## 🎯 The core idea

> Abrams is Deadlock's frontline brawler: a shotgun tank who wins fights by charging one enemy into a wall, landing a heavy melee during the stun and healing through the return fire. On the City Never Sleeps map, rush Shoulder Charge to tier 2, play the side lanes, build melee and bullet-shred items early, then add Warp Stone, Phantom Strike and Colossus to turn every catch into a kill.

## Who Abrams is after City Never Sleeps

![Abrams brawling at point-blank range in a City Never Sleeps teamfight next to the enemy shrine](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1250.webp)

Abrams is a hard-boiled detective turned close-range bruiser. The wiki lists him as a Tank and Brawler, and his numbers back that up: 800 base health with 1.5 health regen, 3 stamina and 6.4 m/s move speed. His gun, Case Closed, is a shotgun that fires 9 pellets of 3.6 damage each, holds 9 shells and reloads them one at a time (a full reload takes 3.5 s). Damage falloff starts at 17 m and ends at 40 m, so anything past mid range is wasted ammo. His light melee does 50 damage and his heavy melee 116 before scaling, and that heavy melee is the real weapon in this build.

This deadlock abrams guide is built on Rumple's video "The Best Abrams Build On the New Patch", uploaded October 9, 2026, after the September 29 City Never Sleeps map rework. The original source for this topic, SwoleBenji's April 2026 pure-tank video, predates the June 30 global ultimate change, the September 16 balance patch and the new map, so it is only used here for ability fundamentals. Abrams has had no changes since September 16, 2026, according to his wiki update history, so every ability number below is current.

The short version of how to play abrams in deadlock: Shoulder Charge is your engage, Siphon Life and Infernal Resilience keep you alive, Seismic Impact turns a fight, and your items exist to make the charge-plus-heavy-melee combo kill.

## Siphon Life: sustain and wave clear

![Abrams with Siphon Life active in an early side lane, green drain effect around him](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0600_pPtS9ey.webp)

Abrams Siphon Life drains every enemy within 8 m for 4 s, dealing 22 spirit damage per second (plus 0.6 per point of spirit power) and healing you for 70% of the damage it deals to heroes and 35% of what it deals to troopers and Haunts. Base cooldown is 42 s. The upgrades are tier 1 -20 s cooldown, tier 2 +2 s duration, and tier 3 +2 m radius plus 18 extra damage per second with better spirit scaling.

free The detail most new players miss: Siphon Life is not a channel. The wiki confirms you keep full control while it runs, so you can move, dash, jump, shoot, melee and cast Shoulder Charge during it, and getting stunned does not end it. Cast it, then walk into the enemy and stay glued to them. In lane it is also your wave-clear button, and the heal on troopers is what lets you skip early sustain items.

Siphon Life heals are reduced by anti-heal effects, so expect enemies to buy them against you later. SwoleBenji's older video makes a fair point about that: as the tank, you would rather they spend their anti-heal on you than on your carry.

## Shoulder Charge: the ability you build around

![Abrams Shoulder Charge tooltip in Deadlock showing 1.1s wall stun, 32% slow and the three tier upgrades](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0212_MzTQAOV.webp)

Abrams Shoulder Charge sends you forward for 1.4 s (about 17.5 m at base duration), pulling any enemy you hit along with you. Hit a hero and you speed up for the rest of the charge; push them into a wall and they are stunned. Base numbers from the wiki: 30 damage (x1.4 spirit scaling), 0.3 s wall stun, 33 s cooldown.

| Tier | Upgrade | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | +32% slow for 3 s | Keeps a target in range after a missed wall |
| 2 | +0.8 s wall stun (1.1 s total) | Long enough to land a heavy melee before they can parry |
| 3 | -18 s cooldown, +1.5 weapon damage per pellet for 6 s on hero hit | Charge every 15 s; the bonus adds 13.5 per shotgun blast but no melee damage |

The in-game tooltip in the video shows exactly these values, including the 1.1 s total stun at tier 2. That tier 2 breakpoint is the reason the build rushes this ability: the base 0.3 s stun is too short to follow with a heavy melee before the target parries, and a parried heavy melee stuns you for 2.75 s and makes you take 25% more damage, per the wiki's Melee Attack page.

