## 🎯 The core idea

> Lady Geist trades her own health for damage, then takes it back. Max Essence Bomb first to farm Haunts fast, stack Malice on your target before you commit, and save Soul Exchange for the moment you are low and they are high. Build health, stamina and resistances early so poke can't shut you down, and the swap does the rest. Numbers here are checked against the wiki as of October 2026.

## Who Lady Geist is after City Never Sleeps

![Lady Geist late game with 5,661 health on the brawler tank build in Deadlock](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_3590.webp)

Lady Geist is a brawler who spends her own life to cast. Essence Bomb and Malice both cost health, Life Drain pulls it back from enemies, and her ultimate, Soul Exchange, swaps health levels with an enemy hero. That makes her strongest at a point most heroes avoid: half health, close to the enemy, with the ultimate ready. Learning how to play Lady Geist in Deadlock mostly means getting comfortable there, and the Lady Geist abilities below are all built around it.

Her base numbers on the wiki are 880 health (+51 per boon), 1 health regen, 6.3 m/s move speed and 3 stamina. None of her abilities changed in the City Never Sleeps update on September 29, 2026, and nothing about her has changed in the October patches so far. The last Lady Geist changes were on September 16 (Life Drain T3 spirit scaling up from +0.3 to +0.45, Essence Bomb T3 toxic mess up from 26% to 30%).

This Deadlock Lady Geist guide is built on SwoleBenji's "Mega Brawler" video from March 12, 2026. That video predates the June 30 ultimate cooldown change, the July 28 Life Drain and Malice rework and the September map rework, so it is used here for how the kit plays. The item build below is his, checked item by item against the current wiki, with every change since then named. No newer Lady Geist guide video from after the map rework existed when this was written; the closest are pro POV matches with no explanation.

## Johann's Gift: the gun you will lean on

![Lady Geist firing Johann's Gift at a target dummy in the Deadlock sandbox](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0365_w4rIfq4.webp)

Lady Geist's weapon, Johann's Gift, is a heavy-hitting medium-range pistol: 20.7 damage per bullet (+1 per boon), 9 ammo, 2.12 bullets per second and about 44 damage per second at base. Damage falloff starts at 17 m and ends at 48 m, which the wiki lowered from 20 to 52 m back in March. The video calls the range short for a pistol but the bullet speed very high (the wiki lists 828 m/s), and that matches how it plays: you can still hit last hits and denies from a distance, but your real damage happens up close.

free Shoot enemies in the head whenever lane is quiet and you have ammo. It costs no health, unlike your abilities, and it is the reason this build takes weapon items at all.

## Geist Essence Bomb: your farm and poke button

![Lady Geist Essence Bomb toxic mess puddle damaging dummies in Deadlock](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0405.webp)

Geist Essence Bomb throws a bomb that arms after 0.65 seconds and then explodes in a 7 m radius for 90 damage (spirit scaling 1.22). It costs 30% of the damage it deals as your own health, which is spirit damage, can be reduced by spirit resist and can't kill you. Base cooldown is 14 seconds. The bomb starts arming when it hits terrain or an enemy, and keeps travelling after it hits a unit until it reaches terrain.

| Upgrade | Cost | Effect (wiki, Oct 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| T1 | 1 point | -5s cooldown |
| T2 | 2 points | +2 m radius and +50 damage |
| T3 | 5 points | Leaves a toxic mess that deals 30% of the bomb's damage per second for 6s |

The T3 puddle is why the video maxes this ability first. Throw a bomb into a Haunt camp and let the puddle finish it while you move on. Early on, medium camps need a few bullets on top to die in time, and any Haunt that burrows still has to be waited out. In lane, the video's rule is to throw a bomb only when you are at full health and about to take a trade or kill the healing trooper, so the self-damage isn't wasted.

## Life Drain: the tether that keeps you alive

![Lady Geist casting Life Drain on a target in the Deadlock sandbox](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0470_3FbfBP1.webp)

Life Drain attaches a tether to an enemy within 18 m that deals 24 damage per second for 2.5 seconds and heals you for 100% of the damage dealt. You can shoot and cast other abilities while it drains, but you are slowed while it is damaging a target. The tether breaks at 28 m. Its base cooldown is 34 seconds. Alternate cast gives health to an ally instead, at the cost of your own.

| Upgrade | Cost | Effect (wiki, Oct 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| T1 | 1 point | +13 damage per second |
| T2 | 2 points | +2.5s duration |
| T3 | 5 points | 2 extra charges and higher spirit scaling |

Two changes since the video matter here. On July 28, 2026, Life Drain went from 75% to 100% damage-to-heal, with its damage cut so the total heal stayed the same. On September 16, the T3 spirit scaling bonus rose from +0.3 to +0.45. The video calls Life Drain a button you press whenever it is off cooldown and maxes it last; for this gun-and-tank build that still holds, but on a lady geist spirit build the T3 charges are now worth more than they were in March.

