | Five: blacksmithing, armorsmithing, handicrafting, alchemy, cooking |
| Combo chance | 25% per craft to upgrade to the next tier |
| Rank-up quest | Appears at novice level 50 |
| Target rank | Professional level 40 |
| Min success | 94 to 95% before a combo craft |
| Market sort | Sale price per item, lowest first |
| Weapon budget | At least 50 million kinah |
| Upgrade chain | Star Dragon Lord to Splendid Star Dragon Lord, guaranteed success |

## Pick the profession that makes your weapon

Press Escape, then choose Crafting 0:30 ↗ to open the crafting menu. There are five professions, and you do not need all of them. Most players craft only their weapon; some go on to accessories, a secondary weapon or a full set of armor.

The weapon decides the profession. A **Gladiator** wielding a greatsword needs **Blacksmithing**; a **Ranger** needs **Handicrafting** for the bow 1:28 ↗. Check before you invest — levelling Blacksmithing on the assumption that every weapon comes from it wastes days.

| Profession | What it covers | Basic material to level on |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Blacksmithing** | Greatswords, long swords, daggers | Orichalcum ingots |
| **Handicrafting** | Bows | The profession's own basic material |
| **Armorsmithing** | Armor pieces such as breastplates | Leather |
| **Alchemy** | Not needed for a weapon | — |
| **Cooking** | Not needed for a weapon | — |

Every profession levels and crafts the same way, so once you have taken one to professional rank you already know how to do the rest.

## Craft in a safe spot

You can open the crafting window and craft from anywhere, which is exactly the trap. If an enemy hits you while a craft is in progress, the craft fails and **all of its materials are consumed**. On a large queue or an expensive weapon step, that is the whole investment gone.

Stand next to a crafting table in a town 1:58 ↗ before you start anything that matters, or at least somewhere no hostile mob can reach you.

Careful

Overnight queues are the riskiest crafts of all, because you are not there to notice an aggressive mob wandering in. Run them in town.

## Read your success chance and profession rank

Every item has a **Required Proficiency Level**, and your chance of success depends on how far your own proficiency sits above it. To see the exact figure, click the percent icon next to the item's name and open the **Expected Probability** tab 2:27 ↗. You do not need to work the formula out yourself — the tab does it.

![Crafting Chance window on the Expected Probability tab for a Blacksmithing item. Required Proficiency Level is Novice Lv. 20 (20) and current level is Professional Lv. 43 (93). The table lists Proficiency Level Difference rows 69 to 76, each at 94.633946%.](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/01-expected-probability.jpg "The Expected Probability tab lists the success chance for every level difference, so you can see how much your rank adds before you craft.")

There are two ranks. **Novice** has a gray icon; **Professional** has a double green icon. At novice rank, recipes stay locked until you reach their level: an item that requires novice 3 cannot be crafted at novice 1, even with every material in your bag 3:27 ↗.

Each level you hold above the requirement adds a bonus 3:57 ↗:

| Your level | Item requires | Success chance |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Novice 1 | Novice 1 | 95.2% |
| Novice 10 | Novice 1 | 96.99% |
| Professional 43 (counted as 93) | 63 levels below yours | 96.83% |

Even the last row still leaves a 3.17% chance to fail. A low proficiency against a demanding item can drop you to around 80%, which is not a gamble worth taking with expensive materials.

## Level your profession to professional 40

Level on the profession's cheapest basic material — the stuff your real recipes consume anyway, such as **Leather** for armorsmithing or **Orichalcum Ingots** for blacksmithing. These crafts almost never fail, so a long queue turns into proficiency with very little risk. It is slow: buying enough materials for a 999-item queue and leaving it running overnight is a normal way to do it.

Safety margin

Some players start combo crafts at 90% or 92%. On a step where a failure costs a weapon's worth of materials, waiting for 94 to 95% — or higher — is the cheaper choice over a whole upgrade chain.

## Combo your way up the weapon tiers

Every craft has a 25% **Combo Activation Chance** 5:52 ↗. When it triggers, the item you are making turns into its next-tier version — a gray breastplate comes out green. You get the upgraded item instead of the original, not both.

![Craft screen for the Orichalcum Breastplate with a COMBO badge showing the upgraded breastplate and the line 'Combo Activation Chance 25%'.](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/02-combo-chance.jpg "Each craft of this breastplate has a 25% chance to combo into the next tier.")

Combos are not a bonus at the top end; they are the only route. Some high-tier recipes cannot be crafted directly at all — the base recipe for a top weapon exists only as a combo result from the tier below 6:48 ↗. Each of those steps has to pass two rolls: the 25% combo and the success chance itself.