Two more interactions worth knowing. Ability Duration items lengthen the charge (more range), the wall stun and the tier 1 slow, while Ability Range does nothing for it. And the pull itself is not a stun: a target dragged along can still use items, so only the wall impact locks them down.

## Infernal Resilience: the passive that makes you a tank

![Abrams Infernal Resilience tooltip showing 13% damage regenerated over 20 seconds and its upgrades](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0150_wBJyWwJ.webp)

Infernal Resilience regenerates 13% of the damage you take over the next 20 s. It is based on health actually lost, so it rewards you for absorbing a burst and walking away rather than for sitting at full health. Its upgrades are the reason Abrams scales into a real tank:

- Tier 1: +200 max health.
- Tier 2: +18% melee lifesteal, which stacks nicely with a heavy-melee build.
- Tier 3: +20% debuff resist and +9% damage regenerated (raised from 8% on September 16, 2026).

Like Siphon Life, the regeneration counts as healing, so anti-heal cuts it. The video's creator places the first Infernal Resilience point (the +200 health) right after maxing Shoulder Charge, which lines up with the moment you start taking real fights.

## Seismic Impact: the ultimate and its new cooldown

![Abrams landing Seismic Impact on an enemy with the Unstoppable bar active](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1176.webp)

Seismic Impact launches Abrams high into the air, then slams him down for 100 spirit damage (x2.33 scaling) and a 1.6 s stun in a 9 m radius that reaches enemies up to 6 m above the ground. A fully charged jump covers roughly 55 m, which makes it as much a gap-closer and escape as a teamfight opener. If you collide with a flying enemy on the way down, you drag them to the ground with you, and you can use items during the leap.

The numbers changed more than any other part of the kit this year. Base cooldown is now 215 s: the June 30, 2026 global ultimate change raised it from 185 s and cut tier 1 from -35 s to -30 s. The September 16 patch then trimmed tier 3's Unstoppable from 6 s to 5 s. Current upgrades:

| Tier | Upgrade |
| --- | --- |
| 1 | -30 s cooldown |
| 2 | +0.8 s stun duration |
| 3 | Unstoppable for 5 s on cast, +6 m impact radius |

setup With a 185 s cooldown even after tier 1, the ultimate is a once-per-fight tool, so do not waste it on a single low-health target you could finish with a charge. Older guides that treat it as a frequent pick-off tool were written for shorter cooldowns. Use it to start a fight your team can follow, to stop an enemy push on a Walker, or to land on top of a mid-boss contest.

## Abrams skill order and ability upgrades

![Rumple's Abrams build 697756 in the Deadlock build browser with its ability point order chart](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0022.webp)

The abrams skill order in Rumple's build (in-game build ID 697756, version 45, updated October 4, 2026) focuses on Shoulder Charge and the ultimate and spends almost nothing on Siphon Life until late:

| Order | Ability point spend |
| --- | --- |
| 1-4 | Unlock all four abilities |
| 5-7 | Shoulder Charge tier 1, 2, 3 |
| 8 | Infernal Resilience tier 1 (+200 health) |
| 9-11 | Seismic Impact tier 1, 2, 3 |
| 12-13 | Infernal Resilience tier 2, 3 |
| 14-16 | Siphon Life tier 1, 2, 3 |

That order is read from the build's ability-point chart shown in the video. The logic behind these abrams ability upgrades: Shoulder Charge tier 2 is your laning power spike, tier 3 halves its cooldown for the mid game, and maxing the ultimate early lowers its long cooldown before the first big mid-boss fights. The trade-off is weaker wave clear, which the early items cover.

SwoleBenji's older pure-tank build instead takes Siphon Life first for wave clear and builds spirit items around it. It still works as a style, but that video predates the June and September nerfs to Siphon Life's tier 3 radius and to the ultimate, so treat its numbers as outdated.

## Abrams laning on the new map

![Sandbox test of Abrams Shoulder Charge stunning an Infernus bot against a wall](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0080.webp)

skip Do not play Abrams in the mid lane. Rumple's reasoning is that the reworked mid lane is too open: there are few walls near the trooper waves, so every Shoulder Charge is telegraphed and rarely ends in a stun. Side lanes, with buildings and corners close to the wave, are where the charge actually lands.