The wiki notes the tether stays attached through cover and beyond max range once it is on, which also tells you where a fleeing target went.

## Malice: stack it before you commit

![Lady Geist throwing Malice blood shards at a dummy in Deadlock](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0535.webp)

Malice fires 3 blood shards for 23 damage each, costing 9% of your current health. Every hit adds a stack, up to 5. Each stack slows the target by 12% (fading over 4 seconds) and makes them take 7% more damage from you for 9 seconds. Base cooldown is 6 seconds.

| Upgrade | Cost | Effect (wiki, Oct 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| T1 | 1 point | -3s cooldown |
| T2 | 2 points | +25.2 damage and +4 blood shards |
| T3 | 5 points | +8% damage amp per stack |

Correction: the build tooltip shown in the video lists +8% damage amp per stack. The wiki puts base amp at 7%, not the 8% on screen, since the July 28 patch, and the T3 bonus went from +7% to +8% at the same time. The video also says the cooldown is about 3 seconds with no items; the wiki base is 6 seconds, and 3 seconds is what you get after the T1 upgrade.

setup This is the video's main teamfight idea: stay back, keep throwing Malice at the hero you want dead until they have five stacks, then go in. The amp applies to your gun and every other ability, so Essence Bomb, Life Drain and Vampiric Burst all hit harder on a stacked target. Malice can also secure soul orbs.

skip Don't throw Malice at troopers or Haunts early. At 9% of your health per cast, it is only worth it on heroes.

## Geist Soul Exchange: how the swap really works

![Lady Geist casting Soul Exchange on an enemy in the Deadlock sandbox](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0690_tlJ8piY.webp)

Geist Soul Exchange swaps health levels with an enemy hero within 5.5 m. Cooldown is 220 seconds. The wiki explains the rule exactly: the target first loses 30% of their current health. If that leaves them higher than you in health percentage, you swap percentages. If not, they still lose that 30% and you get the same amount of max health back. An enemy can never be pushed below 30% of their max health by the swap, and if they are already under 30% they lose nothing but you still get the heal.

| Upgrade | Cost | Effect (wiki, Oct 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| T1 | 1 point | -50s cooldown |
| T2 | 2 points | Silences enemies within 25 m for 3s |
| T3 | 5 points | On cast: +60 spirit power, +40% fire rate and +50% spirit resist for 8s |

Two corrections to the video. The cooldown is 220 seconds after the June 30, 2026 global ultimate change (it was 190 when the video was made), and T1 now takes off 50 seconds, not 60. The video also lists the fire rate before the silence; on the wiki the silence is T2 and the fire rate buff is T3.

The swap is pure damage, so it ignores damage resist, but the health you gain counts as healing. A well-timed Counterspell can stop it during its 0.1 second cast. Use it the way the video does: let the enemy spend their burst on you, wait until you are around a third of your health, step in with a dash or jump and swap. You come out high, they come out low and slowed by Malice, and your gun finishes the job.

## Lady Geist skill order

![Lady Geist build editor showing the Malice tooltip and ability point order](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0300_Bp6zIOu.webp)

The video's lady geist skill order puts the first point in Essence Bomb, then unlocks Malice, Life Drain and Soul Exchange. After that, every upgrade point goes into Essence Bomb until it is maxed, then Malice, then Soul Exchange, and Life Drain last.

| Priority | Ability | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Essence Bomb | T3 puddle clears Haunt camps by itself |
| 2 | Malice | Teamfight amp and a cheaper, faster cast |
| 3 | Soul Exchange | -50s cooldown, then the 25 m silence |
| 4 | Life Drain | Strong late, but you press it either way |

These Lady Geist ability upgrades cost 1, 2 and 5 points for T1, T2 and T3. Since September 29, you refund a point by right-clicking the ability icon. If you play more spirit, it is reasonable to pull Life Drain T3 earlier for the two extra charges; the video doesn't test that, so treat it as an option, not a rule.