The path to the **Star Dragon Lord Greatsword** 8:44 ↗:

Craft the Orichalcum Greatsword (gray) until a combo gives the green recipe
    25% per craft

Craft the green weapon until a combo gives the blue
    25% per craft

Use the blue weapon as the recipe for the next craft, and combo it into the yellow base weapon
    cannot be crafted directly

Craft the Star Dragon Lord Greatsword from the yellow base weapon
the start of the upgrade chain below

Costs more than it looks

The chain works like a pyramid. Expect to need about 50 items of the lowest tier to produce about 10 of the next, and about 10 of those for one of the top. Budget materials for the bottom layer, not the last craft.

All of this crafting also feeds your proficiency, so the profession keeps climbing as you work up the tiers.

## Gather materials without overspending

**Market.** Click the market icon on any material to jump to its listings, then sort by **Sale Price Per Item** with the lowest first 9:41 ↗. Sorting by total price hides the cheap stacks. Buying slightly more than you need is fine; matching the exact count every time costs more than the spare materials do.

![Market Exchange main tab searching Refining Stone, with the Sale Price Per Item column sorted lowest first: listings run from 1553 up to 1700 and 1766 per stone.](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/03-market-sort.jpg "Sorting by sale price per item, lowest first, puts the cheapest stacks at the top so you do not overpay for crafting materials.")

**Your other characters.** Characters on the same account can pass crafting materials to each other through **Server Storage** 10:09 ↗: open your storage, switch to the server tab, and move what you need.

**Season Shop.** It sells crafting materials. Spending season currency here competes with the wings, so treat it as the option for when you are short rather than the default.

**Dungeons.** **Shugo** runs and regular **Expeditions** drop crafting materials at a small chance. It adds up over time but will not fund a weapon on its own.

Budget check

Buying everything for a crafted weapon from the market costs at least 50 million kinah 10:38 ↗. With less than that, expect the process to be slow and painful, and lean on alts and dungeon drops.

## Upgrade crafted gear and decide what to craft

Regular gear carries four **Soul Binding** stats. Crafted gear carries an additional line on top of those, and that line can be rerolled 11:37 ↗. The second advantage is **Transfer Crafting**, at the top left of the crafting window: it upgrades the item you already own into the next one in its chain, with guaranteed success. You only need the materials, which are hard to come by.

![Transfer Crafting screen on the Blacksmithing Greatsword tab, listing Splendid Star Dragon Lord, Dark Dragon Lord, Splendid Dark Dragon Lord, Ebony Dragon Lord and Splendid Ebony Dragon Lord greatswords, with a +10 Aulamus Greatsword compared side by side with the Splendid Star Dragon Lord Greatsword and its required crafting materials on the right.](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/04-transfer-crafting.jpg "Transfer Crafting lets you upgrade a weapon in place along the Dragon Lord chain, and shows the materials each step needs.")

The greatsword chain 12:05 ↗:

| Weapon | How you get it |
| --- | --- |
| Star Dragon Lord | Crafted through the combo path above |
| Splendid Star Dragon Lord | Transfer Crafting, guaranteed |
| Dark Dragon Lord Greatsword | Transfer Crafting, guaranteed |
| Splendid Dark Dragon Lord | Transfer Crafting, guaranteed |
| Ebony Dragon Lord | Transfer Crafting, guaranteed |
| Splendid Ebony Dragon Lord | Transfer Crafting, guaranteed — the best weapon currently |

Some transfer crafts can also combo straight into the following stage 12:34 ↗, skipping a step and the materials it would have cost.

Which slots repay the effort:

| Slot | Worth crafting? | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Weapon | Yes, for most players | The damage it adds, and the extra line can roll very strong stats |
| Accessories (earrings, rings) | Yes | Their normal soul-binding stats are weak, and you reroll them often chasing +1 skills 13:04 ↗ |
| Armor (pants, tops) | Usually not | Their normal rolls are decent, so the extra line buys little |

Crafting the full set is for heavy spenders and min-maxers. For everyone else, the weapon first and accessories second is the plan 13:32 ↗.

## FAQ

### Which crafting profession do I need for my weapon in AION 2?

It depends on the weapon type. Blacksmithing makes great swords, long swords and daggers, while handicrafting makes bows. Check which profession produces your weapon before levelling anything, because all five professions level up the same way.

### What happens if I get hit while crafting in AION 2?

Taking a hit in the middle of a craft consumes all of the materials and fails the craft. Craft next to a table in a town or in another safe spot, especially before a large or expensive craft.

### How much does it cost to craft a top weapon in AION 2?

Buying the materials from the market means budgeting at least about 50 million kinah. The upgrade path works like a pyramid, needing roughly 50 base items to produce 10 of the next tier and one of the tier above that.

### How do I get crafting materials without spending a lot of kinah?

Transfer materials between your characters through server storage, buy from the season shop, and collect drops from Shugo and regular expeditions. When buying from the market, sort by sale price per item with the lowest first.
