# Deadlock Build Guide: Weapon vs Spirit vs Vitality Builds

> How to build any Deadlock hero across Weapon, Spirit and Vitality items: the current investment bonuses that make 4,800 souls per category the key spike, when a pure gun or spirit build still makes sense, and worked hybrid examples with every outdated item value corrected.

## 🎯 The core idea

> Every Deadlock item is Weapon, Spirit or Vitality, and the shop rewards you for the total souls you spend in each category. The biggest single jump comes at 4,800 souls per category, so in 2026 most strong builds are hybrids: pick the items your hero actually uses, but make sure they also push each category past that line early. Pure one-category builds are the exception, not the rule.

free costs nothing

cheap small cost

setup needs preparation

grind pays off slowly

skip the thing to stop doing

This Deadlock build guide is about build theory: how to build a hero when no one hands you a list. It is based on Metro Deadlock's video made right after the November 21, 2025 economy patch, checked against the current deadlock.wiki numbers (October 2026). Several values in the video have changed since, and each change is named where it comes up.

## Weapon, Spirit and Vitality: what each category gives you

![Deadlock Curiosity Shop spirit items catalog with tier 1 to tier 4 prices and the investment bars](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0135_xtYsFrU.webp)

The Curiosity Shop sorts every item into one of three categories, and the color tells you which: orange Weapon items improve your gun (and, partly, your melee), purple Spirit items improve your abilities and spirit power, and green Vitality items improve health, defenses and movement. The wiki counts 156 items in a standard match, split into four price tiers of 800, 1,600, 3,200 and 6,400 souls, with nine item slots plus three Extra Slots that unlock as your team kills enemy Walkers.

On top of each item's own stats, the game tracks how many souls you have spent per category and pays you an **investment bonus** for it: weapon investment adds weapon damage, spirit investment adds spirit power, and vitality investment adds a percentage of bonus health. Upgrading an item keeps its full value in the total, but selling it removes that investment. The bars at the bottom left of the shop show where you stand in each category.

If you are new to the shop itself (tiers, slots, Popular Items, selling), read the [Deadlock item shop guide](/guides/deadlock-item-shop-guide) first. This page assumes you know where things are and want to know which items to buy and why.

## The 4.8k line: current investment bonuses (2026)

![Deadlock weapon investment tooltip showing the 4.8k weapon damage spike in a Wraith build](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0100.webp)

The investment bonus is small for the first 3,200 souls in a category and then jumps once you reach 4,800. These are the current values from the wiki's Items page:

| Souls in one category | Weapon (weapon damage) | Spirit (spirit power) | Vitality (bonus health) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 800 | +9% | +7 | +9% |
| 1,600 | +12% | +11 | +12% |
| 2,400 | +15% | +15 | +15% |
| 3,200 | +18% | +19 | +20% |
| **4,800** | **+46%** | **+38** | **+38%** |
| 6,400 | +54% | +45 | +42% |
| 8,000 | +62% | +52 | +46% |
| 11,200 | +74% | +59 | +50% |
| 16,000 | +86% | +66 | +54% |
| 22,400 | +100% | +75 | +60% |
| 28,800 | +115% | +100 | +66% |

Going from 3,200 to 4,800 costs one 1,600-soul item and adds +28% weapon damage, +19 spirit power or +18% health on top of that item's own stats. Nothing later in the table is that efficient. That is the whole reason the video says almost every hero wants 4,800 in all three categories early, and the logic still holds.

The numbers in the video do not. The screens show the November 2025 values: +49% weapon damage, +45 spirit power and +34% health at 4,800. The wiki's patch history shows the spirit step was cut to +38 on December 16, 2025, vitality was rescaled several times between December 2025 and April 30, 2026 (it is +38% now), weapon was rescaled to +46% on April 30, 2026, and the May 22, 2026 patch added the 6,400 row to all three tracks. Use the table above, not the video's bars. The shop now also previews how a hovered item changes your investment bars (added June 30, 2026), so you can check this in game before you buy.

## Gun builds: what weapon investment really scales

![Deadlock Headhunter item tooltip in the weapon shop with its flat headshot bonus damage](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1320.webp)

setup A deadlock gun build (a weapon build) stacks weapon damage, fire rate, ammo and bullet resist shred, so your bullets do the killing and your abilities mostly set up shots. It suits heroes with strong base guns and on-hit effects, and it is the most forgiving way to build if you aim well.