The laning plan in the video is simple and honest about Abrams' weak early game:

- Play passive until Shoulder Charge tier 2. Clear the wave, share it with your lane partner, break boxes. The frame above is the video's sandbox demo: at tier 1 the stun is too short to follow up, at tier 2 a heavy melee lands every time.
- Before tier 2, the only good charge is one that drags an enemy under your Guardian, where the tower finishes the job.
- After tier 2 and your first items, look for charge into wall, heavy melee, shotgun at point-blank range.

cheap Bait parries. Experienced players will hold their parry for your heavy melee, so throw a light melee or a shotgun blast first and only commit the heavy once the parry is used or the target is stunned. The wiki notes that an unsuccessful parry has a cooldown, which is your window. These are the most useful abrams tips in lane, and they apply in every phase.

## Best Abrams build in Deadlock: items by phase

![Full Abrams item build in the Deadlock shop: early game, pick-one, core, late and counter rows](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0395.webp)

This is Rumple's build as shown in the video, with costs and effects checked against the current wiki. It is a melee-and-shred build: cheap sustain first, then bullet shred so your heavy melees and shotgun hit harder, then catch tools. These abrams items cover about 25,000 souls of core; past that, it is reading the enemy team.

| Phase | Items (cost) | What they do for Abrams |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Lane | Restorative Shot (800), Melee Lifesteal (800), Close Quarters (800) | Heal off troopers and heroes, +12% melee damage with a 100 HP melee heal, +20% weapon damage within 15 m |
| Lane, first spike | Melee Charge (1,600), Stalker (1,600), Bullet Resist Shredder (1,600) | Longer, harder heavy melee; a wound that shreds 6% bullet resist; another 10% bullet shred whenever you deal spirit damage |
| Pick one | Enchanter's Emblem, Battle Vest or Debuff Reducer (1,600 each) | Spirit resist, bullet resist or 25% debuff resist depending on the enemy team |
| Mid game core | Warp Stone (3,200), Hunter's Aura (3,200) | 11 m teleport for surprise charges; -10% bullet resist and -15% fire rate on nearby enemies |
| Pick one | Superior Duration or Spirit Snatch (3,200 each) | Longer stuns and ultimate, or extra spirit damage and stolen spirit resist on melee |
| Late core | Phantom Strike, Spirit Resilience, Plated Armor, Crushing Fists, Colossus | Mostly in that order, swapping defensive pieces for damage when the enemy allows |

The video's "16% bullet shred" figure checks out: Stalker's wound applies -6% bullet resist and Bullet Resist Shredder applies -10%, and Shoulder Charge and Siphon Life both deal the spirit damage that triggers the Shredder. The build sells Restorative Shot first and Close Quarters second when slots run out.

For the pick-one slot, the video's rule is: Enchanter's Emblem into heavy spirit damage, Battle Vest into heavy gun damage, Debuff Reducer into damage-over-time and slows. Superior Duration (+28% ability duration) is the pick if the enemy buys debuff resist, because otherwise your 1.1 s stun shrinks enough for them to parry the follow-up. Spirit Snatch is the pick into heavy spirit damage or when you just want more melee damage.

## Abrams late game build: Phantom Strike and Colossus

![Colossus tooltip in the Abrams late game build row of the Deadlock shop](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0318.webp)

grind Phantom Strike (6,400) is the first late item every game in this build. It teleports you onto a target up to 25 m away, pulls them to the ground, deals impact damage, disarms them and slows them by 40% for 3 s, on a 35 s cooldown. On Abrams that means a guaranteed charge-plus-heavy-melee on a flying hero or a gun carry hiding behind their team. It also gives +15% weapon damage and +8 spirit power.

After that the abrams late game build depends on the lobby:

- Spirit Resilience (3,200): +30% spirit resist, +15% more below half health. Most games you buy it, because the rest of the build already stacks bullet resist. Skip it if the enemy deals little spirit damage.
- Plated Armor (6,400): a 30% chance to deflect bullets outright. Rumple recommends it into gun-heavy heroes such as Vindicta, Infernus and Wraith.
- Crushing Fists (6,400): built from Melee Charge, so it costs no extra slot. Melee hits stack a bullet resist debuff and stun the target at max stacks.
- Colossus (6,400): +25% base health passively; the active (37 s cooldown, 7 s duration) adds 35% bullet and spirit resist and 30% melee damage, and slows nearby enemies by 24%.