## Best Lady Geist build in Deadlock: items by phase

![SwoleBenji Lady Geist Fast Farm brawler item build in the Deadlock build browser](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0230_JBs7n5m.webp)

This is the video's "Fast Farm All Rounder Brawler" build (build code 484828 in the in-game browser), a mix of tank, gun and enough spirit for the bombs. Every item still exists in the shop as of October 2026; costs are from the wiki.

| Phase | Lady Geist items | Notes from the wiki |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Early lane | Extended Magazine (800), Extra Health (800), Extra Stamina (800), Sprint Boots (800), Close Quarters (800), Extra Spirit (800), Mystic Vulnerability (1,600) | Health and stamina early so harass can't shut you down |
| First big item | Escalating Exposure (6,400) | +17% spirit resist plus stacking spirit amp on targets |
| Roam, jungle, gank | Enduring Speed (1,600), Fortitude (3,200), Stamina Mastery (3,200), Point Blank (3,200), Titanic Magazine (1,600), Rapid Rounds (800) into Burst Fire (3,200), Surge of Power (3,200), Spirit Resilience (3,200), Bullet Resilience (3,200) | Fortitude regen raised to 2.25% max health per second on Sep 16 |
| Late game | Bullet Lifesteal (1,600) into Vampiric Burst (6,400), Cheat Death (6,400) | See the Cheat Death warning below |
| Sell-and-replace | Frenzy, Lucky Shot, Siphon Bullets, Spiritual Overflow, Colossus, Plated Armor, Juggernaut (6,400 each) | Sell Surge of Power, Titanic Magazine, Point Blank, Burst Fire, Fortitude and Stamina Mastery, in that order |

Two item changes since March are worth knowing. Spiritual Overflow was cut on September 16 (35% slower buildup, 30 spirit power instead of 40, 25% fire rate instead of 30%), so it is a weaker buy than when the video was filmed. Frenzy gained 10% bullet lifesteal on July 28, which suits this sustain build better than before.

The video binds Surge of Power to Malice, because Malice is an instant cast you use constantly, so you keep the move speed and full speed while shooting.

## Escalating Exposure and the Cheat Death trap

![Escalating Exposure item tooltip in the Lady Geist build in Deadlock](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0150_SuJbF6g.webp)

Correction: the video describes Escalating Exposure as stacking negative spirit resist. On the wiki it shreds 8% spirit resist when you deal spirit damage, and the stacking part is a spirit amp: +4.5% per stack, up to 12 stacks, for 12 seconds. The effect on farming is the same idea. Haunts have 45% to 55% spirit resist on the wiki, so Mystic Vulnerability and Escalating Exposure make your bombs kill camps much faster.

skip The bigger correction is Cheat Death. The video's plan is to swap health while Cheat Death keeps you alive. The wiki lists Soul Exchange among the heals that Cheat Death reduces: while death-immune you deal 60% less damage and receive 60% less healing for 4.5 seconds. The enemy still loses health, but you get far less back. Swap before Cheat Death triggers, not during it, whenever you can.

## Farming Haunts on the new map

![Lady Geist farming a jungle camp with Essence Bomb in Deadlock](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1590.webp)

grind Essence Bomb makes Lady Geist one of the faster junglers, and the video spends most of its match farming. Since the September 29 rework, jungle camps are called Haunts. The wiki lists small camps spawning at 2:00, medium at 5:00 and large at 8:00, all scaling up in health over the game. With T3 bomb, throw one into the camp, add a few shots, and leave once the puddle is doing the work.

The video's habit that still applies: farm at high health, and take your next upgrade point before a jungle run so you clear faster. Note the gameplay in the video is on the old map, so lane and camp positions you see there don't match today's city layout.

## Lady Geist laning

![Lady Geist in lane against Drifter and Rem early in a Deadlock match](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0885.webp)

Lady Geist laning is about protecting your health bar. The video's lane is against Drifter and Rem, and the approach is defensive: stay behind your troopers, take last hits and denies with your gun, and avoid trading poke you can't win. Every point of health is ammo for your next bomb. Throw Essence Bomb when you are full health and it will hit a hero or the healing trooper, and cut off escape routes with it when an ally goes in.

cheap The early buys exist for this phase. Extra Health and Extra Stamina keep you from being bullied out of lane, Extended Magazine helps you contest souls.

setup Once Soul Exchange is unlocked, being at half health stops being a weakness. If an enemy dives you at that point, let them commit and swap.

## Teamfights and the Geist kiss

![Lady Geist swapping health with Soul Exchange to win a fight in Deadlock](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1418.webp)

In fights, these lady geist tips from the video carry the most weight. Open from range with bombs and Malice until your target has five stacks. Keep Life Drain on them while you shoot. When you are low and close, swap, then pop Vampiric Burst (70% bullet lifesteal, +34% fire rate and +75% ammo for 5 seconds on the wiki) to heal while their health is low and amplified.

Don't swap early for no reason. In the video's match, a swap only made sense when it killed or when he needed health back to keep farming. At 220 seconds, a wasted swap is a lost fight.

## The Lady Geist late game build

![Lady Geist at 5,078 health with a full late game item build in Deadlock](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_3530.webp)

By the end of the video's match the tank items have stacked up: 5.6k health on screen, with around 50% bullet and spirit resist by his count. The late items are Colossus (+25% base health and 35% bullet and spirit resist for 7 seconds on activation), Siphon Bullets (steals 2.5% max health per hit), Plated Armor and Juggernaut. Spirit Resilience and Bullet Resilience both add 15% more resist below 50% health, which fits a hero who sits at half health on purpose.

grind This lady geist late game build pays off slowly. The video holds back from fights to farm toward it. If your team needs you, join them; a finished build doesn't help if the Patron falls.