Weapon investment matters more than it looks because it multiplies with everything else that gives weapon damage. The video makes a useful point here: once weapon damage is easy to stack, items that add a percentage to every bullet beat items that add a flat amount once. Its example is Headhunter versus Hollow Point, and the current wiki values show why:

| Item | Cost | What it adds |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Headhunter | 3,200 | +75 flat bonus damage on your next headshot (8s cooldown), plus a small heal and move speed |
| Hollow Point | 3,200 | +35% weapon damage while you are above 65% health, and your bullets shred 10% bullet resist |
| Opening Rounds | 1,600 | +8% weapon damage, +7 spirit power, and +25% weapon damage against targets above 50% health |

Headhunter is not bad, but its bonus is the same number whether you have 18% or 86% weapon investment, while Hollow Point and Opening Rounds grow with it. Opening Rounds also gives a little spirit power, which is the kind of overlap that makes hybrid builds cheaper.

One correction: the video says melee damage is directly tied to weapon damage. The wiki says melee benefits from **50%** of your weapon damage bonuses, so weapon investment helps melee heroes, just at half strength.

## Spirit builds: front-load spirit power in lane

![Grey Talon at 6,400 souls with 74 spirit power after an early Improved Spirit and Rapid Recharge buy](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0345_lW1CdpC.webp)

cheap A deadlock spirit build stacks spirit power, cooldown reduction, ability duration and charges, so your abilities do the damage. Spirit power multiplies every ability that scales with it, which is why a spirit hero's first 4,800 souls in purple are the strongest buy of their game.

The video's clearest example is Grey Talon. Instead of spreading early souls around, buy Improved Spirit (1,600, +18 spirit power) and Rapid Recharge (3,200, +2 charges, faster charges and +14 spirit power for charged abilities) and you are at exactly 4,800 in Spirit. With today's numbers that is +38 from investment plus +18 from Improved Spirit, so about 56 spirit power from items, and Charged Shot gets another +14 from Rapid Recharge because the wiki lists it as a charged ability (it gains a second charge on its T1 upgrade). The video shows 74 spirit power on screen at 6,400 souls, but that was with the old +45 spirit step, so expect less today.

The general lesson: on a spirit hero, pick two or three spirit items that help your main damage ability and reach 4,800 in Spirit before you spread out. After that, the extra spirit power per soul drops off fast, which is exactly the point where you should start buying Vitality and a little Weapon.

## Vitality and tank builds: health is a percentage

![Deadlock vitality investment tooltip showing the bonus health percentage at 4.8k souls](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0118.webp)

free Vitality investment adds a percentage of your base health, not a flat number (the December 16, 2025 patch briefly switched it to flat health; the March 21, 2026 patch switched it back). So 4,800 souls in Vitality gives +38% health on any hero, and it is worth more on heroes with high base health.

A deadlock vitality build, or tank build, mostly means stacking health, regen, bullet and spirit resist and lifesteal, and then picking a few active items that win fights. The video's point is that a pure tank build is rare now: even tanks want 4,800 in Weapon or Spirit because one cheap item past 3,200 adds so much. In practice, almost every hero buys a green lane sustain item (Extra Regen or Healing Rite) and one shielding item early, which already puts you well on the way to 4,800 Vitality without trying.

Stop thinking "I am a gun hero, so I skip green". skip Skipping Vitality entirely is how gun carries get deleted before their items come online.

## Hybrid builds: why most heroes buy into all three

![Lady Geist hybrid build in the Deadlock build editor mixing weapon, spirit and vitality items](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0425.webp)

A deadlock hybrid build mixes all three categories on purpose. The video calls the post-November 2025 game a "hybrid meta" and the reasoning has not changed: the step from 3,200 to 4,800 is so efficient in every category that a hero who reaches 4,800 in all three (14,400 souls in total) usually beats a hero who put the same souls into one category.

The video's Lady Geist build shows how it looks in practice. Its early row is a mix of Weapon (Headshot Booster, Kinetic Dash), Spirit (Mystic Regeneration, Radiant Regeneration) and Vitality (Extra Regen, Sprint Boots, Enduring Speed). Every item does a real job for her (sustain for her health-trading kit, fire rate from Kinetic Dash), and the mix still crosses the 4,800 line in each category within the first 15,000 souls or so. The creator added Suppressor (1,600 Spirit: +6 spirit power, +8% bullet resist, and your spirit damage cuts enemy fire rate by 28% for 4.5 seconds on the current wiki) as the extra spirit item.

