## Core Idea
TotalXclipse's "The Ultimate Guide To Fluid Pipes in Satisfactory 1.2" breaks down the mechanics that make Satisfactory's fluid system feel confusing at first glance. The video walks through how pipes actually behave, from basic flow and gravity to advanced junction and manifold designs, with the goal of helping players build fluid networks that behave predictably instead of fighting the game's physics.

## 1. Intro
![](/media/guides/markdown/1bcf96e1-ca98-4140-b992-cbe5d6b39c4c.png)
The video opens by framing fluids as one of the most misunderstood systems in Satisfactory, setting up a full walkthrough of the mechanics that follow.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Watch the full video before redesigning an existing fluid setup, since later chapters build on earlier concepts
- [ ] Keep in mind this covers Satisfactory 1.2 mechanics specifically

## 2. Pipe Basics
![](/media/guides/markdown/f355e7d3-1677-4695-8bcc-90eeb048f811.png)
This chapter covers the fundamentals of how fluid pipes connect, fill, and move fluid between machines.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Learn how pipes connect to machines and to each other
- [ ] Understand basic flow direction before building longer runs

## 3. Pipe Sloshing
![](/media/guides/markdown/a42ca29e-9412-49f6-95bc-2761808d915c.png)
The video explains sloshing, the back-and-forth fluid movement inside partially filled pipes that can cause inconsistent readings and flow.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Expect some sloshing in horizontal pipe runs, especially at partial fill
- [ ] Don't assume a fluctuating flow reading means the setup is broken

## 4. Gravity In Pipes
![](/media/guides/markdown/dfecc453-c612-427e-a6d8-a3c72cb189b9.png)
This section covers how gravity affects fluid movement, including how vertical drops can be used to move fluid without a pump.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Use vertical drops to move fluid downhill without needing a pump
- [ ] Account for gravity when routing pipes across changes in elevation

## 5. Headlift
![](/media/guides/markdown/7fb18738-10c9-42a2-b3c1-e164990574df.png)
Headlift is explained as the pressure budget pumps provide to push fluid uphill or over long distances.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Calculate the total headlift needed for a pipe run's elevation and length
- [ ] Add pumps when a run exceeds a single pump's headlift budget

## 6. Dynamic Pressure
![](/media/guides/markdown/d9d2befb-61cc-452b-a5b7-3cb02e2cb08f.png)
This chapter covers dynamic pressure and how it interacts with headlift to determine actual flow rates.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Don't rely on static pressure numbers alone when sizing a pipe network
- [ ] Test actual flow rates once a pipe run is under load

## 7. Splitting Fluids
![](/media/guides/markdown/842b14fb-b904-494a-aa83-da5a3e9c4678.png)
The video demonstrates how to split fluid flow between multiple outputs using pipe junctions.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Use a pipe junction to divide flow between multiple destinations
- [ ] Balance downstream demand so one branch doesn't starve another

## 8. Valves In Satisfactory
![](/media/guides/markdown/da86a321-0041-4fab-bc87-dd8a6b965244.png)
This section explains how valves can be used to limit or control flow rate through a pipe.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Add a valve wherever a pipe needs a capped or controlled flow rate
- [ ] Use valves to help balance manifolds instead of letting flow default unevenly

## 9. Buffers In Satisfactory
![](/media/guides/markdown/7b578810-59c1-44d5-b906-5a96d5ecbea8.png)
Fluid buffers are covered as a way to store excess fluid and smooth out fluctuations in supply.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Add a buffer where supply is inconsistent or bursty
- [ ] Size buffers based on how much fluctuation the line needs to absorb

## 10. Advanced Piping
![](/media/guides/markdown/781b9133-194b-4388-8911-149adc6599a4.png)
This short section transitions into more advanced piping concepts covered in the rest of the video.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Make sure the basics from earlier chapters are solid before applying the advanced techniques below

## 11. Pipe Priority
![](/media/guides/markdown/be6d003a-202a-4381-9929-b4459d91617c.png)
The video explains how to set up priority so certain destinations receive fluid before others.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Identify which machines must always be fed first
- [ ] Structure the pipe network so priority destinations sit closer to the source

## 12. VIP Junctions
![](/media/guides/markdown/a0ca8935-5816-4d99-9e60-dd0b7ea4bd6f.png)

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Use a VIP junction design when one output must never be starved
- [ ] Test the setup under full load to confirm the priority output stays fed

## 13. Overflow Junctions
![](/media/guides/markdown/d2b770db-4e82-405e-947c-7dd408dfd15e.png)

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Route overflow to storage or a secondary use instead of letting it back up
- [ ] Confirm the overflow path can handle peak excess volume

## 14. Pipeline Manifolds

## 17. Fluid Bugs
![](/media/guides/markdown/ec714298-023c-4fd6-8bd4-a0a11486b056.png)
The guide closes by covering known fluid bugs and quirks players may run into, along with ways to work around them.

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Recognize the common fluid bugs described in the video rather than assuming your build is wrong
- [ ] Apply the suggested workarounds before redesigning a working setup

## FAQ

### How much head lift do pumps and machines give in Satisfactory?

Producers and extractors supply 10 m of head lift at their output, with roughly 10 percent of leeway on top. A Mk1 pipeline pump sets head lift to 20 m at that point and a Mk2 sets it to 50 m. Head lift is cancelled and replaced whenever a pipe feeds into a buildable such as a refinery. An unpowered pump resets head lift to 0 m while still letting fluid flow through it.

### How does fluid split between Mk1 and Mk2 pipes at a junction?

By capacity, not evenly. Score Mk2 pipes 2 points and Mk1 pipes 1 point, total the outputs, and divide the incoming flow. A full 600 splitting into two Mk2s and one Mk1 is five points, so 120 per point: 240, 240 and 120. Two Mk1s plus one Mk2 is four points at 150 each, giving 150, 150 and 300. Two Mk1s alone split 600 evenly at 300 apiece.

### Why is my valve not limiting flow the way I set it?

A valve only enforces its limit when the pipe in front of it is full, and fluid otherwise takes the path of least resistance. On a full Mk1 pipe split two ways with a single valve set to 150, you get about 200 down the open pipe and 100 through the valve. Fix it by valving both branches at 150, or by putting a pump on the valve's input to keep it fed.

### Do water towers actually work for head lift in Satisfactory?

They work, with real caveats. Put a buffer up high, feed it with one set of pumps, and let gravity supply the network; add a valve set to zero before it joins other pipes so the tower cannot drain and strip head lift everywhere. The creator considers the whole trick a bug and does not use it, and McGallion warns it can fail badly across many connected networks, at maximum flow, or on dedicated servers.

### Why is my pipe manifold sloshing and the machines not turning on?

Feed manifolds from above rather than below. The downpipe is prioritised so machines prime in sequence, while bottom feeding forces every segment to fill first and makes sloshing worse. Use Mk1 pipes into the manifold, since Mk2 sloshes badly; if you need more than 300, split a Mk2 into two Mk1s with a powered pump on each and loop the second to the far end. Prime fast by dropping machines to 1 percent clock, then back to 100.