## Lady Geist counter tips

![Lady Geist in a late teamfight under enemy debuffs in Deadlock](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_3685.webp)

If you are playing into Lady Geist, or want to know what stops you, the wiki gives a clear lady geist counter list:

- **Range.** Soul Exchange needs 5.5 m. The video calls Mina hard to fight because she can stay out of range.
- **Counterspell.** It can stop the 0.1 second Soul Exchange cast.
- **Dispels and debuff resist.** Malice and Life Drain can be dispelled, and debuff resist shortens both.
- **Unstoppable and Indomitable.** Unstoppable suppresses the crowd control on Malice and Soul Exchange (the slows and the T2 silence), and Indomitable prevents Soul Exchange's disable.
- **Healing reduction.** Life Drain, Soul Exchange and Vampiric Burst all heal, so Healbane or other anti-heal cuts into her sustain.

The video also notes that a fed Warden beats an unfed Geist, but when both are fed the Warden has to keep his distance to win.

## How this guide was fact-checked

Ability numbers, upgrade effects, base stats, weapon numbers, item costs and item stats come from deadlock.wiki (the Lady Geist page, its update history, each item page and the patch notes for September 16, September 29, October 5 and October 14, 2026), checked on October 19, 2026. The item build, its order, the skill order, the Surge of Power binding, laning and teamfight play come from SwoleBenji's video and the build screen shown in it.

Corrections made to the video: Soul Exchange cooldown is 220 seconds and T1 is -50 seconds (June 30 change); Life Drain now heals for 100% of its damage with lower damage (July 28); Malice base amp is 7% per stack, not 8% (July 28); Malice base cooldown is 6 seconds, not 3; Soul Exchange's silence is T2 and the fire rate buff is T3; Escalating Exposure stacks a spirit amp rather than more resist shred; and Cheat Death cuts the healing you get from Soul Exchange by 60%. Spiritual Overflow, Frenzy and Fortitude changes since March are noted in the build section. The wiki doesn't rank items for Lady Geist, so the build is the video creator's choice, not an official one.

## What this guide doesn't answer

- **A full lady geist spirit build.** The video mentions a Spirit Burn and Mystic Reverb version but doesn't play it, and Spirit Burn now hits a single target after July 28, so it needs its own testing.
- **Every lane matchup.** Only the Drifter and Rem lane from the video is covered.
- **Exact Haunt and vent positions.** The video is on the old map; see a map guide for the current layout.
- **Soul Urn and Unstable Rift timing.** Both changed on June 30 and affect all heroes, not Lady Geist specifically.
- **Street Brawl.** Essence Bomb has a smaller radius there; this guide covers standard matches only.

## FAQ

### What is the best Lady Geist build in Deadlock right now?

A tank-brawler build that still works in October 2026: early Extra Health, Extra Stamina, Sprint Boots, Extended Magazine, Close Quarters and Mystic Vulnerability, then Escalating Exposure, Fortitude, Stamina Mastery, Point Blank, Burst Fire, Surge of Power and Spirit and Bullet Resilience, then Vampiric Burst and Cheat Death, and finally Colossus, Siphon Bullets, Plated Armor and Juggernaut. Every item is still in the shop after City Never Sleeps.

### What is the Lady Geist skill order?

Unlock Essence Bomb first, then Malice, Life Drain and Soul Exchange. Max Essence Bomb first for the T3 toxic puddle that clears Haunt camps, then Malice, then Soul Exchange for the -50s cooldown and 25 m silence, and Life Drain last. Upgrades cost 1, 2 and 5 points.

### How does Lady Geist's Soul Exchange work?

The target first loses 30% of their current health. If they are still higher than you in health percentage, you swap percentages; if not, you gain the health they lost. The swap can't push an enemy below 30% of their max health. It has a 5.5 m range and a 220 second cooldown since the June 30, 2026 ultimate change.

### Should Lady Geist use Soul Exchange during Cheat Death?

Usually not. While Cheat Death keeps you alive, you receive 60% less healing for 4.5 seconds, and the wiki lists Soul Exchange among the heals it reduces. The enemy still loses health, but you get much less back, so swap before Cheat Death triggers whenever you can.

### How do you counter Lady Geist in Deadlock?

Stay out of her 5.5 m Soul Exchange range and poke her from distance, keep Counterspell for the 0.1 second swap cast, use dispels or debuff resist against Malice and Life Drain, and buy anti-heal such as Healbane, because Life Drain, Soul Exchange and Vampiric Burst all heal her.