Heroes that already used all three stats, like Lady Geist, Wraith and Billy in the video, benefit the most. Heroes with a clear single damage source can still go mostly one way, but they should treat the other two categories as "get to 4,800 when convenient" rather than "never".

## How to make your own custom build

![Billy build saved in the Deadlock build editor with early, mid game, late and situational rows](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0495.webp)

setup Here is the build crafting method the video describes, written as questions you can answer for any hero, so you can make your own build instead of copying one:

1. **What does my hero's damage come from?** Gun, abilities or melee. That category gets your first 4,800.
2. **Which items in the other two categories help that plan?** On Billy, health and spirit damage for his slams; on Lady Geist, sustain plus fire rate. Choose items that do something for your kit, never filler bought only for the bar.
3. **Will these items get each category to 4,800 by mid game?** Count souls, not items: one tier 3 plus one tier 2, or three tier 2 items, is exactly 4,800.
4. **What does the enemy team force me to buy?** Answer this before luxury items. Defensive items count toward your Vitality and Spirit totals too, so a forced counter buy is rarely wasted.

Then use the in-game build editor to save the order. The video's screenshots show the creator's own builds split into Laning, Midgame, Late Game and Situational rows with notes on each, which is a good format to copy for a custom build. The Build Browser is where you find other players' builds, and the most popular builds there are a good sanity check: the video notes that the top builds for Pocket and other heroes already reach 4,800 in every category.

Which items to buy in which order is the part you will tune with experience. What should not change is the rule of thumb: pick for your hero first, then check the bars.

## Billy: vitality and spirit first, then weapon

![Billy testing slam damage in the Deadlock sandbox at 14,400 souls](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0545_QlTk766.webp)

The video's Billy build is a good example of a small change with a big effect. The creator removed Backstabber from the early build and added Bullet Resist Shredder (a 1,600 Spirit item), which puts Billy at 4,800 in both Vitality and Spirit right after lane, and the next two items finish the Weapon side.

Why it works on Billy: he wants health, his slams deal spirit damage, and his melee gets part of every weapon damage bonus. The current Bullet Resist Shredder is a good fit for any gun-and-ability hero: +9% bullet resist and +9% weapon damage, and your spirit damage lowers the target's bullet resist by 10% for 8 seconds, which your teammates benefit from too (the weapon damage line was added on May 22, 2026, so it is a better item now than in the video).

The video shows Billy at about 2,500 max health and big slam damage at 14,000 to 16,000 souls. Treat those as the creator's own sandbox results on the November 2025 patch, not current numbers.

## Gun heroes can still splash spirit: Ivy

![Ivy imbuing Surge of Power on Stone Form in the Deadlock item imbue menu](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0640_4Cbu1vW.webp)

The video's Ivy example is the gun-carry version of the same idea. Ivy was mostly built full gun before November 2025; the video's suggestion is to keep the same gun core and add one or two spirit items early for the spirit spike.

The specific items it uses are Quicksilver Reload (1,600: imbue an ability so using it reloads your gun and deals bonus spirit damage) and Surge of Power (3,200: imbue an ability with +28 spirit power, and casting it gives move speed and lets you shoot at full speed). The creator imbued Surge of Power on Stone Form because its cooldown lined up well with the item's buff.

Be careful with this one: Ivy's kit has changed since the video. The wiki now lists her abilities as Entangling Thorns, Kudzu Connection, Stone Form and Air Drop, so the video's Kudzu Bomb imbue target no longer exists, and its Stone Form damage and cooldown numbers may not match. The principle (imbue items are spirit items that make a gun build stronger) is the part to keep.

## Imbue items on gun builds: Wraith's Card Trick

![Wraith Card Trick tooltip imbued with Quicksilver Reload and Surge of Power at 11,200 souls](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0840.webp)

Wraith is the other gun hero the video splashes spirit on. Its "green Wraith" build buys Surge of Power and Quicksilver Reload very early, both imbued on Card Trick, and the frame shows Card Trick around 200 damage per card at about 11,000 souls.

Both imbue items live in the Spirit category, so two of them (4,800 souls together) put a gun Wraith at the 4,800 Spirit line while making her main ability hit harder. That is the cleanest form of the hybrid rule: you are not buying spirit for the bar, you are buying gun-supporting items that happen to be purple.