The video's take: rush Colossus if you want damage and need to be tanky at the same time, Crushing Fists if you only need damage.

## Abrams counter items for heavy spirit or gun lobbies

![Silencer tooltip in the Abrams against-heavy-spirit counter item row](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0365.webp)

The build includes two optional rows for lobbies that hit you with one damage type. Against spirit damage:

| Item | When to buy it |
| --- | --- |
| Spellbreaker | Against big spirit bursts (the video names Grey Talon and Paradox): your next large spirit hit is reduced by 65% |
| Witchmail | Against constant heavy spirit damage: big hits shave 4 s off a random ability cooldown |
| Scourge | Against enemy tanks such as Mo & Krill and Rat King: spirit and debuff resist plus an aura that damages by max health |
| Ethereal Shift | Against heavy crowd control or burst: 4 s of invulnerability to stall for your team |
| Silencer | Niche: hits reduce the target's outgoing spirit damage by 25%, and melee counts as a shot |

Against gun damage, the row is Return Fire, Metal Skin, Bullet Resilience, Berserker and Juggernaut. Juggernaut is the team pick: everyone who shoots you has their fire rate cut by 40% for 4 s, which matters most when you are the one standing in front. Berserker gives bullet resist and stacks weapon damage as you take damage. Dispel Magic sits in the situational row for lobbies with lots of silences or slow hexes.

## Haunts and jungle tricks on the new map

![Abrams fighting a melee Haunt camp indoors on the City Never Sleeps map](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0462.webp)

City Never Sleeps renamed the neutral camps to Haunts, and the new Haunts move around and approach melee range. Rumple found two ways Abrams exploits that:

- Shoulder Charge displaces Haunts. You can drag a camp away from where it spawned, which lets you steal an enemy side-lane camp early without walking deep into their territory.
- Some Haunts attack in melee, and the wiki confirms those attacks can be parried. Bunch them up, parry, then heavy melee while they are stunned and taking extra damage.

The video also shows one camp that stops attacking when charged off a ledge. That is a bug, the creator himself expects it to be patched, so do not build your farming around it.

## Teamfights, mid-boss and the Soul Urn

![Abrams fighting at the Mid-Boss with Colossus active in a ranked Deadlock match](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_1215.webp)

Your job in a fight is to start it on your terms and absorb what comes back. Hover a side lane near your teammates, wait for an enemy to show, then Warp Stone forward into a Shoulder Charge so they never see the charge coming. The video's gameplay shows the full combo again and again: Warp Stone, charge into a wall, heavy melee, shotgun, and Phantom Strike for anyone who escapes.

setup Around objectives, save Seismic Impact for the moment the enemy commits to the mid-boss or a Walker. A 1.6 s area stun (2.4 s at tier 2) is the strongest thing you bring to a contest, and tier 3 makes you Unstoppable for 5 s so you cannot be interrupted on the way in.

Abrams is also a strong Soul Urn hunter under the current urn rules: the wiki states that any melee attack or any stun forces the courier to drop the urn. A single Shoulder Charge into a wall or a heavy melee ends an enemy urn run.

## Abrams counter tips: how enemies beat him

![Abrams using Shoulder Charge to chase an enemy through a Deadlock street at 9 minutes](https://api.guides-factory.com/media/uploads/2026/10/final_0905.webp)

If you are looking for the abrams counter plan, or want to know what will shut you down as Abrams, these are the kit's real weak points:

- Distance. Case Closed falls off from 17 m and is useless at 40 m. Flying and long-range heroes force Abrams to burn Shoulder Charge or Phantom Strike just to reach them.
- Walls. The charge only stuns against a wall. Fighting him in open ground, such as the new mid lane, removes most of his threat.
- Parry. Hold parry for his heavy melee. A successful parry stuns him for 2.75 s and makes him take 25% more damage.
- Anti-heal. Siphon Life and Infernal Resilience both count as healing, so items like Healbane (-35% incoming healing on your spirit damage) blunt his sustain.
- Debuff resist. Debuff Reducer and similar items shorten his Shoulder Charge stun, and Unstoppable ignores it.

On where he stands: this guide does not give a deadlock abrams tier rating, because no tier list was checked for the current patch. What can be said is that his kit has been stable since September 16, 2026, and Rumple reports a long win streak in high-rank lobbies with this exact abrams build city never sleeps players can copy by ID.

## How this guide was fact-checked

Every ability number (damage, scaling, radius, duration, cooldowns and all tier upgrades), Abrams' base stats and weapon stats come from the Abrams page on deadlock.wiki and its update history, read on October 19, 2026. The wiki has no separate Abrams/Abilities page; the main hero page carries the ability data. Item costs and effects come from each item's wiki page, using the default values. Parry numbers come from the wiki's Melee Attack page, Haunt parry behaviour from the Haunt page, and urn drop rules from the Soul Urn page.

The item build, sell order, pick-one choices, skill order (read from the build's ability-point chart on screen), mid-lane advice and Haunt tricks come from Rumple's October 9, 2026 video, confirmed against the frames shown. Corrections and clarifications:

- The original source video (SwoleBenji, April 14, 2026) predates the June 30 ultimate change: Seismic Impact's cooldown is now 215 s, not 185 s, and its tier 1 is -30 s, not -35 s.
- Seismic Impact tier 3 gives 5 s of Unstoppable since September 16, not the 6 s it gave when that video was made; Siphon Life tier 3 adds +2 m radius, not +3 m.
- The video's "16% bullet shred" is confirmed by the wiki: 6% from Stalker plus 10% from Bullet Resist Shredder.
- The video says Silencer works on melee; the wiki describes it as working on bullets but notes that melee attacks count as one shot, so the claim holds.
- The ledge Haunt trick is a bug the creator expects to be fixed, so it is mentioned but not recommended.

## What this guide doesn't answer

- A tier ranking for Abrams: no current tier list was checked, so this guide does not place him in one.
- A full pure-spirit or pure-gun Abrams build: this guide follows one melee-and-shred build; the older Siphon Life spirit build is only mentioned because its numbers are outdated.
- Specific matchup tables for every hero: the counter-item rows cover the common cases, but per-hero matchups change too often to keep accurate.
- Heroes released after Rumple's video, such as Violet and Deadman Danny: the build was not tested against them.
- Map routes and Haunt camp locations on the City Never Sleeps map: those belong in a map guide, not a hero guide.

## FAQ

### What is the best Abrams build in Deadlock right now?

For the City Never Sleeps patch, a melee-and-shred build works best: Restorative Shot, Melee Lifesteal and Close Quarters in lane, then Melee Charge, Stalker and Bullet Resist Shredder, then Warp Stone and Hunter's Aura. Late game, buy Phantom Strike first, then Spirit Resilience, Plated Armor, Crushing Fists or Colossus depending on the enemy team. Rumple's in-game build ID is 697756.

### What is the Abrams skill order in Deadlock?

Unlock all four abilities, then max Shoulder Charge (tiers 1, 2 and 3), take Infernal Resilience tier 1 for +200 max health, max Seismic Impact, finish Infernal Resilience, and put Siphon Life's upgrades last. Shoulder Charge tier 2 matters most because it raises the wall stun to 1.1 s, long enough to land a heavy melee before the target can parry.

### What is the cooldown of Abrams' ultimate Seismic Impact?

Seismic Impact has a 215 s base cooldown since the June 30, 2026 global ultimate change (it was 185 s), and tier 1 cuts it by 30 s to 185 s. It deals 100 spirit damage and stuns for 1.6 s in a 9 m radius, tier 2 adds 0.8 s of stun, and tier 3 makes you Unstoppable for 5 s on cast and adds 6 m of radius.

### Should you play Abrams in the mid lane on the new Deadlock map?

No. On the City Never Sleeps map the mid lane is too open: there are few walls near the waves, so Shoulder Charge rarely ends in a wall stun and every charge is easy to see coming. Play a side lane, stay passive until Shoulder Charge tier 2, and use corners and buildings to land charge-into-wall stuns.

### How do you counter Abrams in Deadlock?

Keep your distance, because his shotgun falls off from 17 m. Fight him away from walls so Shoulder Charge cannot stun, hold your parry for his heavy melee (a successful parry stuns him for 2.75 s and makes him take 25% more damage), and buy anti-heal like Healbane against Siphon Life and Infernal Resilience. Debuff resist shortens his stuns and Unstoppable ignores them.