## When to delay spirit: Warden

![Warden gun build in the Deadlock build editor with spirit items delayed to midgame](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0720.webp)

grind Not every hero should rush all three. The video's exception is Warden: his abilities scale less well early (Alchemical Flask has modest spirit scaling, Willpower gets strong only after he levels it, and Binding Word is unreliable to land), so the build reaches 4,800 Weapon and then 4,800 Vitality first and buys spirit items later.

When the spirit items come, they are the ones that help the gun plan: Bullet Resist Shredder (shreds bullet resist when your abilities hit) and Superior Duration (3,200: +28% duration on your abilities and items, +8% bullet resist). Superior Duration makes Last Stand and Willpower last longer, and the video shows a large barrier from Willpower at 20,000 souls.

Rule for your own builds: if your hero's abilities only get good with a T3 upgrade or a lot of spirit power, delay Spirit to third and spend those souls where your damage is.

## Focus Lens: a build-defining spirit item

![Focus Lens tooltip in the Deadlock spirit shop on the November 2025 patch](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0880_raiekVl.webp)

The video calls Focus Lens the most broken item of its patch, especially on Infernus (with Superior Duration, Toxic Bullets and Napalm, then Flame Dash through the target) and Haze. It was nerfed several times right after the video, exactly as the creator predicted. Here is the item today compared with the tooltip in the video:

| Focus Lens stat | In the video (Nov 2025) | Current wiki (Oct 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cost / tier | 6,400, tier 4 | 6,400, tier 4, upgrades from Spirit Sap |
| Silence duration | 4.25s | 4.5s |
| Cooldown | 25s | 45s |
| Damage applied when the silence ends | 30% of damage dealt | 35% of damage dealt |
| Spirit resist reduction | -12% | -9% for 12s |
| Enemy spirit power reduction | -30 | -30 |
| Fire rate | +13% | +10% |

The combo logic still works: Superior Duration also extends item effects, so a 4.5-second silence becomes about 5.8 seconds (4.5 × 1.28), and every bit of burst you land during it is partly dealt again at the end. But with a 45-second cooldown it is one fight-winning pick per fight, not a free kill every time it comes up. The wiki now lists Infernus's abilities as Napalm, Flame Dash, Afterburn and Concussive Combustion, so the combo still exists in his kit.

## Cursed Relic (formerly Curse): the answer to tanky targets

![Curse tooltip, now called Cursed Relic, in the Deadlock tier 4 spirit shop](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1060_yHO7A2h.webp)

The video's other standout item is Curse, which it calls a button for deleting whoever annoys you: it interrupts, silences, disarms and stops item use, and since November 21, 2025 it also removes all non-ultimate buffs (so it strips Metal Skin, for example).

This is the section that has changed most, so read it carefully:

- The item was **renamed Cursed Relic** on January 30, 2026.
- The video says Curse gives 50% weapon damage. Even its own tooltip on screen shows **+15%**, and the January 30, 2026 patch removed the weapon damage entirely.
- Since July 28, 2026, Cursed Relic reduces **your own** damage output by 25% while the curse lasts (3.25 seconds, 55-second cooldown, 20m cast range). It is a lockdown item for your team now, not a damage item for gun heroes.

So it is still a strong answer to a fed carry or a buff-heavy tank, but the video's "buy it on gun heroes, it costs you nothing" reasoning no longer applies.

## Lane defense in a gun-heavy game: Weapon Shielding and Capacitor

![Weapon Shielding tooltip in the Deadlock vitality shop on the November 2025 patch](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1230.webp)

cheap The November 2025 patch buffed guns, and the video's advice was to buy Weapon Shielding as your first shielding item in lane because enemy gun damage will almost always trigger it. That is still sound, and the item is better now than in the video. The current wiki values: Weapon Shielding (1,600 Vitality) gives a 300-point barrier (growing with boons) when you take 250 weapon damage from heroes within 4 seconds, and the barrier also gives +18% bullet resist for its 8 seconds. Cooldown is 35 seconds, not the 45 the video's tooltip showed.

For gun heroes who used to rely on it (Wraith, Haze, Ivy in the video), Capacitor is still a strong late item. The video's slow duration is out of date though: the current Capacitor (6,400, upgrades from Tesla Bullets) fires a projectile for 100 damage that slows by 60% for **3 seconds** (not 5), stops stamina use and silences movement abilities, on a 40-second cooldown.

The video's other meta note, that Cultist Sacrifice now gives weapon damage instead of fire rate, is still true. It is now a 3,200-soul active item that consumes an enemy NPC for bonus souls and a long weapon damage and health buff, which suits heroes who do not farm through fast shooting. The video's farming advice (sinners as the best soul source) predates the September 29, 2026 Haunts rework, so use the [Deadlock farming guide](/guides/deadlock-farming-guide) for current farming routes.

## How this guide was fact-checked

- **Investment bonuses:** current table from the deadlock.wiki Items page; history from the wiki's patch pages for November 21, 2025, December 16, 2025, March 10 and 21, 2026, April 30, 2026, May 22, 2026 and June 30, 2026. The video's values (+49% / +45 / +34% at 4,800) match its November 2025 screens and are outdated.
- **Item stats** (Focus Lens, Cursed Relic, Weapon Shielding, Capacitor, Suppressor, Superior Duration, Improved Spirit, Rapid Recharge, Surge of Power, Quicksilver Reload, Bullet Resist Shredder, Headhunter, Hollow Point, Opening Rounds, Cultist Sacrifice): each item's wiki page and update history.
- **Corrections to the video:** spirit 4.8k step is +38, not +45; weapon is +46%, not +49%; vitality is +38%, not +34%; Curse is now Cursed Relic, never gave 50% weapon damage (it was 15%) and now gives none plus a -25% self damage penalty; Focus Lens cooldown is 45s, not 25s, and silence is 4.5s; Weapon Shielding threshold is 250 and cooldown 35s; Capacitor slow is 3s, not 5s; melee gets 50% of weapon damage bonuses, not all of it; Ivy's Kudzu Bomb no longer exists.
- **From the video only:** the hero builds (Grey Talon, Lady Geist, Billy, Ivy, Wraith, Warden, Infernus), the sandbox damage and health readouts, and the claim that popular Build Browser builds reach 4,800 in every category. These are the creator's November 2025 tests and are presented as examples, not current numbers.
- **Arithmetic:** the Grey Talon spirit power and the Focus Lens plus Superior Duration silence length are calculated from the wiki values, not measured in game.

## What this guide doesn't answer

- **Exact current builds for each hero:** this is a build theory page; see the hero guides (for example the [Deadlock tier list](/guides/deadlock-tier-list)) for current picks.
- **Every item's full stats:** only the items that explain a build principle are covered; the wiki has the rest.
- **Laning and farming:** the video's lane and jungle remarks are outdated after the 2026 map and Haunts changes; see the [laning guide](/guides/deadlock-laning-guide) and [farming guide](/guides/deadlock-farming-guide).
- **Enhanced and Corrupted item versions:** those belong to other modes and are not part of a standard match build.

## FAQ

### Should I build gun or spirit in Deadlock?

Build toward whatever your hero's damage comes from first, but don't make it all-or-nothing. Reaching 4,800 souls in a category gives a big investment bonus (+46% weapon damage or +38 spirit power right now), so most strong builds put their main category over 4,800 first and then get the other two there as well.

### What is the 4.8k spike in Deadlock?

It is the investment bonus you get when you have spent 4,800 souls on items in one category. On the current wiki it is +46% weapon damage for Weapon, +38 spirit power for Spirit and +38% bonus health for Vitality, a much bigger jump than any later step. Selling items removes their investment.

### How do I make my own build in Deadlock?

Decide where your hero's damage comes from (gun, abilities or melee) and put your first 4,800 souls there. Then choose items from the other two categories that actually help your kit, check they reach 4,800 by mid game, and leave room for counter items. Save it in the in-game build editor with Laning, Midgame, Late and Situational rows.

### Is a full tank or vitality build good in Deadlock?

A pure tank build is rare. Vitality investment adds a percentage of base health (+38% at 4,800 souls), but tanks still gain a lot from crossing 4,800 in Weapon or Spirit. Most heroes reach 4,800 Vitality naturally from sustain and shielding items like Extra Regen, Healing Rite and Weapon Shielding.

### Is Curse still good in Deadlock?

Curse was renamed Cursed Relic in January 2026 and changed a lot. It still interrupts, silences, disarms, blocks item use and removes non-ultimate buffs for 3.25 seconds on a 55 second cooldown, but it no longer gives weapon damage and since July 2026 it cuts your own damage by 25% while the curse lasts. It is a lockdown tool, not a gun item.
